Abstract
Bromination is one of the most important transformations in organic synthesis and can be carried out using bromine and many other bromo compounds. Use of molecular bromine in organic synthesis is well-known. However, due to the hazardous nature of bromine, enormous growth has been witnessed in the past several decades for the development of solid bromine carriers. This review outlines the use of bromine and different bromo-organic compounds in organic synthesis. The applications of bromine, a total of 107 bromo-organic compounds, 11 other brominating agents, and a few natural bromine sources were incorporated. The scope of these reagents for various organic transformations such as bromination, cohalogenation, oxidation, cyclization, ring-opening reactions, substitution, rearrangement, hydrolysis, catalysis, etc. has been described briefly to highlight important aspects of the bromo-organic compounds in organic synthesis.

Abstract
Organolithium reagents undergo highly regio- and diastereoselective 1,4-addition to (S,S)-(+)-pseudoephedrine enamides furnishing the corresponding beta-alkyl-substituted adducts in excellent yields and diastereoselectivities. In addition, the intermediate lithium enolates generated after the conjugate addition step undergo a highly diastereoselective alkylation reaction, furnishing alpha,beta-dialkyl-substituted amides in high yields. The obtained adducts have been converted into chiral nonracemic beta-alkyl- and alpha,beta-dialkyl-substituted carboxylic acids and gamma-alkyl- and beta,gamma-dialkyl-substituted alcohols using very simple and high-yielding procedures.

Abstract
(+)-(R)-[2.2]Paracyclophane[4,5-d]-1,3-oxazol-2(3H)-one exhibiting planar chirality has been used as a chiral auxiliary in asymmetric Diels-Alder, Michael, and aldol reactions of alpha,beta-unsaturated carboxy and enolate imides, respectively. The endo-exo- and face-diastereoselectivity is good and is controlled by the spatial relationship between the prochiral center and the C9-C10 ethylene bridge of the [2.2]paracyclophane moiety. The chiral auxiliary is easily removed and quantitatively recovered.

Abstract
The 1,4-addition of magnesium divinylcuprate prepared from vinylmagnesium bromide and cuprous bromide to some 4-O-crotonyl derivatives of methyl alpha-D-glucopyranoside proceeds with a high level of diastereochemical induction, providing the adduct in good-to-excellent yields. Other organocuprates also serve as effective carbon nucleophiles for the 1,4-addition. Removal of the carbohydrate moiety from each adduct afforded a variety of beta-C-substituted butanoic esters in remarkable enantiomeric excess. The 1,4-addition of the same cuprate to some methyl alpha-D-manno- or alpha-D-galactopyranosidic substrates in which a crotonyl group was incorporated, each at 3-OH, was also investigated. The reverse pi-facial attack of the cuprate was observed when some D-manno-type substrates were subjected to 1,4-addition conditions similar to those used for the D-gluco-type substrates. Furthermore, some D-galacto-type substrates provided 1,4-adducts with higher diastereoselectivities.

Abstract
[reaction: see text] Chiral oxazolidin-2-ones are synthetically valuable as chiral auxiliaries, and many have pharmaceutically interesting biological activity. This communication focuses on a convenient, practical one-pot preparation of chiral 4,5-disubstituted oxazolidan-2-ones in good yield with high enantioselectivities, using a modified Sharpless asymmetric aminohydroxylation of beta-substituted styrene derivatives followed by base-mediated ring closure. This procedure has been demonstrated on both small and large scale, utilizing 1, 3-dichloro-5,5-dimethyl hydantoin as an easily handled, commercially available substitute for tert-butyl hypochlorite.
