Abstract
Cyclodextrins (CDs) play an important role in self-assembly systems of amphiphiles. The structure of CDs provides distinguished physicochemical properties, including the ability to form host-guest complexes. The complexation affects the properties of guest molecules and can produce supramolecular aggregates with desirable characteristics for fundamental and practical applications. Surfactants are particularly attractive host molecules due to their wide variety, availability, responsiveness to different stimuli, and high relevance in different fields, e.g. medical, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and food industries. The tendency of organization in higher-order supramolecular aggregates arises the interest in applying such versatile complexes in the development of novel materials. In this review, we provide a comprehensive overview of the thermodynamics aspects of surfactants and CDs inclusion complexes formation in aqueous environment, emphasizing the assessment of the interactions, thermodynamic driving forces, and structural aspects. Also, the most common analytical techniques used to gather deep insight into the aspects of CDs complexes are discussed and the perspectives for the surfactant-cyclodextrin complexes are pointed out.

Abstract
The adamantane moiety is widely applied in design and synthesis of new drug delivery systems and in surface recognition studies. This review focuses on liposomes, cyclodextrins, and dendrimers based on or incorporating adamantane derivatives. Our recent concept of adamantane as an anchor in the lipid bilayer of liposomes has promising applications in the field of targeted drug delivery and surface recognition. The results reported here encourage the development of novel adamantane-based structures and self-assembled supramolecular systems for basic chemical investigations as well as for biomedical application.

Abstract
The present contribution demonstrates the photophysics of a prospective cancer cell photosensitizer Harmane (HM) belonging to the family of β-carboline in mixed microheterogeneous environments of β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) and surfactants having varying surface charges using steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence spectroscopic techniques. The remarkable modulations in prototropic activities of the micelle-bound drug in the presence of β-CD evinces for disruption of the micellar structural integrity by β-CD. The results are meticulously discussed in relevance to the effect of a potential drug delivery vehicle (CD) on the membrane-mimetic micellar system. Further, application of an extrinsic fluorescence probe for monitoring such interactions is fraught by the possibilities of no less than three equilibria that can operate simultaneously viz., (i) surfactant-cyclodextrin, (ii) surfactant-fluorophore and (iii) cyclodextrin-fluorophore. This aspect highlights the enormous importance of the issue of suitability of the fluorescence probe to study such complicated systems and interaction phenomena. Also the varying interaction scenario of β-CD with the nature of the surfactant highlights the importance of precise knowledge of the strength and locus of drug binding in delineating such complex interactions. The results of the present investigation advocate for the potential applicability of the drug (HM) itself as a fluorescence reporter in study of such complex microheterogeneous interactions.

Abstract
The solubility of β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) in ionic liquids (ILs) and the activity coefficients at infinite dilution (γ13(∞)) of more than 20 solutes (alkanes, aromatic hydrocarbons, alcohols) were measured in four chosen ionic liquids, their mixtures with β-CD, and in the β-CD at high temperatures from 338 to 398 K using the inverse gas chromatography. The intermolecular interactions, inclusion complexes and the possible increasing of the solubility of β-CD in water using the IL are presented. The solubility of β-CD in ten chosen hydrophobic ILs at the temperature T = 423 K was detected. The solid-liquid phase diagrams (SLE) of {IL (1) + β-CD (2)} binary systems at the high mole fraction of the IL were measured for three systems (1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride, [EMIM][Cl], 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium bromide, [EMIM][Br]; and for 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride, [BMIM][Cl]). The eutectic points were determined at the high IL concentration for all binary systems. The intermolecular interaction and the possibility of inclusion complexes of the IL and/or solvents with β-CD were discussed. The infrared spectroscopy, IR was used for the description of the intermolecular interactions in the (β-CD + IL) systems. It was shown via the activity coefficients at infinite dilution results that the inclusion complexes are dependent on the temperature. The addition of β-CD to the IL does not improve the selectivity of the separation of the aliphatics from aromatics.

Abstract
The interactions of bovine serum albumin (BSA) with ionic surfactants (sodium dodecyl sulfate, SDS, and cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, CTAB) and β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) have been investigated by electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and circular dichroism measurements. The spin probe selected to report on the interaction of albumin with surfactants and/or β-CD was 4-N,N-dimethyl hexadecyl ammonium-2,2,6,6-tetramethylpiperidine-1-oxyl iodide (CAT16), on account of (a) its balance between electrostatic and hydrophobic character and (b) the ability of BSA to form complexes with various organic molecules. The distribution of the spin probe among different environments in solutions containing only BSA was confirmed by the existence of two components in the EPR spectra: one revealing a restricted mobility of the spin probe, attributed to the protein-spin probe complex, and another one showing free movement, attributed to the spin probe in solution. The presence of surfactants and/or β-CD alters the distribution of CAT16 between various compartments in each system. Formation of protein aggregates as a result of thermal denaturation was evidenced by the appearance of an immobilized component in the EPR spectrum. This component is not present in the EPR spectra of CAT16 in protein/surfactant or protein/cyclodextrin solutions. Circular dichroism spectra of BSA provided information about changes in the secondary structure of the protein induced by the presence of surfactants and/or cyclodextrin in solution. The results demonstrate that β-CD hinders the interaction between the employed surfactants and the protein. The cationic surfactant (CTAB) induces changes in protein conformation at a lower concentration compared to the anionic surfactant (SDS).
