Abstract
The remarkable biological activities of γ-lactams have stimulated the search for efficient synthetic methods to achieve these scaffolds. In this work, we have developed a simple one-pot diastereoselective synthesis of new γ-lactams from ketoaziridines with moderate to good yields via the Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons reaction, followed by an intramolecular ester-aziridine cyclization and its opening in situ. Preliminary efforts towards an enantioselective version of this method are also reported.

Abstract
A novel [3 + 2]-cycloaddition between azomethine imines and lithium ynolates is described to synthesize bicyclic pyrazolidinones. These bicyclic pyrazolidinones are versatile intermediates to form β-amino acids and monocyclic pyrazolidinones. High diastereoselectivity and stereospecificity allow access to optically active products.

Abstract
The carbonylation of a 1-lithio-1,3-butadiene derivative with CO gave rise to a butadienyl acyllithio intermediate, which underwent an immediate intramolecular acyllithiation of the C═C double bond, affording a lithio cyclopentadienyl enolate. The X-ray structural analysis of the enolate revealed a dimer connected with a "Li(2)O(2)" four-membered ring. Subsequent intermolecular acylation of this enolate with acid chlorides afforded β-keto-3-cyclopentenones, γ-keto-2-cyclopentenones, or cyclopentadienyl ester derivatives. The stereo- and regioselectivity of the in situ generated lithio cyclopentadienyl enolate with various acid chlorides was investigated and analyzed, showing that the formation of the above products was significantly dependent on both the substituents on the butadienyl skeleton and the bulkiness of acid chlorides.

Abstract
An efficient method was developed for the synthesis of 2-methylene-4-substituted ethyl butyrates via cyclopropyl opening followed by a Wittig reaction. The desired products were formed in a two-step, one-pot reaction sequence. Alternatively, the key intermediate ylide 2 was isolable and could be stored under oxygen-free conditions and subsequently utilized. A variety of nucleophiles were found to open the commercially available cyclopropane 1. The resulting ylide reacted with aldehydes to provide E-olefinic products.

Abstract
A comprehensive study of a general and effective one-step procedure for the synthesis of beta-sulfonamidodisulfides directly from N-tosyl aziridines in a regio- and stereospecific manner under neutral conditions without the use of any Lewis acid or base has been reported. This methodology is extended to the synthesis of an optically pure cyclic seven-membered disulfide 29. Synthesis of a variety of beta-sulfonamidosulfides involving tandem, multistep reactions in one pot is also reported.

Abstract
A chemo-, regio-, and stereoselective direct carbon-carbon coupling of readily available aryl borates with N-protected aryl aziridines provides a method for the synthesis of new 2-(o-hydroxyaryl)-2-aryl ethylamines which can be used, in a novel annulation sequence, to give stereodefined substituted 3-aryl indolines. Abstract
[reaction: see text] Intramolecular acyl-lithiation of C=C double bonds proceeds following carbonylation of 1-lithio-1,3-dienes with CO to afford 2- or 3-cyclopentenone derivatives in good to excellent yields after hydrolysis. Addition of electrophiles to the carbonylation reaction mixtures affords various multiply substituted cyclopentenones.

Abstract
Treatment of alkynyltungsten complexes with tethered aziridines in the presence of BF(3).Et(2)O led to [3 + 2]-cycloaddition reactions, affording bicyclic tungsten-enamine species stereoselectively. The stereochemistry of the resulting product reveals that ring opening of aziridine is initiated by S(N)2 attack of the tungsten fragment. Decomplexation of these organometallics with I(2) in CH(2)Cl(2), followed by hydrolysis, afforded only cis-fused bicyclic lactams efficiently. [reaction: see text]

Abstract
A procedure for performing stereocontrolled aziridine ring-opening reactions with chiral enolates derived from (S,S)-(+)-pseudoephedrine amides has been developed leading to gamma-aminoamides in good yields. The diastereoselectivity of the reaction becomes controlled by the presence of the chiral auxiliary on the enolate, although the stereogenic center contained in the structure of the aziridine has a striking influence on the stereochemical course of the reaction which results in the presence of the corresponding matched and mismatched combinations. Besides, the sense of the asymmetric induction of the chiral auxiliary has resulted to be the opposite to the one found with other type of electrophiles, although it is in good agreement with the trend observed in the reaction of the same kind of enolates with epoxides. Finally, the obtained gamma-aminoamide adducts were converted into enantiopure gamma-amino acids, gamma-aminoesters, and pyrrolidin-2-ones using easy to perform and high yielding reactions.
