Abstract
A Lewis base and acid combination has been effectively employed to stabilize and isolate the low-valent group 14 compounds. We report DFT studies on stabilizing low-valent group 14 diatomics as adducts of Lewis acids employing transition metal carbonyl fragment iron tetracarbonyl [Fe(CO)4] as Lewis acid. Computational studies on [(CO)4Fe]2E2, E = C, Si, Ge, Sn, and Pb, predict five plausible isomers on its potential energy surface: linear (E2_L), bent (E2_B), three-membered (E2_T), dibridged (E2_D), and four-membered (E2_F). For the carbon analogue, the lowest energy configuration is linear and has a typical cumulenic structure, while silicon and germanium analogues favor three-membered cyclic isomers. Four-membered cyclic isomers are the most stable for tin and lead analogues.

Abstract
We describe the use of the cyaphide-azide 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction for the synthesis of a new class of inorganic rotaxanes containing gold(I) triazaphosphole stoppers. Electron-deficient bis-azides, which thread perethylated pillar[5]arene in aromatic solvents, readily react with two equivalents of Au(IDipp)(CP) (IDipp=1,3-bis-(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)-imidazol-2-ylidene) to afford interlocked molecules via an inorganic click reaction. These transformations proceed in good yields (ca. 65 %) and in the absence of a catalyst. The resulting organometallic rotaxanes are air- and moisture-stable and can be purified by column chromatography under aerobic conditions. The targeted rotaxanes were characterized by multi-element nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, mass-spectrometry, and single-crystal X-ray diffraction.

Abstract
Several examples of the cyaphide-azide 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition reaction to afford metallo-triazaphospholes are reported. The gold(I) triazaphospholes Au(IDipp)(CPN3 R) (IDipp=1,3-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imidazol-2-ylidene; R=t Bu, Ad, Dipp), magnesium(II) triazaphospholes, {Mg(Dipp NacNac)(CPN3 R)}2 (Dipp NacNac=CH{C(CH3 )N(Dipp)}2 , Dipp=2,6-diisopropylphenyl; R=t Bu, Bn), and germanium(II) triazaphosphole Ge(Dipp NacNac)-(CPN3 t Bu) can be prepared straightforwardly, under mild conditions and in good yields, in a manner reminiscent of the classic alkyne-azide click reaction (albeit without a catalyst). This reactivity can be extended to compounds with two azide functional groups such as 1,3-diazidobenzene. It is shown that the resulting metallo-triazaphospholes can be used as precursors to carbon-functionalized species, including protio- and iodo-triazaphospholes.

Abstract
Trimethylsilyl-substituted triazaphospholes were synthesized by a [3+2] cycloaddition reaction between organic azides and (CH3)3Si-CP. In an attempt to isolate their N-alkylated products, the formation of BF3 adducts of unprecedented triazaphosphol-5-ylidenes was found. The nature of the carboncarbene-boron bond was investigated within the DFT framework, revealing a strong donation of electrons from the carbene carbon atom to the boron atom combined with weak back-bonding.

Abstract
The highly labile complexes between phosphaethyne (HCP) and hydrogen chloride (HCl) with 1:1 and 1:2 stoichiometries have been generated in Ar and N2 matrices at 10 K through laser photolysis of the molecular precursors 1-chlorophosphaethene (CH2PCl) and dichloromethylphosphine (CH3PCl2), respectively. The IR spectrum of the 1:1 complex suggests the preference of a single "T-shaped" structure in which HCl acts as the hydrogen donor that interacts with the electron-rich C≡P triple bond. In contrast, three isomeric structures for the 1:2 complex bearing a core structure of the "T-shaped" 1:1 complex are present in the matrix. The spectroscopic identification of these rare HCP π-electron complexes is supported by D-isotope labeling and the quantum chemical calculations at the CCSD(T)-F12a/cc-pVTZ-F12 level of theory.

Abstract
The first five low-lying electronic states of HCPN3 are probed through extensive ab initio electronic structure and quantum dynamics studies to reproduce the 193 nm photoelectron spectrum. Vibronic Hamiltonian is constructed and availed for time-dependent (TD) and time-independent (TI) quantum dynamical studies. The presence of numerous conical intersections (CIs) and crossings among electronic states yielded interesting nonadiabatic effects in the photoelectron bands of the overall spectrum. Moreover, the theoretical bands corresponding to five electronic states have reproduced all three experimental spectral bands. Among these, the first two bands originated due to a combination of four electronic states as predicted by previous studies. The third band corresponds to the fifth electronic state. The results calculated via TD and TI approaches exhibited satisfying agreement with the experimental results.

Abstract
A diglyme solution of Na[cyclo-P5 ] (1) reacts with alkynes and isolobal nitriles and phosphaalkynes to afford the otherwise elusive (aza)phospholide anions 2 a-c, 4 a,b, and 6. The reaction of Na[cyclo-P5 ] with alkynes and nitriles was studied by means of DFT methods, which suggested a concerted mechanism for the formation of 2 a and 4 b. The anions 2 a-c, 4 a,b, and 6 coordinate in an η5 -fashion towards FeII to give the sandwich (aza)phosphametallocenes 3 a-c, 5 a,b and 7 in moderate to good yields. The new compounds were characterized by means of multinuclear NMR spectroscopy, single-crystal X-ray diffraction and cyclic voltammetry.

Abstract
A stable (amino)plumbylene‐substituted phosphaketene 3 was synthesized by the successive reactions of PbCl2 with two anionic reagents (lithium amidophosphine and NaPCO). Of particular interest, the thermal evolution of 3, at 80 °C, leads to the transient formation of corresponding amino‐ and phosphanylidene‐phosphaketenes (6 and 7), via a reductive elimination at the PbII center forming new N−P and P−P bonds. Further evolution of 6 gives a new cyclic (amino)phosphanylidene phosphorane 4, which shows a unique reactivity as a phosphinidene. This result provides a new synthetic route to phosphinidenes, extending and facilitating further their access.

Abstract
Phosphorus mononitride (PN) only has a fleeting existence on Earth, and molecular precursors for the release of this molecule under mild conditions in solution have remained elusive. Here we report the synthesis of an anthracene-based precursor-an anthracene moiety featuring an azidophosphine bridge across its central ring-that dissociates into dinitrogen, anthracene and P≡N in solution with a first-order half-life of roughly 30 min at room temperature. Heated under reduced pressure, this azidophosphine-anthracene precursor decomposes in an explosive fashion at around 42 °C, as demonstrated in a molecular-beam mass spectrometry study. The precursor is also shown to serve as a PN transfer reagent in the synthesis of an Fe-NP coordination complex, through ligand exchange with its Fe-N2 counterpart. The terminal N-bonded complex was found to be energetically preferred, compared to its P-bonded linkage isomer, owing to a significant covalent Fe-pnictogen bond character and an associated less unfavourable Pauli repulsion in the metal-ligand interaction.

Abstract
Density functional theory (DFT) calculations with 1-phenylselenylphosphirane complex 1 provide an insight into phosphirane fragmentation to phosphinidene complexes. FMO and ELF analyses show that the cleavage of two P-C σ bonds of phosphirane proceeds via an asynchronous concerted pathway. Transient [PhSeP-W(CO)5] was generated by dissociation of 1 at 90 °C and trapped with different reagents. The 1-phenoxylphosphirane complex undergoes [1 + 2] retroaddition at a comparatively higher temperature which implies that the lone pair of the adjacent atom center of phosphorus plays a major role in phosphirane fragmentation.

Abstract
11-Azido-9,10-dihydro-9,10-phosphanoanthracene (N3PA) has been demonstrated recently as a transfer reagent for molecular phosphorus mononitride (PN) because it easily dissociates at room temperature into dinitrogen (N2), PN, and anthracene (A). Here we report further reactivity studies of the N3PA molecule including strain-promoted 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition with cyclooctyne and Staudinger-type reactivity. Calculations at the DLPNO-CCSD(T)/cc-pVTZ//PBE0-D3(BJ)/cc-pVTZ level of theory indicate that the click reaction is faster than the dissociation of N3PA. The Staudinger-type reactivity enabled transfer of the NPA fragment to a base-stabilized silylene. The previously reported intermediate of vanadium trisanilide with an NPA ligand could be isolated in 61% yield and structurally characterized in a single-crystal X-ray diffraction experiment. In line with the previously reported phosphinidene reactivity of the transient vanadium phosphorus mononitride complex, thermolysis or irradiation of the complex leads to A elimination and formation of the corresponding vanadium PN dimer or trimer, respectively.

Abstract
The vibrational spectra of the simplest phosphaketene HPCO and its isotopologue DPCO in solid Ar-matrices at 12.0 K have been analyzed with the aid of the computations at the CCSD(T)-F12a/cc-pVTZ-F12 level using configuration-selective vibrational configuration interaction (VCI). In addition to the four IR fundamentals, four overtone and ten combination bands have been unambiguously identified. Furthermore, the photochemistry of HPCO in the matrix has been investigated for the first time. Upon UV-light irradiation (365 or 266 nm), CO-elimination occurs by forming the parent phosphinidene HP that can be trapped by ˙NO to yield the elusive phosphinimine-N-oxyl radical HPNO˙. In contrast, an excimer laser (193 nm) irradiation of HPCO causes additional decomposition to H˙ and ˙PCO with concomitant formation of the long-sought phosphaethyne HOCP.

Abstract
While the implication of the aromaticity concept has been dramatically expanded to date since its emergence in 1865, the classical [4n+2]/4n-electron counting protocol still plays an essential role in evaluating the aromatic nature of compounds. Over the last few decades, a variety of heavier heterocycles featuring the formal [4n+2] π-electron arrangements have been developed, which allows for assessing their aromatic nature. In this review, we present recent developments of the [4n+2]-electron systems of heavier heterocycles involving group 13-15 elements. The synthesis, spectroscopic data, structural parameters, computational data, and reactivity are introduced.

Dibenzo-7-phosphanorbornadiene-substituted diazene MesN2PA (1, where Mes = mesityl, A = anthracene, or C14H10), a synthetic equivalent of mesitylphosphaazide (MesN2P) and anthracene, was synthesized by treatment of [Ph3BPA][Na(OEt2)2] with [MesN2]OTf (OTf = CF3SO3-) in thawing tetrahydrofuran (14% isolated yield). Treatment of 1 with unsaturated molecules cyclooctyne, [Na(dioxane)2.5][OCP] (phosphaethynolate), and Ad-C≡P (Ad = adamantyl) results in the corresponding [3 + 2] phosphaazide-(phospha)alkyne cycloadducts, with concomitant loss of anthracene in 65%, 49%, and 38% isolated yield, respectively. Structural data for the phosphaethynolate cycloadduct ([3][Na(12-crown-4)2]) were obtained in a single-crystal X-ray diffraction study. A diazatriphosphole was generated by combining 1 with P2A2, a thermally activated anthracene-based molecular precursor to diphosphorus (P2). Thermolysis (33-65 °C) of 1 in benzene-d6 leads to anthracene extrusion. This process has a unimolecular kinetic profile and proceeds with activation parameters of ΔH⧧ = 21.6 ± 0.3 kcal/mol and ΔS⧧= -4.9 ± 0.8 cal/(mol K).

Abstract
Treatment of Cp3Ln (Ln = Yb, Y) with 5-R3-6-R1-2-R2-1H-1,3-benzazaphosphole (HBp) (HBp1 (1a): R1 = H, R2 = 2,4,6-Me3C6H2, R3 = Me; HBp2(1b): R1 = Me, R2 = C6H5, R3 = H; HBp3(1c): R1 = R3 = H, R2 = C6H5) at room temperature gives the crystalline 1 : 1 Lewis acid-base adducts [(η1(p)-HBp)LnCp3] (2a-d) [Ln = Yb: Bp = Bp1 (2a), Bp2 (2b), Bp3 (2c); Ln = Y: Bp2 (2d)] with Ln-P donor bonds in good yields. Heating 2a-c in toluene leads to the liberation of one molecule of CpH to afford the corresponding N-bonded complexes [Cp2YbBp] (Bp = Bp1 (3a), Bp2 (3b), Bp3 (3c)). Interestingly, the P atom of complexes 3a-c can also be further coordinated to another Lewis acid such as Cp3Yb and B(C6F5)3 to give the adducts [Cp2Yb(μ-η1(N):η2(C,C):η1(P)-Bp)YbCp3] (Bp = Bp1 (4a), Bp2 (4b), Bp3 (4c)) and [Cp2Yb(μ-η1(N):η2(C,C):η1(P)-Bp)B(C6F5)3] (Bp = Bp1 (5a), Bp2 (5b), Bp3 (5c)), respectively. The molecular structures of complexes 2a, 4b-4c and 5c are confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis.

Abstract
A novel copper-catalyzed synthetic method is described for phosphorous- and nitrogen-containing heterocycles such as 1,3-azaphospholes. Cycloaddition reactions of various isocyanoacetates with phosphaalkynes in the presence of copper bromide, bis(diphenylphosphino)methane (dppm), and potassium carbonate afford the corresponding 1,3-azaphospholes in high yields with complete selectivity. Some dppm-bridged dicopper complexes were identified as active species for the formation of 1,3-azaphospholes.

Abstract
Muonium (Mu), an H atom analogue, is employed to probe the addition of free radicals to the P=C bond of a phosphaalkene. Specifically, two unprecedented muoniated free radicals, MesP. -CMu(Me)2 (1 a, minor product) and MesPMu-C. Me2 (1 b, major product), were detected by muon spin spectroscopy (μSR) when a solution of MesP=CMe2 (1: Mes=2,4,6-trimethylphenyl) was exposed to a beam of positive muons (μ+ ). The μ+ serves as a source of Mu (that is, Mu=μ+ +e- ). To confirm the identity of the major product 1 b, its spectral features were compared to its isotopologue, MesPH-C. (Me)CH2 Mu (2 a). Conveniently, 2 a is the sole product of the reaction of MesPH(CMe=CH2 ) (2) with Mu. For all observed radicals, muon, proton, and phosphorus hyperfine coupling constants were determined by μSR and compared to DFT-calculated values.

Abstract
Sulfur monoxide (SO) is a highly reactive molecule and thus, eludes bulk isolation. We report here on synthesis and reactivity of a molecular precursor for SO generation, namely 7-sulfinylamino-7-azadibenzonorbornadiene (1). This compound has been shown to fragment readily driven by dinitrogen expulsion and anthracene formation on heating in the solid state and in solution, releasing SO at mild temperatures (<100 °C). The generated SO was detected in the gas phase by MS and rotational spectroscopy. In solution, 1 allows for SO transfer to organic molecules as well as transition metal complexes.

Abstract
Formal addition of diazomethane's terminal nitrogen atom to the 9,10-positions of anthracene yields H2CN2A (1, A = C14H10 or anthracene).
Formal addition of diazomethane's terminal nitrogen atom to the 9,10-positions of anthracene yields H2CN2A (1, A = C14H10 or anthracene). The synthesis of this hydrazone is reported from Carpino's hydrazine H2N2A through treatment with paraformaldehyde. Compound 1 has been found to be an easy-to-handle solid that does not exhibit dangerous heat or shock sensitivity. Effective umpolung of the diazomethane unit imbues 1 with electrophilicity at the methylene carbon center. Its reactivity with nucleophiles such as H2CPPh3 and N-heterocyclic carbenes is exploited for C

Abstract
An anthracene-based N-isocyanide was synthesized and its reactivity studied. This sensitive compound was structurally characterized as a free species and as a ligand in a ruthenium complex, and underwent C-atom transfer upon treatment with an O-atom donor to evolve CO.

Abstract
Toward the preparation of a coordination complex of the heterodiatomic molecule PN, P≡N-V(N[tBu]Ar)3 (1, Ar = 3,5-Me2C6H3), we report the use of ClPA (A = C14H10, anthracene) as a formal source of phosphorus(I) in its reaction with Na[NV(N[tBu]Ar)3] (Na[4]) to yield trimeric cyclo-triphosphane [PNV(N[tBu]Ar)3]3 (3) with a core composed exclusively of phosphorus and nitrogen. In the presence of NapS2 (peri-1,8-naphthalene disulfide), NapS2P-NV(N[tBu]Ar)3 (6) is instead generated in 80% yield, suggesting trapping of transient 1. Upon mild heating, 3 readily fragments into dimeric [PNV(N[tBu]Ar)3]2 (2), while in the presence of bis(trimethylsilyl)acetylene or cis-4-octene, the respective phosphirene (Ar[tBu]N)3VN-PC2(SiMe3)2 (7) or phosphirane (Ar[tBu]N)3VN-P(C8H16) (8) compounds are generated. Kinetic data were found to be consistent with unimolecular decay of 3, and [2+1]-cycloaddition with radical clocks ruled out a triplet intermediate, consistent with intermediate 1 reacting as a singlet phosphinidene. In addition, both 7 and 8 were shown to reversibly exchange cis-4-octene and bis(trimethylsilyl)acetylene, serving as formal sources of 1, a reactivity manifold traditionally reserved for transition metals.

Abstract
We report here the results of a combined experimental and computational study of the negative ion photoelectron spectroscopy (NIPES) of the recently synthesized, planar, aromatic, HCPN3(-) ion. The adiabatic electron detachment energy of HCPN3(-) (electron affinity of HCPN3(•)) was measured to be 3.555 ± 0.010 eV, a value that is intermediate between the electron detachment energies of the closely related (CH)2N3(-) and P2N3(-) ions. High level electronic structure calculations and Franck-Condon factor (FCF) simulations reveal that transitions from the ground state of the anion to two nearly degenerate, low-lying, electronic states, of the neutral HCPN3(•) radical are responsible for the congested peaks at low binding energies in the NIPE spectrum. The best fit of the simulated NIPE spectrum to the experimental spectrum indicates that the ground state of HCPN3(•) is a 5π-electron (2)A″ π radical state, with a 6π-electron, (2)A', σ radical state being at most 1.0 kcal/mol higher in energy.
