Abstract
S,N-Heteroacene materials with fused multicyclic heteroaromatics have become increasingly attractive for organic optoelectronic device applications. In this work, the Cadogan ring-closure reaction between the benzene moiety of thieno[3,2-b]indole and 5,6-dinitrobenzo[c][1,2,5]thiadiazole was employed to prepare the novel decacyclic S,N-heteroacene 15,16-dibutyl-14,17-didodecyldithieno[2′′,3′′:2′,3′]indolo[6′,7′:4,5]pyrrolo[3,2-e:2′,3′-g][2,1,3]benzothiadiazole (TIP), C58H76N6S3. The conjugated backbone of TIP is extended in comparison with its octacyclic analogue as the central unit within Y6-type molecular acceptors, a family of overwhelming electron acceptors in polymer solar-cell research. The single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SC-XRD) characterization indicated the existence of π–π and C(sp
2)—H...π interactions among TIP molecules. The electrochemical and optical properties of TIP were also characterized. As a novel S,N-heteroacene building block, TIP is anticipated to be of potential use in the construction of promising electronic materials.

Abstract
Symmetric ladder-type oligo(p-aniline)s and poly(p-aniline)s were successfully synthesized by an intramolecular ring closure in a highly efficient SNAr reaction from oligo(p-phenylene)s and poly(p-phenylene)s with fluorine (F) and secondary amine (NH) groups. Unlike Cadogan ring closure, the newly designed cyclization reaction will not produce a mixture of symmetric and nonsymmetric structures. Moreover, the introduction of the F atom does not hinder Suzuki polymerization. The result indicates that preparing regular oligomers and polymers with a nitrogen bridge is possible.

Abstract
With the aim of generalizing the structure-properties relationship of bending heterocyclic molecules that undergo prominent photoinduced structural planarization (PISP), a series of new dihydrodibenzo[ac]phenazine derivatives in which one nitrogen atom is replaced by oxygen (PNO), sulfur (PNS), selenium (PNSe), or dimethylmethanediyl (PNC) was strategically designed and synthesized. Compounds PNO, PNS, and PNSe have significantly nonplanar geometries in the ground state, which undergo PISP to give a planarlike conformer and hence a large emission Stokes shift. A combination of femtosecond early relaxation dynamics and computational approaches established an R*→I* (intermediate)→P* sequential kinetic pattern for PNS and PNSe, whereas PNO undergoes R*→P* one-step kinetics. The polarization ability of the substituted heteroatoms, which is in the order O<S<Se, correlates with their increase in π conjugation, and hence the Stokes shift of the emission is in the order PNO<PNS<PNSe. Compound PNSe with the largest PISP barrier was shown to be a highly sensitive viscosity probe. Further evidence for heteroatom-harnessing PISP is given by PNC, in which the dimethylmethanediyl substituent lacks lone pair electrons for π extension, showing the normal emission of the bent structure. The results led to the conclusion that PISP is ubiquitous in dihydrodibenzo[ac]phenazines, for which the driving force is elongation of the π delocalization to gain stabilization in the excited state.

Abstract
Herein we report a significant, valuable extension of a recently implemented pyrrole benzannulation methodology that, employing versatile nitrodienes from our lab as useful C4 building blocks, led to indole derivatives characterized by unusual patterns of substitution. The 6-nitro-7-arylindoles resulting from suitably derivatized, non-symmetric dienes are of foreseeable synthetic interest in search for new polyheterocyclic systems. As an example, pyrrolocarbazoles with a rarely reported ring fusion were synthesized with the classical Cadogan protocol. Furthermore, the proven easy reducibility of the nitro group to amine will surely open the way to further interesting elaborations.

Abstract
N-Aryl amides are an important class of compounds in pharmaceutical and agrochemical chemistry. Rapid and low-cost synthesis of N-aryl amides remains in high demand. Herein, we disclose an operationally simple process to access N-aryl amides directly from readily available nitroarenes and carboxylic acids as coupling substrates. This method involves the in situ activation of carboxylic acids to acyloxyphosphonium salt for one-pot amidation, without the need for isolation of the corresponding synthetic intermediates. Furthermore, the ease of preparation and workup allow the quick and efficient synthesis of a wide range of N-aryl amides, including several amide-based druglike and agrochemical molecules.

Abstract
In this paper, we report the synthesis and characterization of new boron compounds derived from dithiooxamides. The compounds were characterized by NMR (1H and 13C), UV-vis, fluorescence spectroscopy, and high resolution mass spectrometry. The crystal structure of the mononuclear boron compound was determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The photophysical properties of the boron compounds were investigated, and we found moderate fluorescence emission (compound 2 ΦF: 4.07% and compound 4 ΦF: 2.89%). We also observed that the mononuclear complex presented greater stability. Compound 4 showed interesting luminescent properties; in solid state, it exhibited an increase in fluorescence by mechanostimuli by changing to a bright red color, and also in solution, it showed a decrease in fluorescence intensity when oxygen and air were supplied to the solution.

Abstract
Various pyrano[2,3-c]carbazoles are synthesized in high yields over five steps from commercially available resorcinol. Palladium-catalyzed arylation remains a key step in this novel strategy. The versatility of this protocol has been demonstrated by the first total synthesis of naturally occurring carbazole clauraila C.

Abstract
For the first time TFAA/H3PO4 has facilitated the direct and metal-free N-acylation of carbazoles leading to a number of N-acylated derivatives. Several of these compounds were found to be promising when tested for their anti-proliferative properties against oral cancer cell lines.

Abstract
This critical review is devoted to semiconducting and high spin polymers which are of great scientific interest in view of further development of the organic electronics and the emerging organic spintronic fields. Diversified synthetic strategies are discussed in detail leading to high molecular mass compounds showing appropriate redox (ionization potential (IP), electron affinity (EA)), electronic (charge carrier mobility, conductivity), optoelectronic (electroluminescence, photoconductivity) and magnetic (magnetization, ferromagnetic spin interactions) properties and used as active components of devices such as n- and p-channel field effect transistors, ambipolar light emitting transistors, light emitting diodes, photovoltaic cells, photodiodes, magnetic photoswitches, etc. Solution processing procedures developed with the goal of depositing highly ordered and oriented films of these polymers are also described. This is completed by the description of principal methods that are used for characterizing these macromolecular compounds both in solution and in the solid state. These involve various spectroscopic methods (UV-vis-NIR, UPS, pulse EPR), electrochemistry and spectroelectrochemistry, magnetic measurements (SQUID), and structural and morphological investigations (X-ray diffraction, STM, AFM). Finally, four classes of polymers are discussed in detail with special emphasis on the results obtained in the past three years: (i) high IP, (ii) high |EA|, (iii) low band gap and (iv) high spin ones.

Abstract
A novel series of ladder π-conjugated materials--sila-pentathienoacenes (Si-PTA) are synthesized and characterized. Crystal structures of the compounds show that the length of alkyl chains substituting on the thiophene ring has a significant influence on molecular packing. A densely packed structure with an interfacial distance of about 3.66 Å between the adjacent molecules is observed for the compound with shorter alkyl chains. However, a large interfacial distance (7.99 Å) is obtained for another compound because of the insertion of long alkyl chains between two planes. The investigation of the optical and electrochemical properties shows that the silylene bridge incorporated into the pentathienoacene framework exerts a clear effect on the electronic properties by the σ*-π* conjugation. Although only a slight enhancement is observed for the HOMO levels, with respect to that of pentathienoacene, the LUMO levels are significantly lowered. The observed electronic properties are consistent with the theoretical calculations.
