Abstract
The influence of cation-π interactions on the electrochemical properties of copper(II) complexes with synthesized pentapeptide C-terminal fragment of Atrial Natriuretic Factor (ANF) hormone was studied in this work. Molecular modeling performed for Cu(II)-NSFRY-NH2 complex indicated that the cation-π interactions between Tyr and Cu(II), and also between Phe-Arg led to specific conformation defined as peptide box, in which the metal cation is isolated from the solvent by peptide ligand. Voltammetry experiments enabled to compare the redox properties and stability of copper(II) complexes with NSFRY-NH2 and its analogues (namely: NSFRA-NH2, NSFRF-NH2, NSAAY-NH2, NSAAA-NH2, AAAAA-NH2) as well as to evaluate the contribution of individual amino acid residues to these properties. The obtained results led to the conclusion, that cation-π interactions play a crucial role in the effective stabilization of copper(II) complexes with the fragments of ANF peptide hormone and therefore could control the redox processes in other metalloproteins.

Abstract
The ion mobility combined with mass spectrometry and theoretical calculations were used to characterize and separate six diastereoisomeric β-lactams. The influence of traveling wave height and wave velocity, size of the alkali metal ion (Li(+), Na(+) and K(+)) and drift gases with varying masses and polarizabilities (N2 and CO2) on separation efficacy was additionally examined. The best separation of diastereoisomers of β-lactams was observed for adducts with Na(+) and Li(+) ions, whereas other parameters had little impact on separation process. The isomeric β-lactams were characterized by both experimental and theoretical collision cross sections. The theoretically calculated values of collision cross sections obtained from extensive molecular dynamics and density functional theory calculations for model structures agreed well with those established experimentally. The relationship between separation efficacy and the configuration at the carbon atoms C5 and C6 of β-lactam ring was defined.

Abstract
Schiff base derived from naphthylamine and benzil (L) binds to two Cu(2+) ions, one by coordination through N of the Schiff base and another by pi cation interaction through benzil rings. This bonding pattern determined by DFT calculation has been proved by matching electronic spectrum obtained from TDDFT calculation to the experimental one. L acts as "on-off" fluorescent and bare eye detectable colorimetric (purple color) sensor for Cu(2+) ion over the metal ions - Na(+), K(+), Ca(2+) Mn(2+), Co(2+) Ni(2+), Zn(2+), Pb(2+), Cd(2+), Hg(2+), Ag(+), Hg(2+) and Al(3+) in 1:1 v/v CH3CN:H2O. These metal ions do not interfere the fluorescent/colorimetric sensing. As fluorescent sensor the linear range of detection is 5×10(-5) to 3×10(-4)M and detection limit 10(-5)M.

Abstract
Ten different DFT methods, including several recently developed functionals have been tested for their performances in prediction of infrared and Raman spectra and molecular structure of cisplatin. The assessed DFT methods cover the range from meta-GGA to hybrid, double hybrid and long-range corrected hybrid models (M06-L, M06, M06-2X, PBE0, mPW1PW, B3LYP, B2PLYP, CAM-B3LYP, ωB97XD and LC-ωPBE). The calculated structural parameters and theoretical spectra have been compared to the corresponding experimental data. It is shown that the LC-ωPBE scheme is superior to other DFT methods in predicting the geometry of cisplatin. Unfortunately, the M06-L, M06-2X and B3LYP functionals are deficient in the evaluation of the strength of two Pt←NH3 coordination bonds in cisplatin (the calculated bond lengths are too long and the Pt-N stretching frequencies are underestimated). Both the PBE0 and mPW1PW functionals, in conjunction with the LanL2TZ(f) basis set for Pt give very similar theoretical results and seem to be the best methods for predicting the IR and Raman spectra of cisplatin. The long-range corrected functionals (LC-ωPBE, ωB97XD and CAM-B3LYP) have shown good performances in predicting the frequencies of Pt-ligand vibrations and are promising new tools for theoretical study of novel platinum(II) compounds.

Abstract
The metal complexation properties of the naturally occurring Maillard reaction product isomaltol HL(2) are investigated by measurement of its stability constants with copper(II), zinc(II), and iron(III) using potentiometric pH titrations in water, by structural and magnetic characterization of its crystalline complex, [Cu(L(2))(2)]·8H(2)O, and by density functional theory calculations. Strong complexation is observed to form the bis(isomaltolato)copper(II) complex incorporating copper in a typical (pseudo-)square-planar geometry. In the solid state, extensive intra- and intermolecular hydrogen bonding involving all three oxygen functions per ligand assembles the complexes into ribbons that interact to form two-dimensional arrays; further hydrogen bonds and π interactions between the furan moiety of the anionic ligands and adjacent copper(II) centers connect the complexes in the third dimension, leading to a compact polymeric three-dimensional (3D) arrangement. The latter interactions involving copper(II), which represent an underappreciated aspect of copper(II) chemistry, are compared to similar interactions present in other copper(II) 3D structures showing interactions with benzene molecules; the results indicate that dispersion forces dominate in the π system to chelated copper(II) ion interactions.
