Abstract
The efficient assembly of complex aromatic structures from simple acyclic building blocks is reported. An anion-cascade union of an enoate and a conjugated imine affords cyclohexenone products, which are readily aromatized to phenols. By engaging the intermediate cyclohexenones with Grignard reagents, a facile addition/elimination proceeds yielding chiral cyclohexadienes, which are then aromatized. In a complementary approach, the cyclohexenone products are converted into enol triflates, which provides a gateway to diverse aromatic architectures following cross-couplings and aromatization steps.

Abstract
The first Pd-catalyzed multicomponent reaction of aryl iodides, alkenyl bromides, and strained alkenes has been developed, which allowed us to synthesize a variety of multisubsituted olefins in yields of 45-96% with excellent stereoselectivity. The configuration of the product was controlled by the configuration of the alkenyl bromides. Moreover, this practical methodology employing readily available substrates was found to be tolerant to a wide range of functional groups. Fifty six examples of highly stereoselective tri- or tetrasubstituted olefins have been successfully synthesized via this methodology. Most of the synthesized tetrasubstituted olefins are good aggregation-induced emission (AIE) luminogens.

Abstract
The direct, regioselective, and stereoselective arylation of activated alkynes with aryl iodides using a nickel catalyst and manganese reductant is described. The reaction conditions are mild (40 °C in MeOH, no acid or base) and an intermediate organomanganese reagent is unlikely. Functional groups tolerated include halides and pseudohalides, free and protected anilines, and a benzyl alcohol. Other activated alkynes including an amide and a ketone also reacted to form arylated products in good yields.
