Abstract
The phosphole ring is known as a useful building block for constructing π-conjugated organic materials. Here, we report ladder-type benzophospholo[3,2-b]indole (BPI) derivatives where the phosphole and the pyrrole rings are directly fused. Compounds 8a-8d with different aryl groups on the phosphorous center were successfully synthesized, and the solid-state structure of 8a was confirmed using X-ray crystallographic analysis. The BPIs exhibit relatively high fluorescence quantum yield (Φ 0.50-0.72) and demonstrate a larger Stokes shift compared with a series of benzophospholo[3,2-b]benzoheteroles. The benzophospholo[3,2-b]carbazole derivative 9, which possesses a benzene ring between the phosphole and the pyrrole rings of the BPI, was also synthesized, and its solid-state structure was confirmed using X-ray crystallographic analysis. Compound 9 was found to show a smaller Stokes shift compared with the BPI.

Abstract
A Cu(ii)-catalyzed, effective C-N coupling of 2-aminobenzothiazoles with boronic acids in acetonitrile under open vessel chemistry was achieved. This protocol demonstrates the N-arylation of 2-aminobenzothiazoles with a broad range of differently substituted phenylboronic acids at room temperature and accomplishes moderate to excellent yields of the desired products. Under the optimized condition, phenylboronic acids bearing halogen at the para and meta positions were found to be more fruitful.

Abstract
A convenient one-pot assembly of 4-(imidazol-1-yl)indole derivatives from easily accessible o-alkynylanilines and imidazoles has been developed. The sequential dearomatization and Ag(I)-catalyzed cyclization/Cs2CO3-mediated conjugate addition/aromatization cascade reactions exhibit high efficiency and excellent selectivity. The combined use of a silver(I) salt and cesium carbonate is significant for facilitating this domino transformation. The 4-(imidazol-1-yl)indole products could be easily converted to the corresponding derivatives and might be valuable in biological chemistry and medicinal science.

Abstract
A highly efficient and elegant diversity-oriented reaction paradigm employing atropaldehyde acetals as new dual C2/C3 synthons was developed under metal-free conditions using glycine esters as the counterpart reagents, which allowed rapid synthesis of two important nitrogen-containing heterocycles, pyrrolo[1,2-a]quinolines and 3,5-diarylpyridines. The divergent products are subtly controlled by the manipulation of the substitutional groups of glycine esters. When a N-arylglycine ester was used, pyrrolo[1,2-a]quinolines can be formed through cascade oxidative C-C cleavage/multiple cyclization. Instead, N-benzylglycine ester as the counter-reagent led to the synthesis of 3,5-diarylpyridines via two key C-N cleavages. Mild conditions, broad substrate scope, scalability and environmentally acceptable organic solvents rendered this method practical and attractive.

Abstract
AbstractCopper-mediated carbon–heteroatom bond-forming reactions involving a wide range of substrates have been in the spotlight for many organic chemists. This review highlights developments between 2010 and 2019 in both stoichiometric and catalytic copper-mediated reactions, and also examples of nickel-mediated reactions, under modified Chan–Lam cross-coupling conditions using various nucleophiles; examples include chemo- and regioselective N-arylations or O-arylations. The utilization of various nucleophiles as coupling partners together with reaction optimization (including the choice of copper source, ligands, base, and other additives), limitations, scope, and mechanisms are examined; these have benefitted the development of efficient and milder methods. The synthesis of medicinally valuable or pharmaceutically important nitrogen heterocycles, including isotope-labeled compounds, is also included. Chan–Lam coupling reaction can now form twelve different C–element bonds, making it one of the most diverse and mild reactions known in organic chemistry.1 Introduction2 Construction of C–N and C–O Bonds2.1 C–N Bond Formation2.1.1 Original Discovery via Stoichiometric Copper-Mediated C–N Bond Formation2.1.2 Copper-Catalyzed C–N Bond Formation2.1.3 Coupling with Azides, Sulfoximines, and Sulfonediimines as Nitrogen Nucleophiles2.1.4 Coupling with N,N-Dialkylhydroxylamines2.1.5 Enolate Coupling with sp3-Carbon Nucleophiles2.1.6 Nickel-Catalyzed Chan–Lam Coupling2.1.7 Coupling with Amino Acids2.1.8 Coupling with Alkylboron Reagents2.1.9 Coupling with Electron-Deficient Heteroarylamines2.1.10 Selective C–N Bond Formation for the Synthesis of Heterocycle-Containing Compounds2.1.11 Using Sulfonato-imino Copper(II) Complexes2.2 C–O Bond Formation2.2.1 Coupling with (Hetero)arylboron Reagents2.2.2 Coupling with Alkyl- and Alkenylboron Reagents3 C–Element (Element = S, P, C, F, Cl, Br, I, Se, Te, At) Bond Forma tion under Modified Chan–Lam Conditions4 Conclusions

Abstract
:
C-N bond formation reactions are the most important transformations in
(bio)organic chemistry because of the widespread occurrence of amines in pharmaceuticals,
natural products, and biologically active compounds. The Hofmann rearrangement is
a well-known method used for the preparation of primary amines from amides. But, the
traditional version of the Hofmann rearrangement often gave relatively poor yields due to
over-oxidation or due to the poor solubility of some amides in aqueous base, and created
an enormous amount of waste products. Developments over the last two decades, in particular,
have focused on refining both of these factors affecting the reaction. This review
covers both the description of recent advances (2000-2019) in the Hofmann
rearrangements and its applications in the synthesis of heterocycles, natural products and
complex molecules of biological interest. It is revealed that organo-catalytic systems especially hypervalent
iodine-based catalysts have been developed for the green and environmentally friendly conversion of
carboxamides to primary amines and carbamates.

Abstract
A versatile rhodium-catalyzed/copper-mediated C-H/C-C activation and cascade annulation reaction was described to form 2-arylindole derivatives. Highly selective C-C bond cleavage of γ-substituted tert-propargyl alcohols occurred, together with pyridine-directed ortho C(sp2)-H bond activation, affording a series of 2-arylindoles with yields up to 90%. Subsequent derivations were smoothly conducted to access polyfunctionalized 2-arylindoles, illustrating the potential applications of this method.

Abstract
Chan-Lam coupling is one of the most popular and easy methods to perform arylation of amines (N-arylations). This cross-coupling is generally performed by reacting aryl boronate derivatives with a variety of substrates involving nitrogen containing functional groups such as amines, amides, ureas, hydrazine, carbamates. This article summarizes the synthetic applications of this reaction and the efforts of scientists to develop novel and efficient methodologies for this reaction.

Abstract
Large aza-analogues of curved polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons with a double-helicene structure present unique features for molecular photonics. We present the preparation and characterization of three such structures. The synthesis of these heterocyclic nanographenes involves only a few high-yield steps that use readily available starting materials. X-ray analysis revealed that each of these new dyes has three conformational isomers: one diastereoisomer in a meso form and two enantiomers in twisted forms [(P,P)] and [(M,M)]. The low energy barriers between the conformers, however, prevent their separation by using chiral HPLC, and the NMR spectra show only one set of signals for each of these curved compounds. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations quantify the small energy difference and the small energy barriers between the chiral and meso forms, which fully supports the experimental results. Their optical absorption lacks any sensitivity to the solvent environment, whereas their fluorescence features exhibit pronounced solvatochromism. This rarely observed solvatofluorochromism of centrosymmetric molecules without either electron-withdrawing groups or -donating substituents was probed by using time-resolved spectroscopy. These studies suggest that, similar to 9,9'-bianthryl, the nonpolar locally excited state shows negligible solvatochromism, whereas the charge-transfer state is sensitive to solvent polarity.
