Highly selective, reversible water activation by P,N-cooperativity in pyridyl-functionalized phosphinines. Chem Sci 2024; 15:5496-5506. Abstract
Tetrapyridyl-functionalized phosphinines were prepared and structurally characterized. The donor-functionalized aromatic phosphorus heterocycles react highly selectively and even reversibly with water. Calculations reveal P,N-cooperativity for this process, with the flanking pyridyl groups serving to kinetically enhance the formal oxidative addition process of H2O to the low-coordinate phosphorus atom via H-bonding. Subsequent tautomerization forms 1,2-dihydrophosphinine derivatives, which can be quantitatively converted back to the phosphinine by applying vacuum, even at room temperature. This process can be repeated numerous times, without any sign of decomposition of the phosphinine. In the presence of CuI·SMe2, dimeric species of the type ([Cu2I2(phosphinine)]2) are formed, in which each phosphorus atom shows the less common μ2-bridging 2e--lone-pair-donation to two Cu(i)-centres. Our results demonstrate that fully unsaturated phosphorus heterocycles, containing reactive P[double bond, length as m-dash]C double bonds, are interesting candidates for the activation of E-H bonds, while the aromaticity of such compounds plays an appreciable role in the reversibility of the reaction, supported by NICS calculations.

Abstract
Over the course of the present studies, a series of optically pure phosphines functionalized by chiral aziridines was synthesized in reasonable/good chemical yields. Their catalytic activity was checked in the enantioselective Friedel–Crafts alkylation of indoles by β-nitrostyrene in the presence of a copper(I) trifluoromethanesulfonate benzene complex. The corresponding Friedel–Crafts products were achieved efficiently in terms of chemical yield and enantioselectivity (up to 85% in some cases).

Abstract
This review is devoted to the theoretic and synthetic aspects of asymmetric electrophilic substitution reactions at the stereogenic phosphorus center. The stereochemistry and mechanisms of electrophilic reactions are discussed—the substitution, addition and addition-elimination of many important reactions. The reactions of bimolecular electrophilic substitution SE2(P) proceed stereospecifically with the retention of absolute configuration at the phosphorus center, in contrast to the reactions of bimolecular nucleophilic substitution SN2(P), proceeding with inversion of absolute configuration. This conclusion was made based on stereochemical analysis of a wide range of trivalent phosphorus reactions with typical electrophiles and investigation of examples of a sizeable number of diverse compounds. The combination of stereospecific electrophilic reactions and stereoselective nucleophilic reactions is useful and promising for the further development of organophosphorus chemistry. The study of phosphoryl group transfer reactions is important for biological and molecular chemistry, as well as in studying mechanisms of chemical processes involving organophosphorus compounds. New versions of asymmetric electrophilic reactions applicable for the synthesis of enantiopure P-chiral secondary and tertiary phosphines are discussed.

Abstract
The P-heterocyclic field forms a special part of organophosphorus chemistry,
and is a special discipline within heterocyclic chemistry. The relevant results accumulated
in the group of the author of this minireview in last 5 years are summarized. After
surveying the conformational situation of cyclic phosphinates, their Microwave
(MW)-assisted direct esterification and the T3P®-promoted esterification are discussed.
The next chapters describe newer results regarding the interpretation and modelling of the
rate enhancing effect of MWs, and on an important, but somewhat neglected field, the
hydrolysis of phosphinates. New results on the ring enlargement of 5-membered
unsaturated P-heterocycles to 6-ring species, as well as on the synthesis of
7-phosphanorbornene derivatives, and their refunctionalization are also included. Novel
findings on the preparation of cyclic amides and imides are also explored. Last but not least, the user-friendly
deoxygenations of cyclic phosphine oxides elaborated by us are shown. The reader will be able to discover
green chemical considerations and accomplishments throughout the series of organophosphorus
transformations reviewed.

Abstract
The synthesis of stereodefined β-aminophosphines having both carbon- and phosphorus-based chirality centers is described. The method involves resolution of a mixture of β-aminophosphine oxide diastereomers accessed by ring-opening of an amino alcohol-derived cyclic sulfamidate. A stereospecific, borane-promoted reduction of β-aminophosphine oxides, which occurs under mild conditions and with inversion of configuration at phosphorus, is a key step in this process. The products obtained are new building blocks for the synthesis of P-chiral ligands and organocatalysts. In a proof-of-concept application in organocatalysis, the diastereomeric P-chiral β-aminophosphine-based bifunctional thioureas displayed significantly different activities in the Morita-Baylis-Hillman reaction of methyl acrylate with benzaldehyde derivatives.

Abstract
AbstractWe present recent advances in the understanding of the reduction of optically pure hydroxyalkylphosphinates and phosphine oxides, which represent key intermediates for the preparation of P-stereogenic ligands. Their reduction leads to P-chiral phosphinites and phosphines, respectively, and occurs stereospecifically with inversion of configuration using BH3·THF, which plays three roles: activating, reducing and protecting agent. The formation of by-products as hydroxyalkyl secondary phosphine–boranes has also been studied.
