Matrix infrared spectra and density functional calculations for new iso-halomethanes: CHCl2-Cl, CHFCl-Cl, CFCl2-Cl, CHBr2-Br, and CBr3-Br in solid argon

Formulating Local Environment of Oxygen Mitigates Voltage Hysteresis in Li-Rich Materials

Li-rich cathode materials have emerged as one of the most prospective options for Li-ion batteries owing to their remarkable energy density (>900 Wh kg-1). However, voltage hysteresis during charge and discharge process lowers the energy conversion efficiency, which hinders their application in practical devices. Herein, the fundamental reason for voltage hysteresis through investigating the O redox behavior under different (de)lithiation states is unveiled and it is successfully addressed by formulating the local environment of O2-. In Li-rich Mn-based materials, it is confirmed that there exists reaction activity of oxygen ions at low discharge voltage (<3.6 V) in the presence of TM-TM-Li ordered arrangement, generating massive amount of voltage hysteresis and resulting in a decreased energy efficiency (80.95%). Moreover, in the case where Li 2b sites are numerously occupied by TM ions, the local environment of O2- evolves, the reactivity of oxygen ions at low voltage is significantly inhibited, thus giving rise to the large energy conversion efficiency (89.07%). This study reveals the structure-activity relationship between the local environment around O2- and voltage hysteresis, which provides guidance in designing next-generation high-performance cathode materials.

Liquid Metal Interfacial Engineering Strategy to Synthesize All-Carbon-Linked Porous Aromatic Frameworks for the Cycloaddition of CO2 with Epoxides

This study explores the room-temperature synthesis of porous materials and the immobilization of CO2 without the use of metals. The porous aromatic frameworks synthesized at room temperature retain the important functional group structure, and the abundance of carbon-chlorine bonds creates an excellent environment for imidazole linkage. Consequently, a catalyst conducive to the cycloaddition of carbon dioxide is obtained. Hexachloro-p-xylene is explored as the precursor, and a catalyst conducive to carbon dioxide cycloaddition is obtained. The functionalized porous aromatic frameworks (PAF-280-I/B) possess a conversion of 99.6% with a selectivity of 98.9% toward styrene carbonate (SC). The findings of this study can help mitigate the impact of greenhouse gases and enable the production of organic compounds in the circular carbonate platform, turning waste into valuable resources.

Matrix Infrared Spectra, Photochemistry and Density Functional Calculations of Cl--HCCl2, ClHCl-, Cl-ClCCl, and Cl--HCHCl Produced from CHCl3 and CH2Cl2 Exposed to Irradiation from Laser Ablation

Strong absorptions for Cl^--HCCl₂ with D and ¹³C isotopes were observed in the spectra of CHCl₃ codeposited with laser-ablated metal atoms, cations, electrons, and vacuum ultraviolet radiation, which shows that the precursor is an effective electron scavenger. The IR spectra, isotopic shifts, and DFT calculations identified the major product as Cl^--HCCl₂, which is characterized by a strong, broad C-H stretching mode interacting with the overtone of the H-C-Cl bending fundamental. These absorptions decreased on subsequent annealing and photolysis treatments while the ClHCl^- absorptions increased, suggesting that dissociation of the chloroform anion generates the stable symmetrical hydrogen dichloride anion as does the reaction of HCl and Cl^-. A new set of strong, broad absorptions in the deposition spectra that diminished on the early annealing and photolysis are assigned to the Cl-ClCCl radical isomer. Dominant spectral features in the C-H stretching region for the experiments with CH₂Cl₂ are assigned to the symmetric C-H and the antisymmetric Cl-H-C-H stretching bands of the methylene chloride anion Cl^--HCHCl. The stronger, broader, lower frequency bands are due to the hydrogen-bonded hydrogen stretching, and the weaker, sharper, higher frequency absorptions are due to the terminal C-H bond stretching. Similar experiments with CHBr₃ produced absorptions for the analogous Br^--HCBr₂ and BrHBr^- anions.
