Abstract
Strong-field hexadentate ligands were synthesized and coordinated to cobalt metal centers to result in three new low-spin to low-spin Co(III/II) redox couples. The ligand backbone has been modified with dimethyl amine groups to result in redox potential tuning of the Co(III/II) redox couples from -200 to -430 mV versus Fc+/0. The redox couples surprisingly undergo a reversible molecular switch rearrangement from five-coordinate Co(II) to six-coordinate Co(III) despite the ligands being hexadentate. The complexes exhibit modestly faster electron self-exchange rate constants of 2.2-4.2 M-1 s-1 compared to the high-spin to low-spin redox couple [Co(bpy)3]3+/2+ at 0.27 M-1 s-1, which is attributed to the change in spin state being somewhat offset by this coordination switching behavior. The complexes were utilized as redox shuttles in dye-sensitized solar cells with the near-IR AP25 + D35 dye system and exhibited improved photocurrents over the [Co(bpy)3]3+/2+ redox shuttle (19.8 vs 18.0 mA/cm2). Future directions point toward pairing the low-spin to low-spin Co(II/III) tunable series to dyes with significantly more negative highest occupied molecular orbital potentials that absorb into the near-IR where outer sphere redox shuttles have failed to produce efficient dye regeneration.

Abstract
Halides adjacent to nitrogen are conventionally more reactive in Pd-catalyzed cross-couplings of dihalogenated N-heteroarenes. However, a very sterically hindered N-heterocyclic carbene ligand is shown to promote room-temperature cross-coupling at C4 of 2,4-dichloropyridines with high selectivity (∼10:1). This work represents the first highly selective method with a broad scope for C4-coupling of these substrates where selectivity is clearly under ligand control. Under the optimized conditions, diverse substituted 2,4-dichloropyridines and related compounds undergo cross-coupling to form C4-C(sp2) and C4-C(sp3) bonds using organoboron, -zinc, and -magnesium reagents. The synthetic utility of this method is highlighted in multistep syntheses that combine C4-selective cross-coupling with subsequent nucleophilic aromatic substitution reactions. The majority of the products herein (71%) have not been previously reported, emphasizing the ability of this methodology to open up underexplored chemical space. Remarkably, we find that ligand-free "Jeffery" conditions enhance the C4 selectivity of Suzuki coupling by an order of magnitude (>99:1). These ligand-free conditions enable the first C5-selective cross-couplings of 2,5-dichloropyridine and 2,5-dichloropyrimidine.

Abstract
A three-step synthetic route giving access to nonsymmetrical bisazolyl 2,4,6-trisubstituted pyridines with different substituents on the pyrazole, indazole, and pyridine heterocycles is described. From the readily available 4-bromo-2,6-difluoropyridine, both fluorine atoms allow for easy selective stepwise substitution, and the bromine atom provides easy access to additional functionalities through both Suzuki and Sonogashira Pd(0) cross-coupling reactions. These synthons represent optimal structures as building blocks in complexation and metalloorganic structures for the tuning of their chelating and photophysical properties.

Abstract
A series of six new Fe(II)NHC-carboxylic sensitizers with their ancillary ligand decorated with functions of varied electronic properties have been designed with the aim to increase the metal-to- surface charge separation and light harvesting in iron-based dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs). ARM130 scored the highest efficiency ever reported for an iron-sensitized solar cell (1.83 %) using Mg2+ and NBu4 I-based electrolyte and a thick 20 μm TiO2 anode. Computational modelling, transient absorption spectroscopy and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) revealed that the electronic properties induced by the dimethoxyphenyl-substituted NHC ligand of ARM130 led to the best combination of electron injection yield and spectral sensitivity breadth.

Abstract
A scalable synthesis of chiral Vedejs-type DMAP catalysts is reported. The key step of the synthesis is amination of the enantiomerically pure 4-chloropyridine derivative using well-defined ZnCl2(amine)2 complexes. A series of Zn(II)-amine complexes have been synthesized to explore the scope of the ZnCl2-mediated amination of 4-halopyridines. Mechanistic studies support a Zn(II)-facilitated nucleophilic aromatic substitution as a plausible mechanism for the chlorine-to-amine exchange.

Abstract
Scaling factors are reported for use in predicting 19F NMR chemical shifts for fluorinated (hetero)aromatic compounds with relatively low levels of theory. Our recommended scaling factors were developed using a curated data set of 52 compounds, with 100 individual 19F shifts spanning a range of 153 ppm. With a maximum deviation of 6.5 ppm between experimental and computed shifts, or 4% of the range tested, these scaling factors allow for the assignment of chemical shifts to specific fluorines in multifluorinated aromatics. The utility of this approach is highlighted by several structural reassignments.

Abstract
An efficient and convenient method for the synthesis of [1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-a]pyridines was exemplified by the synthesis of 20 analogues bearing a variety of substituents at the 3-position. The methodology involves a palladium-catalyzed addition of hydrazides to 2-chloropyridine, which occurs chemoselectively at the terminal nitrogen atom of the hydrazide, followed by dehydration in acetic acid under microwave irradiation.

Abstract
Pyridines carrying heterosubstituents (such as carboxy, amido, amino, alkoxy or trifluoromethyl groups or solely individual halogen atoms) can be readily and site selectively metalated. Subsequent reaction with a suitable electrophile opens rational access to a wealth of new building blocks for the synthesis of biologically active compounds. This approach relies on organometallic methods, which are both efficacious and extremely flexible as far as the substitution site and the product structure are concerned (86 references).

Abstract
The concept of "regioexhaustive substitution" has been successfully applied to 2-fluoro-, 2,3-difluoro-, and 2,5-difluoropyridine. All vacant positions were amenable to regioselective metalation and subsequent carboxylation by employing either chlorine as a neighboring site activating protective group or trimethylsilyl as a neighboring site screening protective group. In this way, approximately half a dozen fluorinated pyridinecarboxylic acids were derived from each starting material.
