Abstract
A simple, efficient, and transition metal-free approach was developed for accessing 4-thio-substituted chroman and diarylmethyl thioethers from sulfonyl hydrazones. This protocol provides straightforward access to a class of diarylmethane derivatives with good to excellent yields. This operationally simple protocol exhibited good tolerance for labile functional groups, providing biologically relevant chemical libraries. This safe and feasible route is applicable to the large-scale synthesis of 4-thio-substituted chromans, which are of great synthetic interest because of their further reaction potential.

Abstract
A novel visible light promoted formation of CAryl- S bonds through electron donor-acceptor (EDA) complexes of alkylamines with 5- and 6-membered (hetero)arene halides is presented. This represents the first EDA-based thiolation method not relying on π-π or a thiolate-anion-π interactions and provides a facile access to heteroarene radicals, which can be suitably trapped by disulfide derivatives to form the corresponding versatile arylsulfides. Mechanistic investigations on the aspects of the whole process were conducted by spectroscopic measurements, demonstrating the hypothesized EDA complex formation. Moreover, the strength of this method has been proven by a gram-scale synthesis of thiolated products and the late-stage derivatization of an anticoagulant drug.

Abstract
Di(1-adamantyl)phosphine oxide (SPO-Ad: Ad2P(V)(=O)H), a stable tautomer of di(1-adamantyl)phosphinous acid (PA-Ad: Ad2P(III)-OH), was employed to synthesize two new PA-Ad-coordinated complexes, POPd-Ad and POPd2-Ad. POPd-Ad was easily transformed from POPd2-Ad in acetonitrile, and the [M - H]- ion of the deprotonated POPd-Ad was observed in the electrospray ionization-mass spectrum of POPd2-Ad. Both complexes are effective precatalysts for the Suzuki reaction of aryl chlorides. The reduction of Pd(II) in POPd-Ad and POPd2-Ad by arylboronic acid was examined, and the ideal Pd-to-PA ratio in the Suzuki reaction was found to be 1:1. The effect of temperature on the catalytic yields was studied to examine the possible ligation state of the active species and the dimer-to-monomer process of POPd2-Ad. Mononuclear and mono-ligated Pd species was assumed to be catalytically active. The electronic and steric effects of PA-Ad were slightly better than those reported for PA-tBu ( t Bu2P(III)-OH). Density functional theory calculations were performed to evaluate the formation of mono-ligated and mononuclear Pd species from POPd-Ad and POPd2-Ad. Furthermore, the reaction time and catalyst loading could be reduced for the reported POPd1-tBu precatalyst using the optimized reaction conditions for POPd-Ad. The complexes synthesized in this extensive study will complement the existing SPO-coordinated POPd series of precatalysts.

Abstract
An efficacious and mild KOtBu-promoted intramolecular C-S cross-coupling of ortho-iodothioanilides in conjunction with a catalytic quantity of phenanthroline as an additive has been described for the convenient synthesis of 2-substituted benzothiazoles. The methodology is suitable for attaining a wide variety of 2-alkyl- and 2-aryl-substituted benzothiazoles. Single-crystal XRD, DFT calculations, NMR, and UV studies suggest that halogen bonds between the units of ortho-iodothioanilides may assist in the electron transfer process.

Abstract
Methods to functionalize arenes and heteroarenes in a site-selective manner are highly sought after for rapidly constructing value-added molecules of medicinal, agrochemical, and materials interest. One effective approach is the site-selective cross-coupling of polyhalogenated arenes bearing multiple, but identical, halogen groups. Such cross-coupling reactions have proven to be incredibly effective for site-selective functionalization. However, they also present formidable challenges due to the inherent similarities in the reactivities of the halogen substituents. In this Review, we discuss strategies for site-selective cross-couplings of polyhalogenated arenes and heteroarenes bearing identical halogens, beginning first with an overview of the reaction types that are more traditional in nature, such as electronically, sterically, and directing-group-controlled processes. Following these examples is a description of emerging strategies, which includes ligand- and additive/solvent-controlled reactions as well as photochemically initiated processes.

Abstract
A simple and efficient method for the regioselective thiolation of p-quinone methides with sodium aryl/alkyl sulfinates has been established using an acid/phosphine-induced radical route under transition-metal-free conditions. A broad range of sodium aryl/alkyl sulfinates and p-quinone methides (p-QMs) are compatible for the reaction, giving the expected products with good to excellent yields. Control experiments were also performed to gain insights into the generation mechanism of thiyl radicals and hydrogen-atom transfer process. This protocol provides a safe and feasible way for the formation of carbon-sulfur bonds.

Abstract
C-S cross-coupling reaction in water giving an excellent yield of the desired C-S coupled product by using a newly developed Bis[2-(4,5-diphenyl-1H-imidazol-2-yl)-4-nitrophenolato] copper(II) dehydrate complex as catalyst. Although it was the first report of the synthesis of such a novel organo-copper complex from our laboratory, its potential catalytic application was not tested so far. Keeping this in mind and based on our anticipation, we developed a greener route for the C-S coupling reaction. The result is very interesting and comprises the subject matter of this report.

Abstract
Potassium tertiary butoxide (KOtBu) mediated constructions of C-C, C-O, C-N, and C-S bonds are reviewed with special emphasis on their synthetic applications. KOtBu can be used to perform reactions already known to be carried out using transition metals, but it has advantages in terms of environmental congruence and economic cost. KOtBu is widely employed in organic synthesis to mediate the construction of C-C, C-O, C-N, C-S and miscellaneous bonds in good to excellent yields. Synthetic uses of KOtBu in coupling, alkylation, arylation, α-phenylation, cyclization, Heck-type, annulation, photo-arylation, aromatic-substitution, amidation, and silylation reactions are summarized and discussed. The mechanisms through which KOtBu carries out a specific reaction are also discussed. One of the goals of this review is to attract the attention of chemists as to the benefits of using KOtBu as an environmentally benign alternative to transition metals and its applications in the construction of chemical bonds with predominant importance in organic synthesis. This review completely covers the synthetic protocols that have been performed using KOtBu in the last two decades.

Abstract
A reaction method is described for the one-step synthesis of 2-alkynylpyrimidines from 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-1H-2-thiones (DHPMs) via dehydrosulfurative Sonogashira cross-coupling with concomitant oxidative dehydrogenation using a Pd/Cu catalytic system. Together with the ready availability of DHPMs possessing various substituents at the C4-C6 positions, this transformation offers rapid and general access to diverse 2-alkynylpyrimidine derivatives.

Abstract
Herein, we report a copper-catalysed site-selective thiolation of Csp3-H bonds of aliphatic amines. The method features a broad substrate scope and good functional group compatibility. Primary, secondary, and tertiary C-H bonds can be converted into C-S bonds with a high efficiency. The late-stage modification of biologically active compounds by this method was also demonstrated. Furthermore, the one-pot preparation of pyrrolidine or piperidine compounds via a domino process was achieved.

Abstract
We developed a catalyst-, reagent-, and additive-free protocol with 100% atom economy for the synthesis of diarylmethyl phosphine oxides via 1,6-hydrophosphonylation of p-quinone methides using water as a green solvent. The reaction showed broad scope with excellent functional group tolerance. The practicability of this method was demonstrated by carrying out the reaction on the gram scale whereby product was obtained in high yield by the filtration technique avoiding chromatographic purification.

Abstract
The diphosphinoamine ligands [(Ph2P)2N(Ar); 1 (Ar = C6H5), 2 (Ar = 2,6-iPr2C6H3)] were effectively utilized in Buchwald-Hartwig coupling of a range of sterically demanding substrates. The reaction was carried out using conventional and microwave routes and the latter reduces the reaction time from 3 d to 15-30 min. A broad substrate scope was achieved in this protocol and most of the coupling products are isolated on a mutligram scale. DFT calculations were carried out to elucidate the reaction mechanism.

Palladium-catalyzed microwave-assisted Hirao reaction utilizing the excess of the diarylphosphine oxide reagent as the P-ligand; a study on the activity and formation of the “PdP2” catalyst. Abstract
Abstract
The microwave-assisted Hirao reaction of bromobenzene and diarylphosphine oxides was performed at 120 °C using triethylamine as the base, and 5% of palladium acetate as the catalyst in ethanol. 5% Excess of the >P(O)H reagent served as the reducing agent, while another 10% as the preligand (in the >POH tautomeric form). It was found that the P–C coupling reaction was significantly faster with (2-MeC6H4)2P(O)H (A) and (3,5-diMeC6H3)2P(O)H (B), than with Ph2P(O)H (C) and (4-MeC6H4)2P(O)H (D). Moreover, species A and B could be applied as selective P-ligands in the reaction of bromobenzene with C or D. Dependence of the effectiveness of “PdP2” catalysts with diarylphosphine oxide preligands on the methyl substituents followed a reversed order as the reactivity of the diarylphosphine oxide species in the P–C coupling itself. Formation of the “PdP2” catalyst from palladium acetate and diarylphosphine oxide has never been studied, but now it was evaluated by us at the B3LYP level of theory applying 6-31G(d,p) for C,H,P,O and SDD/MW28 for Pd including the explicit-implicit solvent model. The novel mechanism requiring three equivalents of the >P(O)H species for each of the palladium acetate molecule was in agreement with the preparative experiments. The ligation of palladium(0) with different P(III) species comprising the >POH form of the >P(O)H reagent was also studied, and the critical role of the steric hindrance on the ligation, and hence on the activity of the “PdP2” catalyst was substantiated. Last but not least, the influence of the Me substituents in the aromatic ring of the P-reagents on the energetics of the elemental steps of the Hirao reaction itself was also evaluated.

Abstract
This report widens the repertoire of emerging PdI catalysis to carbon-heteroatom, that is, C-S bond formation. While Pd0 -catalyzed protocols may suffer from the formation of poisonous sulfide-bound off-cycle intermediates and lack of selectivity, the mechanistically diverse PdI catalysis concept circumvents these challenges and allows for C-S bond formation (S-aryl and S-alkyl) of a wide range of aryl halides. Site-selective thiolations of C-Br sites in the presence of C-Cl and C-OTf were achieved in a general and a priori predictable fashion. Computational, spectroscopic, X-ray, and reactivity data support dinuclear PdI catalysis to be operative. Contrary to air-sensitive Pd0 , the active PdI species was easily recovered in the open atmosphere and subjected to multiple rounds of recycling.

Abstract
Visible-light photocatalysis has evolved over the last decade into a widely used method in organic synthesis. Photocatalytic variants have been reported for many important transformations, such as cross-coupling reactions, α-amino functionalizations, cycloadditions, ATRA reactions, or fluorinations. To help chemists select photocatalytic methods for their synthesis, we compare in this Review classical and photocatalytic procedures for selected classes of reactions and highlight their advantages and limitations. In many cases, the photocatalytic reactions proceed under milder reaction conditions, typically at room temperature, and stoichiometric reagents are replaced by simple oxidants or reductants, such as air, oxygen, or amines. Does visible-light photocatalysis make a difference in organic synthesis? The prospect of shuttling electrons back and forth to substrates and intermediates or to selectively transfer energy through a visible-light-absorbing photocatalyst holds the promise to improve current procedures in radical chemistry and to open up new avenues by accessing reactive species hitherto unknown, especially by merging photocatalysis with organo- or metal catalysis.

Abstract
A mild visible-light-mediated strategy for cysteine arylation is presented. The method relies on the use of eosin Y as a metal-free photocatalyst and aryldiazonium salts as arylating agents. The reaction can be significantly accelerated in a microflow reactor, whilst allowing the in situ formation of the required diazonium salts. The batch and flow protocol described herein can be applied to obtain a broad series of arylated cysteine derivatives and arylated cysteine-containing dipeptides. Moreover, the method was applied to the chemoselective arylation of a model peptide in biocompatible reaction conditions (room temperature, phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) buffer) within a short reaction time.
