Abstract
Multifunctionalization from the interception of active intermediates is an attractive synthetic strategy for the efficient construction of complex molecular scaffolds in an atom and step economic fashion. However, the design of reactions involving metal carbynoids that exhibit carbene/carbocation behavior is currently limited, and developing catalyst-controlled highly enantioselective versions poses significant challenges. In this study, we present the first asymmetric trifunctionalization reactions with rhodium carbynoids. This reaction unveils the distinctive reactivity of the carbynoid precursor, enabling it to react with simultaneously two nucleophiles and one electrophile. This process involves the formation of two distinct carbene ylides with the alcohol/carbamate and the trapping of one ylide with the imine, resulting in the formation of three new bonds. Furthermore, this strategy allows for the divergent synthesis of a wide array of β-amino esters in high yields and exceptional enantioselectivity.

Abstract
Insertion reactions that involve stabilized electrophilic metallocarbenes are of great importance for installing α-heteroatoms to carbonyl compounds. Nevertheless, the limited availability of carbene precursors restricts the introduction of only a single heteroatom. In this report, we describe a new approach based on an I(III) /S(VI) reagent that promotes the cascade insertion of heteroatoms. This is achieved by sequentially generating two α-heteroatom-substituted metal carbenes in one reaction. We found that this mixed I(III) /S(VI) ylide reacts efficiently with a transition metal catalyst and an X-H bond (where X=O, N). This transformation leads to the sequential formation of a sulfoxonium- and an X-substituted Rh-carbenes, enabling further reactions with another Y-H bond. Remarkably, a wide range of symmetrical and unsymmetrical α,α-O,O-, α,α-O,N-, and α,α-N,N-subsituted ketones can be prepared under mild ambient conditions. In addition, we successfully demonstrated other cascades, such as CN/CN double amidation, C-H/C-S double insertion, and C-S/Y-H double insertion (where Y=S, N, O, C). Notably, the latter two cascades enabled the simultaneous installation of three functional groups to the α-carbon of carbonyl compounds in a single step. These reactions demonstrate the versatility of our approach, allowing for the synthesis of ketones and esters with multiple α-heteroatoms using a common precursor.

Abstract
We describe the first catalytic generation of Fischer-type acyloxy Rh(II)-carbenes from carboxylic acids and Rh(II)-carbynoids. This novel class of transient donor/acceptor Rh(II)-carbenes evolved through a cyclopropanation process providing access to densely functionalized cyclopropyl-fused lactones with excellent diastereoselectivity. DFT calculations allowed the analysis of the properties of Rh(II)-carbynoids and acyloxy Rh(II)-carbenes as well as the characterization of the mechanism.

Abstract
The development of a flexible, component-based synthetic route to the amino sugar fragment of the lincosamide antibiotics is described. This route hinges on the application and extension of nitroaldol chemistry to forge strategic bonds within complex amino sugar targets and employs a glycal epoxide as a versatile glycosyl donor for the installation of anomeric groups. Through building-block exchange and late-stage functionalization, this route affords access to a host of rationally designed lincosamides otherwise inaccessible by semisynthesis and underpins a platform for the discovery of new lincosamide antibiotics.

Abstract
2-(Hetero)aryl tetrahydrofurans and tetrahydropyrans were successfully synthesized using Bi(OTf)3-catalyzed hydroalkoxylation (cycloisomerization) of alkynols (via 5 or 6 exo-dig cyclization) and intermolecular (hetero)arylation. This reaction involves a highly efficient cascade process, where initially the alkynol undergoes a cycloisomerization step via activation of the triple bond and generates the oxocarbenium ion, which subsequently participates in the (hetero)hydroarylation step with electron-rich arenes. Simple to complex suitably functionalized alkynols (4-pentyn-1-ols and 5-hexyn-1-ols) and electron-rich aromatic compounds were found to be reliable substrates in this cascade transformation and furnished a wide range of oxygen heterocycles. This practical tandem process provides a means to build libraries related to pharmacologically active molecules and natural product like scaffolds.

Abstract
2-Pyrones and 4-pyrones are common structural motifs in bioactive natural products. However, traditional methods for their synthesis, which try to emulate the biosynthetic pathway of cyclization of a 1,3,5-tricarbonyl precursor, are often harsh and, therefore, not particularly suitable for applications to polyfunctionalized and/or sensitive target compounds. π-Acid catalysis, in contrast, has proved to be better for a systematic exploration of the pyrone estate. To this end, alkynes are used as stable ketone surrogates, which can be activated under exceedingly mild conditions due to the pronounced carbophilicity of [LAu]+ fragments (L=two electron donor ligand); attack of a tethered ester carbonyl group onto the transient alkyne-gold complex then forges the pyrone ring in a fully regiocontrolled manner.

Abstract
We synthesized poly(isothianaphthene methine)s with chiral alkyl chains in the substituent. Resultant polymers are soluble in THF and CHCl3. Structure of the polymers was characterized with FT-IR, FT-Raman, and UV-Vis-NIR optical absorption spectroscopy. They showed low-bandgap both in solution and in a form of film. Optical activity of the polymers was confirmed with optical rotatory dispersion. Doping effects on the polymer were also examined with UV-Vis-NIR spectroscopy and ESR measurement.

Abstract
Since the time of Giacomo Ciamician at the beginning of the 20th century, photochemical transformations have been recognized as contributing to sustainable chemistry. Electronic excitation significantly changes the reactivity of chemical compounds. Thus, the application of activation reagents is frequently avoided and transformations can be performed under mild conditions. Catalysis plays a central role in sustainable chemistry. Stoichiometric amounts of activation reagents are often avoided. This fact and the milder catalytic reaction conditions diminish the formation of byproducts. In the case of homogeneous catalysis, organometallic compounds are often applied. The combination of both techniques develops synergistic effects in the sense of "Green Chemistry". Herein, metal carbonyl-mediated reactions are reported. These transformations are of considerable interest for the synthesis of complex polyfunctionalized compounds. Copper(I)-catalyzed [2+2] photocycloaddition gives access to a large variety of cyclobutane derivatives. Currently, a large number of publications deal with photochemical electron-transfer-induced reactions with organometallic and coordination compounds, particularly with ruthenium complexes. Several photochemically induced oxidations can easily be performed with air or molecular oxygen when they are catalyzed with organometallic complexes. Photochemical reaction conditions also play a certain role in C-H activation with organometallic catalysts, for instance, with alkanes, although such transformations are conveniently performed with a variety of other photochemical reactions.

Abstract
Organic vinylidene species have found limited use in organic synthesis owing to their inaccessibility. In contrast, metal vinylidenes are much more stable and may be readily accessed through transition-metal activation of terminal alkynes. These electrophilic species may be trapped by a number of nucleophiles. Additionally, metal vinylidenes can participate in pericyclic reactions and processes that involve migration of a metal ligand to the vinylidene species. This Focus Review addresses the reactions and applications of metal vinylidenes in organic synthesis.

Abstract
[reaction: see text] The tungsten-catalyzed cycloisomerization of alkynyl alcohols can be conducted without using photochemistry, using a stable tungsten Fischer carbene as the precatalyst for this transformation. A variety of alkynyl alcohols undergo cycloisomerization under these conditions to provide endocyclic enol ethers of five-, six-, and seven-membered ring sizes. The utility of this method is further demonstrated in the stereoselective synthesis of the disaccharide substructure of altromycin B.
