Abstract
6-Bromopyridine-2-carbaldehyde (abbreviated as BPCA) is used both as a building block in supramolecular chemistry and as a ligand for transition metal catalysts and luminescent complexes. In this study, the structure and vibrational spectra of BPCA were investigated in both the room temperature neat crystalline phase and for the compound isolated in cryogenic Ar, Kr and Xe matrices. The experimental studies were complemented by quantum chemical DFT(B3LYP)/6-311++G(d,p) calculations. For the crystalline compound, infrared and Raman spectra were obtained and interpreted. Comparison of the obtained infrared spectrum of the crystal with those obtained for the isolated molecules of BPCA in the studied cryomatrices helped to conclude that the intermolecular interactions in the crystal do not significantly perturb the intramolecular vibrational potential. Structural analysis further supports the existence of weak coupling between the intermolecular interactions and the structure of the constituting molecular units in crystalline state. The intermolecular interactions in the BPCA crystal were also evaluated by means of Hirshfeld analysis, which revealed that the most important interactions are weak and of the H…N, H…O, H…H, H…Br and Br…Br types. The conformer of BPCA present in the crystal was found to correspond to the most stable form of the isolated molecule (trans), which bears stabilizing C-H…O=C and C(=O)H…N interactions. This conformer was shown to be the single conformer present in the as-deposited cryogenic matrices prepared from the room temperature gaseous compound. Broadband UV irradiation of matrix-isolated BPCA (λ ≥ 235 nm) resulted in the conversion of the trans conformer into the higher-energy cis conformer, where repulsive C-H…H-C(=O) and C=OLP…LPN (where LP designates a lone electron pair) interactions are present, and decarbonylation of the compound with formation of 2-bromopyridine (plus CO). The decarbonylation reaction was found to be more efficient in the more polarizable Xe matrix, indicating stabilization of the radicals initially formed upon breaking of the C-C(HO) and C-H (aldehyde) bonds in this medium, and testifying the occurrence of the decarbonylation reaction with involvement of radical species. TD-DFT calculations were used to access the nature of the excited states associated with the observed UV-induced reactions. As a whole, this study provides fundamental data to understand the physicochemical behavior of the compound, bridging the properties of the isolated molecule to those of the neat crystalline com-pound. Such information is of fundamental importance for the understanding of the role of BPCA in supramolecular chemistry and to potentiate its applications in synthesis and as a ligand for transition metal catalysts and luminescent complexes.

Abstract
The thermal degradation behavior of cyanidin-3-O-gluoside (Cy3G) in nitrogen and air was studied using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), thermogravimetry-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (TG-FTIR) and pyrolysis-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (Py-GCMS). The results show that the thermal degradation of Cy3G in nitrogen and in air can be divided into three steps. The total degradation rate was 63.09% in nitrogen and 99.42% in air, and the total activation energy (Ea) was 65.85 and 80.98 kJ·mol-1, respectively. The TG-FTIR analysis showed that Cy3G is significantly decomposed at 200-300 °C. The Py-GCMS analysis shows that the first step in the thermal degradation of Cy3G in nitrogen is the cleavage of glycosidic bonds to give cyanidin and glucoside. The glucoside and cyanidin then degrade further to give mainly low molecular weight compounds, together with furan derivatives, pyran derivatives and aromatic compounds. The phenols and furans found in the pyrolysis products are known to have a degree of toxicity.

Abstract
UV-C treatment is a commonly known technique to inactivate microorganisms. The objective of this work was to investigate the impact of UV-C treatment of grape must on the sensory characteristics of the resulting wine and on the profile of volatile compounds of grape must and wine. Different UV-C doses were applied to Riesling must and compared with thermal pasteurization. The sensory off-flavor "ATA" and a content of 0.5 µg/L 2-aminoacetophenone were determined in the grape must and in the resulting wine after UV-C treatment with a high dose of 21 kJ/L. Sensory off-flavors did neither occur after thermal pasteurization nor after UV-C treatment with a dose of 2 kJ/L, which is sufficient for the inactivation of microorganisms. Minor changes in the volatiles' profiles of grape must and wine, involving e.g. terpenes and C13-norisoprenoids, occurred in musts treated with thermal pasteurization as well as with a UV-C dose of 2 kJ/L.

Abstract
The interest in investigating the structure and reactivity of halogen- and methoxy-substituted benzaldehydes has been motivated by the practical relevance of these substances in various fields, from the fragrance industry to agrochemicals and drug manufacturing. In this study, 3-chloro-4-methoxybenzaldehyde (3CMBA) was investigated by matrix isolation infrared spectroscopy and quantum chemistry calculations. Molecules of the compound were isolated in cryogenic argon and xenon matrices and the conformational composition of the as-deposited materials characterized by infrared spectroscopy. Two nearly degenerated conformers, differing by the orientation of the aldehyde group relatively to the chlorine ring substituent, were successfully trapped into the matrices from the room temperature vapor of the compound, the cis conformer being slightly higher in energy than the trans form. Both conformers belong to the Cs point group and have the methoxy group pointing to the opposite direction of the chlorine atom. The as-deposited matrices of 3CMBA were then irradiated by tunable monochromatic UV-light. Irradiation within the 302-299 nm range induced conversion of the cis into the trans conformer, while irradiation in the 298-296 nm range induced the inverse photoisomerization. Irradiation at higher energy (250 nm) was found to lead to decarbonylation of both conformers. Very interestingly, the observed UV-induced processes were found to take place in an essentially selective way as a function of the irradiation wavelength. In particular, the conformational isomerization reactions of 3CMBA occur with only a residual number of molecules undergoing simultaneous decarbonylation.

Abstract
Conformational changes of the monomeric safrole (5-(2-propenyl)-1,3-benzodioxole) isolated in low temperature xenon matrices were induced thermally or using narrow-band UV radiation. The rotation of the allyl group taking place in the studied matrices was followed by FTIR spectroscopy. Safrole represents a challenging example of a flexible molecule highlighting the importance of dispersion interactions and anharmonic effects in the structural, spectroscopic and energetic analysis. Structures of the safrole conformers, their energetics and infrared spectra have been calculated using various computational methods ranging from density functional theory (DFT) to coupled cluster (CC). The best theoretical results were obtained by integrating CCSD(T) energies including complete basis set extrapolation and core-valence corrections with B2PLYP-D3 equilibrium structures and hybrid B2PLYP-D3/B3LYP-D3 anharmonic computations for IR spectra and thermodynamics.

Abstract
β-aminoisobutyric acid (BAIBA) has been studied in isolation conditions: in the gas phase and trapped into a cryogenic N2 matrix. A solid sample of the compound was vaporized by laser ablation and investigated through their rotational spectra in a supersonic expansion using two different spectroscopic techniques: broadband chirped pulse Fourier transform microwave spectroscopy and conventional molecular beam Fourier transform microwave spectroscopy. Four conformers with structures of two types could be successfully identified by comparison of the experimental rotational and (14)N nuclear quadruple coupling constants with those predicted theoretically: type A, bearing an OH⋯N intramolecular hydrogen bond and its carboxylic group in the trans geometry (H-O-C=O dihedral ∼180°), and type B, having an NH⋯O bond and the cis arrangement of the carboxylic group. These two types of conformers could also be trapped from the gas phase into a cryogenic N2 matrix and probed by Fourier transform infrared (IR) spectroscopy. In situ irradiation of BAIBA isolated in N2 matrix of type B conformers using near-IR radiation tuned at the frequency of the O-H stretching 1st overtone (∼6930 cm(-1)) of these forms allowed to selectively convert them into type A conformers and into a new type of conformers of higher energy (type D) bearing an NH⋯O=C bond and a O-H "free" trans carboxylic group.

Abstract
In this work, a combined matrix isolation FTIR and theoretical DFT(B3LYP)/6-311++G(d,p) study of 2-furaldehyde dimethylhydrazone (2FDH) was performed. According to calculations, two E and two Z conformers exist, the E forms having considerably lower energy than the Z forms. The absence of relevant sterical hindrance between the two substituents around the CN bond (dimethylamino and 2-furyl) in the E structures and an extended π-p electron delocalization in the hydrazone moiety determines the higher stability of these species relatively to the Z structures. In the lowest energy form (E-AG) the O-C-CN and CN-N-Lp (Lp=lone electron pair of amine nitrogen atom) dihedral angles are predicted by the calculations to be -177.2° and 93.7°, respectively. The weak (NC)-H⋯O hydrogen bond type interaction (H⋯O distance: 252.2 pm) in form E-AG, together with the absence in this form of the destabilizing interaction between the lone electron pairs of the oxygen and nitrogen atoms existing in E-SG, explains its lower energy in comparison with this latter form. Both E-AG and E-SG conformers could be trapped from room temperature gas phase in low temperature argon and xenon matrices. The high E-SG→E-AG energy barrier (>25 kJ mol(-1)) explains that, upon increasing the temperature of the matrices no conformational isomerization could be observed. After irradiation of 2FDH with UV-light at λ>328 and λ>234 nm, two different photochemistries were observed. Irradiation at lower energy (λ>328nm) induced the E-AG→E-SG isomerization. Further irradiation at higher energy (λ>234 nm) led to a quick consumption of 2FDH and production of furan and dimethylisocyanide.
