Abstract
The asymmetric catalytic hydrogenation of olefins is one of the most widely studied and utilised transformations in asymmetric synthesis. This straightforward and atom-economical strategy can provide excellent enantioselectivity for a broad variety of substrates and is widely relevant for both industrial applications and academic research. In many instances the hydrogenation is stereospecific in the regard that the E-Z-geometry of the olefin governs the stereochemistry of the hydrogenation, producing an enantiodivergent outcome. Interestingly, the possibility to hydrogenate E- and Z-isomer mixtures to a single stereoisomer in an enantioconvergent manner has been reported. This avoids the need for synthesis of geometrically pure alkene starting materials and therefore constitutes a significant practical advantage. This review article aims to provide an overview of the different stereochemical outcomes in the hydrogenation of olefins. Although the field is well developed and selectivity models have been proposed for a number of catalytic systems, an organized collection of enantioconvergent results, as opposed to the more common enantiodivergent case, might promote new investigation into these phenomena.

Abstract
A stereocontrolled synthesis of β2,3-amino amides is reported. Innovation is encapsulated by the first use of nitroalkenes to achieve double umpolung in enantioselective β-amino amide synthesis. Step economy is also fulfilled by the use of Umpolung Amide Synthesis (UmAS) in the second step, delivering the amide product without intermediacy of a carboxylic acid or activated derivative. Molybdenum oxide-mediated hydride reduction provides the anti-β2,3-amino amide with high selectivity.

Abstract
A novel and straightforward synthesis of highly substituted isoquinoline-5,8-dione fused tricyclic pyrazoles is reported. The key step of the synthetic sequence is a regioselective, Ag2 CO3 promoted, 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of C-heteroaryl-N-aryl nitrilimines and substituted isoquinoline-5,8-diones. The broad functional group tolerability and mild reaction conditions were found to be suitable for the preparation of a small library of compounds. These scaffolds were designed to interact with multiple biological residues, and two of them, after brief synthetic elaborations, were analyzed by molecular docking studies as potential anticancer drugs. In vitro studies confirmed the potent anticancer effects, showing promising IC50 values as low as 2.5 μm against three different glioblastoma cell lines. Their cytotoxic activity was finally positively correlated to their ability to inhibit PI3K/mTOR kinases, which are responsible for the regulation of diverse cellular processes in human cancer cells.

Abstract
A valuable class of new heterocyclic and alicyclic prochiral α-aminomethylacrylates has been conveniently synthesized through a three-step transformation involving a Baylis-Hillman reaction, O-acetylation, and a subsequent allylic amination. The corresponding novel β(2)-amino acid derivatives were prepared with excellent enantioselectivities and high yields by catalytic asymmetric hydrogenation using the catalyst rhodium(Et-Duphos) (Et-Duphos = 2',5',2'',5''-tetraethyl-1,2-bis(phospholanyl)benzene)) under mild reaction conditions (up to 99 % ee and S/C = 1000). The influence of the substrate on the enantioselectivity and reactivity is investigated, and the most suitable substrate configuration for the highly efficient enantioselective hydrogenation of β-substituted α-aminomethylacrylates under the Rh-Duphos system is reported. The current protocol provides a very practical, facile, and scalable method for the preparation of heterocyclic and alicyclic β(2)-amino acids and their derivatives.

Abstract
H6P2W18O62·24H2O bulk- and silica-supported catalysts were found to be efficient and recyclable catalysts for the synthesis of a series of β-aminocrotonates using toluene as the solvent or under no solvent reaction conditions. Several substituted β-aminocrotonates can be prepared in very good yields and purity by direct reaction of amines and 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds in the presence of a catalytic amount of bulk- and silica-gel-supported H6P2W18O62·24H2O. The title compounds were prepared in very good yields using both methodologies, and no secondary products were detected. The procedure using no reaction solvent resulted in a clean and useful alternative, which has the advantages of a greener methodology with operative simplicity, the use of a reusable and noncorrosive solid catalyst, soft reaction conditions, low reaction times, and good yields.
