Abstract
A lithium titanate-decorated Ti3C2Tx MXene (LTO-MX) composite was synthesized through etching and alkali processes, and subsequently immobilized using polyacrylonitrile (PAN) polymer via a phase inversion method. In the batch study, the strontium adsorption behavior followed the Redlich-Peterson isotherm and the pseudo-second-order kinetic models. The maximum adsorption capacity for strontium reached 24.05 mg/g. Furthermore, a continuous fixed-bed column study was performed using the LTO-MX PAN beads to remove strontium from aqueous solutions. The dynamic behavior of column adsorption was examined under various operating parameters such as initial strontium concentration, flow rate, and bed height. Dynamic modeling was employed to describe adsorption breakthrough properties based on these experimental data. Both the Thomas and Yoon-Nelson models accurately simulated the breakthrough curves. The proposed mechanisms for strontium adsorption included encapsulation, electrostatic attraction, cation exchange, and surface complexation. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of LTO-MX PAN beads as adsorbents for the continuous removal of strontium from radioactive wastewater.

Abstract
Hydrophilic anti-fogging coatings have attracted considerable attention due to their ease of preparation and excellent fog resistance. In this study, a hydrophilic anti-fogging coating based on the random copolymer p(AA-co-SAS) was prepared using acrylic acid (AA) and sodium allylsulfonate (SAS) as monomers through radiation polymerization. The introduction of SAS successfully transformed the random copolymer from a gel state into a film-forming polymer solution. The presence of AA structural units in p(AA-co-SAS) improved the film-forming properties of the polymer solution. Additionally, there was a positive correlation between the proportion of SAS structural units in the random copolymer and the scratch hardness and wetting properties of the coating. After coating polycarbonate (PC) sheets, the surface hydrophilicity was significantly enhanced, with the contact angle of PC-AA10/SAS5 decreasing from 100.1° to 18.8° within 50 seconds. The outstanding wetting properties endowed the coating with exceptional anti-fogging and frost-resisting performance. It exhibited optimal transparency under both testing conditions and demonstrated good stability during cyclic testing. Tape adhesion tests indicated that the adhesion between the coating and PC reached a 5B level. When AA10/SAS5 was applied to PET film, glass, and PMMA goggles, all samples showed excellent anti-fog performance. Even after being naturally placed for one year under ambient conditions, the PMMA goggles still maintained good performance in the anti-fog and frost resistance tests. The remarkable comprehensive properties of the polymer coating based on p(AA-co-SAS) suggest enormous potential applications in industries such as packaging, healthcare, and optical equipment.

Abstract
The recovery of high-purity and high-value FePO4 raw materials from wastewater has great prospects in LiFePO4 battery industry due to the huge demand for new energy vehicle. However, the conventional in-situ FePO4 precipitation, as well as ex-situ PO43- adsorption-alkali regeneration, was incapable of efficiently obtaining high-purity products. To solve these problems, a dual-cycle regeneration method of Fe-NH2-polyacrylonitrile (PAN) adsorbent and H2SO4 desorbing solution was proposed to ex-situ FePO4 recovery from wastewater for Li-battery application. Benefitted from coordination interaction and electrostatic attraction, the maximum PO43- adsorption capacity of Fe-NH2-PAN reached 73.1 ± 0.4 mg/g. The average PO43- removal rate of continuous flow devices were 88.5% and 91.3% when treating low-P-concentration (0.22 mg/L) municipal wastewater (MW) and high-P-concentration (48.9 mg/L) slaughterhouse wastewater (SW) respectively. Furthermore, high-purity FePO4 analyzed by XRD spectra was achieved from the desorption solution at pH ∼1.6, resulting in the ultrahigh P recovery efficiencies of 91.4 ± 3.2%-96.3 ± 2.5% for SW and 82.7 ± 3.5% for MW. Besides, the LiFePO4/C electrodes made of recycled FePO4 exhibited a better discharge capacity (37.3 - 55.8 mAh/g) than that of commercial FePO4 agent (32.2 - 35.1 mAh/g) from 80 to 132 cycles, which showed the promising feasibility of recovering FePO4 from wastewater for Li-battery application.

Abstract
A two-phase anion-exchange membrane was prepared from quaternized chitosan (QCS) integrated with an electrospun polyacrylonitrile (PAN) scaffold by spin coating. To synthesize QCS, glycidyltrimethylammonium chloride in various amounts was introduced into the structure of CS. The characterization of the cast cross-linked QCS (CQCS) membranes by impedance spectroscopy revealed the ionic conductivity (IC) in the range of 2.8 × 10-4 to 8.2 × 10-4 S cm-1 and the degree of quaternization (DQ) of 26.4-51.0%, where the CQCS film with the DQ of 51.0% showed excellent performance. When CQCS was reinforced with a PAN fiber mat, the newly developed composite membrane demonstrated the highest IC of 34 × 10-4 S cm-1 at 80 °C, low swelling, and an almost eightfold increase in tensile strength at a fully hydrated state compared to pristine materials. Moreover, the CQCS/PAN membrane was chemically stable and revealed increasing hydroxide transport during 1 month immersion in alkaline media.

Abstract
The review summarizes recent advances in the production of carbon fiber precursors based on melt-spun acrylonitrile copolymers. Approaches to decrease the melting point of polyacrylonitrile and acrylonitrile copolymers are analyzed, including copolymerization with inert comonomers, plasticization by various solvents and additives, among them the eco-friendly ways to use the carbon dioxide and ionic liquids. The methods for preliminary modification of precursors that provides the thermal oxidative stabilization of the fibers without their melting and the reduction in the stabilization duration without the loss of the mechanical characteristics of the fibers are discussed. Special attention is paid to different ways of crosslinking by irradiation with different sources. Examples of the carbon fibers preparation from melt-processable acrylonitrile copolymers are considered in detail. A patent search was carried out and the information on the methods for producing carbon fibers from precursors based on melt-spun acrylonitrile copolymers are summarized.

Abstract
This research aims to modify ultrafine fully vulcanized powdered natural rubber (UFPNR) prepared by emulsion graft-copolymerization with styrene (St) and acrylonitrile (AN) monomers onto deproteinized natural rubber (DPNR). The effects of monomers content and St/AN weight ratio on grafting efficiency and thermal stability of the developed DPNR-g-(PS-co-PAN) were investigated. The results showed that grafting efficiency was enhanced up to 86% with monomers content 15 phr and weight ratio St:AN 80:20. The obtained DPNR-g-(PS-co-PAN) was radiated by an electron beam at various doses, followed by a spray drying process to produce UFPNR. The obtained modified UFPNR particles irradiated at dose up to 300 kGy were relatively spherical with a particle size of approximately 4.4 µm. Furthermore, the degradation temperature of 5wt% loss (Td5) of UFPNR was found in the range of 349-356 °C. The results revealed that the modified UFPNR is suitable as a toughening filler for a broader spectrum of polymers.

Abstract
A series of biquaternary ammonium-functionalized fibers were developed to efficiently realize selective removal of phenolic compounds from water. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy were employed to determine the successful preparation of functionalized fibers. Scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns, and elemental analysis were used to analyze the microstructure and composition. First, the adsorption result shows that a fiber with a three-carbon alkyl chain (PANBQAS-3F) has the maximum adsorption capacity for 2,4-dinitrophenol (2,4-DNP) (406 mg g-1). Electrostatic attraction and π-π interaction are the main forces in adsorption. The adsorption kinetics studies display that PANBQAS-3F can rapidly adsorb 2,4-DNP in 10 min and achieve equilibrium within 20 min. The adsorption process of 2,4-DNP by PANBQAS-3F follows the Langmuir model, demonstrating that the process is more consistent with monolayer adsorption. What is more, the adsorbent PANBQAS-3F can be reused after 10 adsorption/desorption cycles and still maintains an excellent removal rate (99%). Otherwise, PANBQAS-3F was used in a continuous flow process and exhibited a removal rate of more than 96%, which certifies that PANBQAS-3F is an excellent adsorbent and can be utilized in practice.

Abstract
In the present study, the synthesis of titanium nitride (TiN) by carbothermal reduction nitridation (CRN) reaction using nanocomposites made of mesoporous TiO2/acrylonitrile with different content of inorganic phase were explored. The choice of hybrid nanocomposite as precursor for the synthesis of TiN was made due to the possibility of having an intimate interface between the organic and inorganic phases in the mixture that can favours CRN reaction. Subsequently, the hybrid composites have been subjected to four-step thermal treatments at 290 °C, 550 °C, 1000 °C and 1400 °C under nitrogen atmosphere. The XRD results after thermal treatment at 1000 °C under nitrogen flow show the coexistence of two crystalline phases of TiO2, i.e. anatase and rutile, as well as TiN phase, together with the detection of amorphous carbon that proved the initiation of CRN reaction. Furthermore, the observations based on XRD patterns of samples thermally treated at 1400 °C in nitrogen atmosphere were in agreement with SEM analysis, that shows the formation of TiN by CRN reaction via hybrid nanocomposites mesoporous TiO2/acrylonitrile.

Abstract
In this work, we report the preparation of polyacrylonitrile (PAN)-based activated carbon nanofibers composited with different concentrations of reduced graphene oxide (rGO/ACNF) (1%, 5%, and 10% relative to PAN weight) by a simple electrospinning method. The electrospun nanofibers (NFs) were carbonized and physically activated to obtain activated carbon nanofibers (ACNFs). Texture, surface and elemental properties of the pristine ACNFs and composites were characterized using various techniques. In comparison to pristine ACNF, the incorporation of rGO led to changes in surface and textural characteristics such as specific surface area (SBET), total pore volume (Vtotal), and micropore volume (Vmicro) of 373 m2/g, 0.22 cm3/g, and 0.15 cm3/g, respectively, which is much higher than the pristine ACNFs (e.g., SBET = 139 m2/g). The structural and morphological properties of the pristine ACNFs and their composites were studied by Raman spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD), and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) respectively. Carbon dioxide (CO2) adsorption on the pristine ACNFs and rGO/ACNF composites was evaluated at different pressures (5, 10, and 15 bars) based on static volumetric adsorption. At 15 bar, the composite with 10% of rGO (rGO/ACNF0.1) that had the highest SBET, Vtotal, and Vmicro, as confirmed with BET model, exhibited the highest CO2 uptake of 58 mmol/g. These results point out that both surface and texture have a strong influence on the performance of CO2 adsorption. Interestingly, at p < 10 bar, the adsorption process of CO2 was found to be quite well fitted by pseudo-second order model (i.e., the chemisorption), whilst at 15 bar, physisorption prevailed, which was explained by the pseudo-first order model.

Abstract
Amino-functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotube (amino-CNT)/polyacrylonitrile (PAN) microspheres with diameter of about 300⁻400 nm were prepared by in situ polymerization under aqueous solution. The morphology, crystal structure, and thermal properties of amino-CNTs on a PAN homopolymer were investigated by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectra, X-ray diffraction, and differential scanning calorimetry. The results showed that the amino-CNTs had a significant influence on the morphology of microspheres, and the PAN matrix were grafted onto the surface of amino-CNTs with interfacial bonding between them. The XRD studies showed that the crystal size of amino-CNT/PAN microspheres with lower crystallinity was bigger than in the control PAN homopolymer. The analysis of thermal properties indicated that the amino-CNT/PAN microspheres with lower glass transition temperature had a lower initial temperature and velocity of evolving heat during the exothermic processing as compared with the PAN homopolymer. These results suggested that the incorporation of amino-CNTs into the PAN homopolymer matrix was beneficial for controlling the heat released during the stabilization processing.

Abstract
The polyacrylonitrile/polymethyl-methacrylate (PMMA/PAN) porous fibers, core-shell hollow fibers, and porous thin films are prepared by coaxial electrospinning, single electrospinning, and spin-coating technologies, respectively. The different morphologies arising from different processes display great influences on their thermal and crystalline properties. The adding of PMMA causes porous structure due to the microphase-separation structure of immiscible PMMA and PAN phases. The lower weight loss, higher degradation temperature, and glass-transition temperatures of porous thin films than those of porous fibers and core-shell hollow fibers are obtained, evidencing that the polymer morphologies produced from the different process can efficiently influence their physical properties. The orthorhombic structure of PAN crystals are found in the PMMA/PAN porous thin films, but the rotational disorder PAN crystals due to intermolecular packing are observed in the PMMA/PAN porous fibers and core-shell hollow fibers, indicating that different processes cause different types of PAN crystals.

Abstract
An electron beam was irradiated on polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fibers prior to thermal stabilization. The electron-beam irradiation effectively shortened the thermal stabilization process by one fourth compared with the conventional thermal stabilization process. A comprehensive mechanistic study was conducted regarding this shortening of the thermal stabilization by electron-beam irradiation. Various species of chain radicals were produced in PAN fibers by electron-beam irradiation and existed for a relatively long duration, as observed by electron spin resonance spectroscopy. Subsequently, these radicals were gradually oxidized to peroxy radicals in the presence of oxygen under storage or heating. We found that these peroxy radicals (CO) enabled such an effective shortcut of thermal stabilization by acting as intermolecular cross-linking and partial aromatization points in the low temperature range (100-130 °C) and as earlier initiation seeds of successive cyclization reactions in the next temperature range (>130-140 °C) of thermal stabilization. Finally, even at a low irradiation dose (200 kGy), followed by a short heat treatment (230 °C for 30 min), the PAN fibers were sufficiently stabilized to produce carbon fibers with tensile strength and modulus of 2.3 and 216 GPa, respectively, after carbonization.

Abstract
A carboxymethyl-dithiocarbamate immobilized polyacrylonitrile fiber colorimetric sensor has been synthesized. This fiber sensor exhibits excellent selectivity and sensitivity for Ag(+) in aqueous solution with a remarkable color change from light pink to red-brown over a wide pH range of 2-12. The sensor responds selectively to Ag(+) in the presence of other ions, including Mg(2+), Al(3+), Ca(2+), Cr(3+), Mn(2+), Co(2+), Ni(2+), Cu(2+), Zn(2+), Cd(2+), Hg(2+) and Pb(2+). The colorimetric sensor has an extremely fast response time (10s) and a low visual limit of detection (5.53×10(-12) mol/L). The fiber sensor also undergoes an obvious color change in the presence of Ag(+) solutions containing EDTA, NaCl or NaBr. Density functional theory optimization reveals that the sensor and Ag(+) interact via a seven-membered ring complexation mechanism.

Abstract
Water and soil pollution by organic pollutants from petrochemical plants has become one of the major environmental problems in recent years. Lipophilic polyelectrolyte gels with ionic groups dissociable in nonpolar organic solvents show an enhanced swelling ability in a corresponding media attributed to the electrostatic repulsion and osmotic pressure provided by dissociated ionic groups. Here, we synthesized new lipophilic polyelectrolyte gels based on an easily available electrolyte monomer, methacryloxyethyl dimethyloctane ammonium trifluoromethanesulfonimide (MODAT), and a lipophilic neutral monomer, dodecyl acrylate by radiation-induced polymerization and cross-linking. The resultant lipophilic polyelectrolyte gels could absorb plenty of organic solvents with dielectric constants lower than 20 and exhibited a high absorbing ability at a wide range of temperatures (0-40 °C). The maximum swelling degree could reach as high as 200 g/g in some media, such as 1,2-dichloroethane (199.4 g/g) and dichloromethane (204 g/g), which was much higher than that of the nonionic gel without the addition of MODAT. Moreover, the resultant lipophilic polyelectrolyte gels could release most of the absorbed solvents within several hours and then be reused. It is expected that this new type of lipophilic polyelectrolyte gels may be a suitable candidate as organic pollutant absorbents.

Abstract
A new wearable colorimetric fiber for heavy metal ion detection and adsorption has been synthesized by first aminating a commercially available polyacrylonitrile fiber with ethylenediamine and then covalently immobilizing 4-(2-pyridylazo)-1,3-benzenediol (PAR) on the modified fiber through a Mannich reaction. The fiber was characterized by X-ray powder diffraction spectra (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), FTIR and UV-vis spectroscopy, and its acid exchange capacity, colorimetric properties, response speed, selectivity, reusability, photostability and adsorption capacity were investigated. In neutral aqueous solutions, the PAR immobilized fiber responds selectively to heavy metal ions, such as Hg(2+), Pb(2+), Cd(2+), Zn(2+), Ni(2+) and Cu(2+) with a color change from red-orange to dark-brown. Its visual detection limit for Pb(2+) is 1 x 10(-6)mol/L. Moreover, the selectivity increases with a decrease in pH, i.e. at pH 3.0, it shows a color change only for Hg(2+) and Cu(2+). This fiber also shows excellent reusability (>50 times), high photostability (>30 days under direct exposure to sunlight) and high adsorption capacity for Hg(2+) (0.74 mmol/g).
