Abstract
In the last decade, magnesium complexes have emerged as a viable alternative to transition-metal catalysts for the hydrofunctionalization of unsaturated bonds. However, their potential for advanced catalytic reactions has not been thoroughly investigated. To address this gap, we have developed a novel magnesium amide compound (3) using a PNP framework that is both bulky and flexible. Our research demonstrates that compound 3 can effectively catalyze the synthesis of biologically significant oxazolidinone derivatives. This synthesis involves a tandem reaction of hydroalkoxylation and cyclohydroamination of isocyanate using propargyl alcohol. Furthermore, we conducted comprehensive theoretical calculations to gain insights into the reaction mechanism. It is important to note that these types of transformations have not been reported for magnesium and would significantly enhance the catalytic portfolio of the 7th most abundant element.

Abstract
Utilization of main-group metals as alternatives to transition metals in homogeneous catalysis has become a hot research area in recent years. However, their application in catalytic hydrogenation is less common due to the difficulty in heterolytic cleavage of the H-H bond. Employing aromatization/de-aromatization metal-ligand cooperation (MLC) highly enhances the H2 activation process, offering an efficient approach for the hydrogenation of unsaturated molecules catalyzed by main-group metals. Herein, we report a series of new magnesium pincer complexes prepared using PNNH-type pincer ligands. The complexes were characterized by NMR and X-ray single-crystal diffraction. Reversible activation of H2 and N-H bonds by MLC employing these pincer complexes was developed. Using the new magnesium complexes, homogeneously catalyzed hydrogenation of aldimines and ketimines was achieved, affording secondary amines in excellent yields. Control experiments and DFT studies reveal that a pathway involving MLC is favorable for the hydrogenation reactions. Moreover, the efficient catalysis was extended to the selective hydrogenation of quinolines and other N-heteroarenes, presenting the first example of hydrogenation of N-heteroarenes homogeneously catalyzed by early main-group metal complexes. This study provides a new strategy for hydrogenation of C═N bonds catalyzed by magnesium compounds and enriches the research of main-group metal catalysis.

Abstract
The development of catalysts for environmentally benign organic transformations is a very active area of research. Most of the catalysts reported so far are based on transition-metal complexes. In recent years, examples of catalysis by main-group metal compounds have been reported. Herein, we report a series of magnesium pincer complexes, which were characterized by NMR and X-ray single-crystal diffraction. Reversible activation of H2 via aromatization/dearomatization metal-ligand cooperation was studied. Utilizing the obtained complexes, the unprecedented homogeneous main-group metal catalyzed semihydrogenation of alkynes and hydrogenation of alkenes were demonstrated under base-free conditions, affording Z-alkenes and alkanes as products, respectively, with excellent yields and selectivities. Control experiments and DFT studies reveal the involvement of metal-ligand cooperation in the hydrogenation reactions. This study not only provides a new approach for the semihydrogenation of alkynes and hydrogenation of alkenes catalyzed by magnesium but also offers opportunities for the hydrogenation of other compounds catalyzed by main-group metal complexes.

Abstract
The addition of a B-H bond to an unsaturated bond (polarized or unpolarized) is a powerful and atom-economic tool for the synthesis of organoboranes. In recent years, s-block organometallics have appeared as alternative catalysts to transition-metal complexes, which traditionally catalyze the hydroboration of unsaturated bonds. Because of the recent and rapid development in the field of hydroboration of unsaturated bonds catalyzed by alkali (Li, Na, K) and alkaline earth (Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba) metals, we provide a detailed and updated comprehensive review that covers the synthesis, reactivity, and application of s-block metal catalysts in the hydroboration of polarized as well as unsaturated carbon-carbon bonds. Moreover, we describe the main reaction mechanisms, providing valuable insight into the reactivity of the s-block metal catalysts. Finally, we compare these s-block metal complexes with other redox-neutral catalytic systems based on p-block metals including aluminum complexes and f-block metal complexes of lanthanides and early actinides. In this review, we aim to provide a comprehensive, authoritative, and critical assessment of the state of the art within this highly interesting research area.

Abstract
A magnesium precatalyst for the highly enantioselective hydro-boration of C[double bond, length as m-dash]O bonds is reported. The mechanistic basis of the unprecedented selectivity of this transformation has been investi-gated experimentally by isolation of catalytic intermediates and theoretically by DFT calculations. The facile formation of a magnesium borohydride species is critical in overcoming competing pathways in the selectivity-determining insertion step.

Abstract
Reactions of a magnesium diboranate as a source of [Bpin]– anions are initiated by ‘outer sphere’ attack of C

N bonded substrates.
Reactions of the β-diketiminato magnesium diboranate derivative, [(BDI)Mg{pinB(n-Bu)Bpin}] (BDI = HC{(Me)CNDipp}2; Dipp = 2,6-i-Pr2C6H3), with N,N′-dialkyl and N,N′-diaryl carbodiimides provided the corresponding C-borylated magnesium borylamidinates. This reactivity occurs with the displacement of n-BuBpin and with the apparent addition of a nucleophilic {Bpin} anion to the electrophilic unsaturated carbodiimide carbon centres. In contrast, while analogous reactions of [(BDI)Mg{pinB(n-Bu)Bpin}] with N-alkyl or N-aryl aldimines and ketimines also resulted in facile displacement of n-BuBpin, they provided the organomagnesium products of {Bpin} addition to the imine nitrogen atom rather than the more electrophilic trigonal imine carbon. Computational assessment by density functional theory (DFT) indicated that, although the energetic differences are marginal, the organomagnesium products may be considered as the kinetic outcome of these reactions with respect to the generation of alternative amidomagnesium regioisomers. This latter deduction was borne out by the thermally-induced conversion of two such organomagnesium species to their C-borylated amidomagnesium isomers, both of which occur with negligible entropies of activation indicative of purely intramolecular processes. Detailed analysis by DFT of the reaction of [(BDI)Mg{pinB(n-Bu)Bpin}] with PhN
Created by potrace 1.16, written by Peter Selinger 2001-2019
]]>
CHPh indicated that B–N bond formation is initiated by attack of the imine nitrogen at the three-coordinate boron atom of the diboranate anion rather than the more crowded magnesium centre. Consistent with an effectively spontaneous reaction, the resultant cleavage of the B–B bond of the diboranate unit is accomplished via the traversal of two very modest barriers of only 8.3 and 6.7 kcal mol–1. This analysis was also supportive of a subsequent intramolecular B–N to B–C isomerisation process. Of greater general significance, however, the addition of the {Bpin}– anion to the reducible aldimine is best rationalised as a consequence of the electrophilic character of this three-coordinate boron centre rather than any intrinsic nucleophilicity associated with the B–B bond of the [pinBB(n-Bu)pin]– anion.

Abstract
The reactivity of the magnesium alkyl {[HC(C(Me)N-2,6-iPr2C6H3)2]Mg(nBu)}2 (1) toward various small molecules provides access to a variety of magnesium derivatives. For example, the insertion of elemental chalcogens (S8 and Se8) into the Mg-C bond of complex 1 gives the dimeric magnesium thiolate {[HC(C(Me)N-2,6-iPr2C6H3)2]Mg(μ-SnBu)}2 (2), magnesium selenolate [HC(C(Me)N-2,6-iPr2C6H3)2]Mg(SenBu)(THF) (3), and magnesium diselenolate [HC(C(Me)N-2,6-iPr2C6H3)2]Mg(Se2nBu)(THF) (4). Meanwhile, compound 4 can be readily obtained by further insertion of one selenium atom into complex 3. Moreover, the reactions of complex 1 with diphenyl dichalcogenides (PhSSPh and PhSeSePh) by σ bond metathesis afford the corresponding magnesium phenyl chalcogenolates [HC(C(Me)N-2,6-iPr2C6H3)2]Mg(EPh)(THF) (E = S 5, Se 6) concomitant with PhEnBu release. Furthermore, the treatment of complex 1 with benzonitrile and phenyl isothiocyanate produces the serendipitous magnesium-1-azaallyl complex [HC(C(Me)N-2,6-iPr2C6H3)2]Mg(N(H)C(Ph)[double bond, length as m-dash]CHC3H7)(DME) (7) and the diimino-thioamidato magnesium compound {κ3-N,N',N''-(ArNCMe)2[N(Ph)CS]CH}Mg[(Ph)NC(nBu)S] (8) (Ar = 2,6-iPr2C6H3). In addition, deprotonation occurs between compound 1 and 1-methylimidazole to generate the imidazolyl complex {[HC(C(Me)N-2,6-iPr2C6H3)2]Mg(μ-Im)}2 (9) (Im = 2-N-methylimidazolyl). These results indicated that the butylmagnesium complex 1 possesses high activity toward small molecules and revealed several unusual transformations. All the new compounds were characterized by various spectroscopic methods, and their solid-state structures were further confirmed by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analyses.

Abstract
The organocobalt scorpionate compounds ToMCoR (ToM = tris(4,4-dimethyl-2-oxazolinyl)phenylborate; R = Bn, 1; CH2SiMe3, 2; Ph, 3; Et, 4; nBu, 5; Me, 6) react in carbonylation, oxidation, and carboxylation reactions via pathways that are distinctly influenced by the nature of the organometallic moiety. The compounds are prepared by reaction of ToMCoCl with the corresponding organolithium or organopotassium reagents. Compounds 1-6 were characterized by 8-line hyperfine coupling to cobalt in EPR spectra and solution phase magnetic measurements (μeff = 4-5μB) as containing a high-spin cobalt(ii) center. The UV-Vis spectra revealed an intense diagnostic band at ca. 700 nm (ε > 1000 M-1 cm-1) associated with the tetrahedral organocobalt(ii) center that was assigned to a d ← d transition on the basis of configuration interaction (CI) calculations. Complexes 1-6 react rapidly with CO to form equilibrating mixtures of the low spin organocobalt carbonyl ToMCo(R)CO, acyl ToMCoC([double bond, length as m-dash]O)R, and acyl carbonyl ToMCo{C([double bond, length as m-dash]O)R}CO. The 1H and 11B NMR spectra contained only one set of signals for the CO-treated solutions, whereas the solution-phase IR spectra contained up to two νCO and three νC([double bond, length as m-dash]O)R signals with intensities varying depending on the R group (R = Bn, 7; CH2SiMe3, 8; Ph, 9; Et, 10; nBu, 11; Me, 12). Single crystal X-ray diffraction of ToMCo{C([double bond, length as m-dash]O)Et}CO (10) supports its assignment as a square pyramidal cobalt(ii) acyl carbonyl complex. Upon evaporation of volatiles, solutions of 8-12 revert to the CO-free organocobalt starting materials 2-6, whereas attempts to isolate benzyl-derived 7 provide an unusual α-alkoxyketone species, characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Despite the differences observed in the carbonylation of 1-6 as a result of varying the R group, compounds 7-12 all react rapidly with O2 through an oxygenation pathway to afford the corresponding carboxylate compounds ToMCoO2CR (R = Bn, 13; CH2SiMe3, 14; Ph, 15; Et, 16; nBu, 17; Me, 18). In contrast, the insertion of CO2 into the Co-C bond in 1-6 requires several days to weeks.

Abstract
To advance the catalytic applications of s-block mixed-metal complexes, sodium magnesiate [NaMg(CH2 SiMe3 )3 ] (1) is reported as an efficient precatalyst for the guanylation of a variety of anilines and secondary amines with carbodiimides. First examples of hydrophosphination of carbodiimides by using a Mg catalyst are also described. The catalytic ability of the mixed-metal system is much greater than that of its homometallic components [NaCH2 SiMe3 ] and [Mg(CH2 SiMe3 )2 ]. Stoichiometric studies suggest that magnesiate amido and guanidinate complexes are intermediates in these catalytic routes. Reactivity and kinetic studies imply that these guanylation reactions occur via (tris)amide intermediates that react with carbodiiimides in insertion steps. The rate law for the guanylation of N,N'-diisopropylcarbodiimide with 4-tert-butylaniline catalyzed by 1 is first order with respect to [amine], [carbodiimide], and [catalyst], and the reaction shows a large kinetic isotopic effect, which is consistent with an amine-assisted rate-determining carbodiimide insertion transition state. Studies to assess the effect of sodium in these transformations denote a secondary role with little involvement in the catalytic cycle.

Abstract
The large alkaline earths (Ae), calcium, strontium and barium, have in the past 15 years yielded a brand new generation of heteroleptic molecular catalysts for the production of fine chemicals. However, the integrity of these complexes is often plagued by ligand redistribution equilibria in solution. This personal account retraces the paths followed in our research group towards the design of stable heteroleptic alkalino-earth complexes, including the use of intramolecular noncovalent Ae···H-Si and Ae···F-C interactions. Their implementation as homogenous precatalysts for reactions such as the intramolecular and intermolecular hydroamination and hydrophosphination of activated alkenes, the hydrophosphonylation of ketones, and the dehydrogenative coupling of amines and hydrosilanes that enable the efficient and controlled formations of CP, CN, or SiN σ-bonds, is presented in a synthetic perspective that highlights their overall outstanding catalytic performance.

Abstract
A series of new malonamide derivatives were synthesized by Michael addition reaction of N(1),N(3)-di(pyridin-2-yl)malonamide into α,β-unsaturated ketones mediated by DBU in DCM at ambient temperature. The inhibitory potential of these compounds in vitro, against α-glucosidase enzyme was evaluated. Result showed that most of malonamide derivatives were identified as a potent inhibitors of α-glucosidase enzyme. Among all the compounds, 4K (IC50=11.7 ± 0.5 μM) was found out as the most active one compared to standard drug acarbose (IC50=840 ± 1.73 μM). Further cytotoxicity of 4a-4m were also evaluated against a number of cancer and normal cell lines and interesting results were obtained.

Abstract
The past decade has witnessed some remarkable advances in our appreciation of the structural and reaction chemistry of the heavier alkaline earth (Ae = Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba) elements. Derived from complexes of these metals in their immutable +2 oxidation state, a broad and widely applicable catalytic chemistry has also emerged, driven by considerations of cost and inherent low toxicity. The considerable adjustments incurred to ionic radius and resultant cation charge density also provide reactivity with significant mechanistic and kinetic variability as group 2 is descended. In an attempt to place these advances in the broader context of contemporary main group element chemistry, this review focusses on the developing state of the art in both multiple bond heterofunctionalisation and cross coupling catalysis. We review specific advances in alkene and alkyne hydroamination and hydrophosphination catalysis and related extensions of this reactivity that allow the synthesis of a wide variety of acyclic and heterocyclic small molecules. The use of heavier alkaline earth hydride derivatives as pre-catalysts and intermediates in multiple bond hydrogenation, hydrosilylation and hydroboration is also described along with the emergence of these and related reagents in a variety of dehydrocoupling processes that allow that facile catalytic construction of Si-C, Si-N and B-N bonds.

Abstract
ToMMgHB(C6F5)3 (1, ToM = tris(4,4-dimethyl-2-oxazolinyl)phenylborate) catalyzes the 1,4-hydrosilylation of α,β-unsaturated esters. This magnesium hydridoborate compound is synthesized by the reaction of ToMMgMe, PhSiH3, and B(C6F5)3. Unlike the transient ToMMgH formed from the reaction of ToMMgMe and PhSiH3, the borate adduct 1 persists in solution and in the solid state. Crystallographic characterization reveals tripodal coordination of the HB(C6F5)3 moiety to the six-coordinate magnesium center with a ∠Mg-H-B of 141(3)°. The pathway for formation of 1 is proposed to involve the reaction of ToMMgMe and a PhSiH3/B(C6F5)3 adduct because the other possible intermediates, ToMMgH and ToMMgMeB(C6F5)3, react to give an intractable black solid and ToMMgC6F5, respectively. Under catalytic conditions, silyl ketene acetals are isolated in high yield from the addition of hydrosilanes to α,β-unsaturated esters with 1 as the catalyst.

Abstract
A comprehensive computational examination of alternatively plausible mechanistic pathways for the intramolecular hydroamination (HA) of aminoalkenes utilising a recently reported novel phenylene-diamine aluminium amido compound is presented. On the one hand, a proton-assisted concerted N-C/C-H bond-forming pathway to afford the cycloamine in a single step can be invoked, and, on the other, a stepwise σ-insertive pathway that involves a relatively fast, reversible migratory olefin 1,2-insertion step linked to a less rapid, irreversible Al-C alkyl bond protonolysis. The present study, which employs a sophisticated and reliable computational methodology, supports the prevailing mechanism to be a stepwise σ-insertive pathway. The predicted effective barrier for turnover-limiting aminolysis compares favourably with reported catalytic performance data. Non-competitive kinetic demands militates against the operation of the concerted proton-assisted pathway, which describes N-C bond-forming ring closure triggered by concomitant amino proton delivery at the C[double bond, length as m-dash]C linkage evolving through a six-centre transition state structure. The valuable insights into mechanistic intricacies of aluminium-mediated intramolecular HA reported herein will help guide the rational design of group 13 metal-based HA catalysts.

Abstract
The synthesis and catalytic properties of a series of magnesium compounds consisting of monoanionic, N,N'-chelating ligands (N∩N = amidinates, guanidinates, phosphaguanidinates) is reported. The compounds were synthesized by (i) insertion of a carbodiimide into an existing Mg-C or Mg-N bond, or (ii) protonolysis of an organomagnesium compound by a neutral pre-ligand. Structural analyses of mono- or bis-(chelate) compounds with general formula Mg(N∩N)X(L)n and Mg(N∩N)2(L)n (X = halide, aryloxide, amide; L = Et2O, THF; n = 0, 1 or 2) have been performed and the influence that the ligand substituent patterns have on the solid-state structures has been probed. Selected examples of the compounds were tested as (pre)catalysts for the polymerization of lactide, the dimerization of aldehydes and the hydroacetylenation of carbodiimides.

Abstract
A thorough computational exploration of the mechanistic intricacies of the intermolecular hydroamination (HA) of vinylarenes by a recently reported class of kinetically stabilised iminoanilide [{N^N}Ae{N(SiMe3)2}⋅(THF)n] alkaline-earth amido compounds (Ae = Ca, Sr, Ba) is presented. Two distinct mechanistic pathways for catalytic HA mediated by alkaline-earth and rare-earth compounds have emerged over the years that account equally well for the specific features of the process. On one hand, a concerted proton-assisted pathway to deliver the amine product in a single step can be invoked and, on the other, a stepwise σ-insertive pathway that comprises a rapid, reversible migratory olefin insertion step linked to a less facile, irreversible Ae-C alkyl bond aminolysis. The results of the study presented herein, which employed a heavily benchmarked and reliable DFT methodology, supports a stepwise σ-insertive pathway that involves fast and reversible migratory C=C bond insertion into the polar Ae-N pyrrolido σ bond. This proceeds with strict 2,1 regioselectivity via a highly polarised four-centre transition state (TS) structure, linked to irreversible intramolecular Ae-C bond aminolysis of the alkaline-earth alkyl intermediate as the energetically favourable mechanism. Turnover-limiting aminolysis is consistent with the significant KIE measured; the DFT-derived effective barrier matches the Eyring parameter empirically determined for the best-performing {N^N}Ba(NR2) catalyst gratifyingly well. It also predicts the observed trend in reactivity (Ca<Sr<Ba) correctly and the computationally estimated primary KIE is close to the observed values. Non-competitive kinetic demands militate against the operation of the alternative concerted proton-assisted pathway, which describes N-C bond formation triggered by concomitant amino proton transfer at the C=C linkage via a multi-centre TS structure. A detailed comparison of {N^N}Ae(NR2) catalysts revealed that the variation in the Ae-pyrrolido bond strength together with the degree of protection of the alkaline earth by a sterically encumbering iminoanilide ligand scaffold not only profoundly influences the performance in HA catalysis, but also the likelihood of traversing rival mechanistic pathways.

Abstract
The addition of an N-H bond to an olefin is the most direct route for the synthesis of alkylamines. Currently, intermolecular hydroamination is limited to reactions of a narrow range of reagents containing N-H bonds or activated alkenes, and all the examples of additions to unactivated alkenes require large excesses of alkene. We report intermolecular hydroamination reactions of indoles with unactivated olefins. The reactions occur with as few as 1.5 equiv of olefin to form N-alkylindoles exclusively and in good yield. Characterizations of the catalyst resting state, kinetic data, labeling studies, and computational data imply that the addition occurs by olefin insertion into the Ir-N bond of an N-indolyl complex and that this insertion reaction is faster than insertion of olefin into the Ir-C bond of the isomeric C-2-indolyl complex.
