Abstract
Two new families of enantiomerically pure carbocyclic nucleoside analogues based on a cyclohexane moiety with five chiral centers and a fused cyclopropyl ring have been synthesized. A highly regio- and stereoselective synthetic approach for the modular construction of the functionalized bicyclo[4.1.0]heptyl azide intermediate 6 has been established. Key steps to achieve this asymmetric synthesis involved highly diastereoselective allylic oxidation and hydroboration reactions. The first family of compounds, 1a,b and 2, presents different natural nucleobases, whereas the second one 3a-e bears functionalized 1,2,3-triazoles. These derivatives have been tested as antiviral agents, and compound 3d has shown to display moderate activity against coxsackie B4 virus.

Enantiocontrolled Preparation of ϒ-Substituted Cyclohexenones: Synthesis and Kinase Activity Assays of Cyclopropyl-Fused Cyclohexane Nucleosides. Int J Mol Sci 2022; 23:ijms23179704. Abstract
The enantioselective preparation of the two isomers of 4-hydroxy-2-cyclohexanone derivatives 1a,b was achieved, starting from a common cyclohexenone, through asymmetric transfer hydrogenation (ATH) reactions using bifunctional ruthenium catalysts. From these versatile intermediates, a stereoselective route to a cytosine analogue built on a bicyclo [4.1.0]heptane scaffold is described. Nucleoside kinase activity assays with this cyclopropyl-fused cyclohexane nucleoside, together with other related nucleosides (2a–e), were performed, showing that thymine- and guanine- containing compounds have affinity for herpes simplex virus Type 1 (HSV-1) thymidine kinase (TK) but not for human cytosolic TK-1, thus pointing to their selectivity for herpetic TKs but not cellular TKs.

Abstract
A highly regio- and stereoselective route to d- and l-cyclohexenyl nucleosides has been devised, using the Tsuji-Trost reaction as the key step. Contrarily to the widely accepted mechanism (involving a net retention of configuration), the reaction proceeded in a highly stereoconvergent manner, providing cis nucleosides regardless of the relative configuration of the starting materials. DFT calculations confirmed the experimental data while suggesting the origin of the stereochemical reaction outcome.

Solvent-Free Mizoroki-Heck Reaction Applied to the Synthesis of Abscisic Acid and Some Derivatives. Catalysts 2018. Abstract
Abscisic acid (ABA) is a natural product, which is a well-known phytohormone. However, this molecule has recently exhibited interesting biological activities, emphasizing the need for a simple and direct access to new analogues based on the ABA framework. Our strategy relies on a pallado-catalyzed Mizoroki-Heck cross-coupling as key reaction performed in solvent and ligand free conditions. After a careful optimization, we succeeded in accessing various (E/Z)-dienes and (E/E/Z)-trienes in moderate to good yields without isomerization and applied the same approach to the synthesis of ABA in an environmentally sound manner.

Abstract
A facile and mild reduction procedure is reported for the preparation of chiral allylic and propargyl alcohols in high enantiomeric purity. Under optimized conditions, alkynyl and alkenyl ketones were reduced by TarB-NO2 and NaBH4 at 25 °C in 1 h to produce chiral propargyl and allylic alcohols with enantiomeric excesses and yields up to 99%. In the case of α,β-unsaturated alkenyl ketones, α-substituted cycloalkenones were reduced with up to 99% ee, while more substituted and acyclic derivatives exhibited lower induction. For α,β-ynones, it was found that highly branched aliphatic ynones were reduced with optimal induction up to 90% ee, while reduction of aromatic and linear aliphatic derivatives resulted in more modest enantioselectivity. Using the (L)-TarB-NO2 reagent derived from (L)-tartaric acid, we routinely obtained highly enantioenriched chiral allylic and propargyl alcohols with (R) configuration. Since previous models and a reduction of a saturated analogue predicted propargyl products of (S) configuration, a series of new mechanistic studies were conducted to determine the likely orientation of aromatic, alkenyl, and alkynyl ketones in the transition state.
