Abstract
Tadpole polymers, also known as lasso polymers, feature molecular structures that combine a single ring with a single linear side branch, leading to distinct conformational, dynamical, and rheological characteristics compared to their corresponding counterparts, particularly pure linear and pure ring polymers. To elucidate the mechanisms underlying these distinctive behaviors, comprehensive mesoscopic Brownian dynamics (BD) simulations of dilute solution systems of tadpole polymers were conducted using a bead-rod chain model under both equilibrium and flow conditions. Three types of tadpole polymer chains were prepared by varying the ring-to-linear ratio within the tadpole chain and comparing them with the corresponding linear and ring chains. Depending on this ratio, tadpole polymer chains exhibit entirely different structural properties and rotational dynamics, both in equilibrium and under shear flow. As the linear proportion within the tadpole chain increased, the structural, dynamic, and rheological properties of the tadpole polymer chains became more similar to those of pure linear polymers. Conversely, with an increasing ring proportion, these properties began to resemble those of pure ring polymers. Based on these observed tendencies, a simple general scaling expression is proposed for tadpole polymer properties that integrates scaling expressions for both pure linear and pure ring polymers. Our results indicate that the conformational, dynamic, and rheological properties of tadpole polymers, as predicted by these simple scaling expressions, are in good agreement with the simulated values, a result we consider statistically significant.

Abstract
Researchers have dedicated their efforts for the creation of a wide choice of complex and precise macromolecular architectures over the past 100 years. Among them, cyclic polymers benefit from their absence of terminal chains and from their singular topology to minimize their hydrodynamic volume in solution, increase their chemical stability, limit their number of possible conformations as well as a reduce their propensity to crystallize or to form entanglements in comparison to their acyclic counterparts. While monocyclic structures have already been widely investigated and reviewed, reports on more complex polycyclic structures are rare. In this regard, cage-shaped polymers-consisting of at least three polymer chains covalently interconnected through strictly two junction points-have received little attention over the past two decades. Although their synthesis is a worthy challenge, only a few synthetic methodologies of polymer cages were successfully developed so far. Thus, this review intends to highlight the key concepts of the conception of cage-shaped polymers in addition to propose an actual and exhaustive state-of-art concept of their synthesis to rationally promote the next-generation synthesis strategies.

Abstract
Developing an efficient and versatile process to transform a single linear polymer chain into a shape-defined nanoobject is a major challenge in the fields of chemistry and nanotechnology to replicate sophisticated biological functions of proteins and nucleic acids in a synthetic polymer system. In this study, we performed one-shot intrablock cross-linking of linear block copolymers (BCPs) to realize single-chain nanoparticles (SCNPs) with two chemically compartmentalized domains (Janus-shaped SCNPs). Detailed structural characterizations of the Janus-shaped SCNP composed of polystyrene-block-poly(glycolic acid) revealed its compactly folded conformation and compartmentalized block localization, similar to the self-folded tertiary structures of natural proteins. Versatility of the one-shot intrablock cross-linking was demonstrated using several different BCP precursors. In addition, the Janus-shaped SCNP produce miniscule microphase-separated structures.

Abstract
The development of complex topologies such as macromolecular cages constitutes a fascinating aspect of polymer chemistry. In the present work, a novel strategy involving self-closing bifunctional end-groups, which under specific conditions, are allowed to assemble themselves into a predefined thermodynamically favored macrostructure, was designed to fulfill the topological conversion of star-shaped polymers to their respective cage-shaped polymers. A series of four different well-defined four-arm star-shaped poly(ε-caprolactone) polymers varying in molar masses were successfully synthesized, end-functionalized, and closed into cage-shaped polymers by formation of [34]triazolophane macrocycle units. The obtained cage-shaped polymers feature interesting properties that depend drastically on the chain length of the arms and seem to differ from previous reported polymer cages.

Abstract
Cage-shaped polymers, or "macromolecular cages", are of great interest as the macromolecular analogues of molecular cages because of their various potential applications in supramolecular chemistry and materials science. However, the systematic synthesis of macromolecular cages remains a great challenge. Herein, we describe a robust and versatile synthetic strategy for macromolecular cages with defined arm numbers and sizes based on the intramolecular consecutive cyclization of highly reactive norbornene groups attached to each end of the arms of a star-shaped polymer precursor. The cyclizations of three-, four-, six-, and eight-armed star-shaped poly(ε-caprolactone)s (PCLs) bearing a norbornenyl group at each arm terminus were effected with Grubbs' third generation catalyst at high dilution. 1H NMR, SEC, and MALDI-TOF MS analyses revealed that the reaction proceeded to produce the desired macromolecular cages with sufficient purity. The molecular sizes of the macromolecular cages were controlled by simply changing the molecular weight of the star-shaped polymer precursors. Systematic investigation of the structure-property relationships confirmed that the macromolecular cages adopt a much more compact conformation, in both the solution and bulk states, as compared to their linear and star-shaped counterparts. This synthetic approach marks a significant advance in the synthesis of complex macromolecular architectures and provides a platform for novel applications using cage-shaped molecules with polymer frameworks.

Abstract
The precision design of topologically intriguing macromolecular architectures has continuously been an attractive challenge in polymer science and polymer materials engineering. A class of multicyclic polymer topologies, including three subclasses of spiro, bridged, and fused forms, are particularly unique not only from a topological geometry viewpoint but also from their biochemical relevance to programmed folding structures. In this Account, we describe recent progress in constructing this class of macromolecules, in particular by means of an electrostatic self-assembly and covalent fixation (ESA-CF) protocol, in which ion-paired polymer self-assemblies are employed as key intermediates. All three dicyclic constructions having either 8 (spiro), manacle (bridged), or θ (fused) forms, as well as a tricyclic trefoil (spiro) graph, have been constructed by the ESA-CF process. Moreover, a triply fused-tetracyclic macromolecular K3,3 graph has been constructed using a uniform-size dendritic polymer precursor having six cyclic ammonium salt end groups carrying two units of a trifunctional carboxylate counteranion. Remarkably, the K3,3 graph is known in topological geometry as a prototypical nonplanar graph and has been identified as topologically equivalent to some multicyclic polypeptides (cyclotides) produced through the intramolecular S-S bridging with cysteine residues. A series of single cyclic (ring) polymers having one, two, and even three designated functional groups at the prescribed positions along their cyclic backbone segment (kyklo-telechelics) have also been obtained by the ESA-CF protocol. And in conjunction with a tandem alkyne-azide addition (i.e., click) and an olefin metathesis (i.e., clip) reaction, the precision design of complex multicyclic macromolecular architectures has been achieved. Thus, a series of tri-, tetra-, and even hexacyclic polymer topologies of spiro- and bridged-forms and three doubly fused-tricycle (β-, γ-, and δ-graph) forms, as well as a triply fused-tetracyclic and a quadruply fused-pentacyclic form (unfolded tetrahedron-graph, and "shippo"-form, respectively) were effectively constructed. Furthermore, the hybrid multicyclic polymer constructions comprised of three subclasses of spiro, bridged, and fused units have been produced using complementary pairs of single cyclic and dicyclic kyklo-telechelic precursors obtainable by the ESA-CF process. Upon these synthetic developments, we are now entering into an exciting new era of polymer science and polymer materials engineering based on the precision design of polymer topologies, which appears comparable to the "Cambrian explosion period" experienced in the evolution of life systems.

Abstract
The "Plug and Play" template can be individually or successively grafted by dual-responsive molecules on the α-CD modified channels by host-guest interactions and can be peeled off by UV irradiation. The artificial channels present six kinds of responses cycling among four states responding to three environment stimuli, as light, pH, and temperature.

Abstract
A structure-based nomenclature system for monocyclic and polycyclic organic macromolecules is presented. Single-strand mono- and polycyclic macromolecules as well as spiro macrocyclic compounds are covered. However, rotaxanes and catenanes, which contain interlocked rings, and rings or ring systems formed by noncovalent bonds are excluded. Also, polypeptides and carbohydrate polymers are not included. The nomenclature of cyclic macromolecules is based on the existing nomenclature of regular and irregular macromolecules, which in turn is based on the nomenclature of organic chemistry also published by IUPAC. The procedure for naming a cyclic macromolecule consists of transforming it to an open-chain regular or irregular macromolecule in such a way that naming of units proceeds in descending order of seniority but otherwise follows the rules established for these types of macromolecules. For polycyclic macromolecules, the same principles are followed after the main ring, bridges, and branch units are identified and locants for branch units as well as bridges are assigned. The complete names are assembled by citing the component names and locants in the appropriate order according to the rules in this document. Wherever possible, examples for illustration of the naming procedure have been chosen from the literature.

Abstract
Spirocyclic tin dialkoxides are unique initiators for the ring-expansion polymerization of lactones leading to complex, but well-defined macromolecular architectures. In a first example, epsilon-caprolactone (epsilon CL) was polymerized, followed by the resumption of polymerization of a mixture of epsilon CL and epsilon CL alpha-substituted by a chloride (alpha Cl epsilon CL), so leading to "living" eight-shaped chains. Upon hydrolysis of the alkoxides, a four-arm star-shaped copolyester was formed, whose each arm was grafted by conversion of the chloride units into azides, followed by the Huisgen's [3+2] cycloaddition of alkyne end-capped poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) onto the azide substituents. The complexity of this novel amphiphilic architecture was increased further by substituting the four-arm interconnecting PCL by an eight-shaped PCL. In a preliminary step, epsilon CL was polymerized followed by a few units of epsilon CL alpha-substituted by an acrylate. The intramolecular photo-crosslinking of the acrylates adjacent to the tin dialkoxides was effective in stabilizing the eight-shaped polyester while preserving the chain growth sites. This quite unusual tetrafunctional macroinitiator was used to copolymerize epsilon CL and alpha Cl epsilon CL, followed by hydrolysis of the alkoxides, conversion of the chloride units into azides and grafting of the four arms by PEO (see above). This architecture reported for the very first time is nothing but a symmetrical four-tail eight-shaped copolyester macromolecule.

Abstract
A collection of recent developments in topological polymer chemistry is presented. First, topological isomerism occurring on randomly coiled, flexible polymer molecules having cyclic and linear structures is discussed. Second, an electrostatic self-assembly and covalent fixation strategy has been developed for the synthesis of polymeric topological isomers. These isomers have double cyclic, manacle-, and theta-shaped constructions, and are prepared by using either linear or star telechelic polymer precursors having moderately strained cyclic ammonium salt groups, which carry multifunctional carboxylate counteranions. A technique of reversed-phase chromatography (RPC) is demonstrated as an effective means to separate polymers with different topologies, especially polymeric topological isomers. A further extension of topological polymer chemistry has been observed by dynamic selection from electrostatic polymer self-assembly to enable the effective formation of tadpole-shaped, cyclic-linear hybrid topologies.
