Abstract
The unprecedented Pd(II)-catalyzed cascade annulation of o-aminobenzoic acids with CO, amines, and aldehydes has been developed. This protocol provides an efficient and concise approach to selective construction of N3-substituted and N1,N3-disubstituted 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-ones mostly in moderate to excellent yields from simple and easily available starting materials under mild conditions featured with low cost, high step economy, broad substrate scope, and good product diversity.

Abstract
The palladium-catalyzed annulation of o-haloanilines with carbon monoxide (CO) and carbon dioxide (CO2), discovered by Wen-Zhen Zhang and co-workers, provides a convenient method to synthesize isatoic anhydrides. We explored the mechanism of this reaction, particularly the order of the reaction of CO and CO2 and the effect of the base, using density functional theory (DFT) calculations (ωB97X-D and M06). It was found that the base-assisted N-H bond activation through a concerted metalation-deprotonation (CMD) mechanism is a requisite for carboxylation, and the carboxylation proceeds via the nucleophilic attack of the (Pd)NH nitrogen on CO2. The results show that carbonylation occurs prior to carboxylation, because the facile and exergonic carbonylation greatly decreases the energies of the following intermediates and transition states. The mechanistic exploration of the alternative pathways (e.g., mono-carbonylation and carboxylation) and the comparison with the annulation mechanism of the o-iodobenzylamine substrate further demonstrate the perfect cooperation of CO and CO2 in constructing an anhydride moiety for o-haloanilines.

Abstract
Sodium hydride, potassium carbonate, and other bases are commonly used for N-alkylation of heterocyclic compounds. This report reveals the problems associated with N-benzylation of isatoic anhydride and identifies the plausible byproduct structures formed during the reaction. Subsequently, a novel breakthrough methodology has been developed using diisopropylamine and tetra butyl ammonium bromide. It gives excellent yields >88% in a short reaction time (2 h) at 30 °C with no byproducts, saving on processes as the pure product is directly obtained.

Abstract
The Pd/Cu cocatalyzed oxidative tandem C-H aminocarbonylation and dehydrogenation was developed, affording carbolinones with molecular oxygen as the terminal oxidant. Natural product strychnocarpine and its derivatives were prepared conveniently using this strategy.

Abstract
A practical and waste-free synthesis of isatoic anhydride was reported. The feature of this methodology is the simple isolation procedure by filtration, which facilitates the direct recovery and reuse of both organoselenium catalysts and solvents.
