Abstract
A series of novel titanium complexes (2a-2e) bearing [N, P] aniline-chlorodiphenylphosphine ligands (1a-1e) featuring CH3 and F substituents have been synthesized and characterized. Surprisingly, in the presence of polar additive, the complexes (2a-2e) all displayed high catalytic activities (up to 1.04 × 106 gPolymer (mol·Ti)-1·h-1 and produced copolymer with the ultrahigh molecular weight up to 1.37 × 106 g/mol. The catalytic activities are significantly enhanced by introducing electron-withdrawing group (F) into the aniline aromatic ring. Especially, the increase in activity based on different complexes followed the order of 2e > 2d > 2c > 2b > 2a. Simultaneously, density functional theory (DFT) calculations have been performed to probe the polymerization mechanism as well as the electronic and steric effects of various substituents on the catalyst backbone. DFT computation revealed that the polymerization behaviors could be adjusted by the electronic effect of ligand substituents; however, it has little to do with the steric hindrance of the substituents. Furthermore, theoretical calculation results keep well in accordance with experimental measurement results. The article provided an appealing design method that the employment of fluorine atom as electron-withdrawing to be studied is the promotive effect of transition-metal coordination polymerization.

Abstract
Hierarchical structure of conjugated polymers is critical to dominating their optoelectronic properties and applications. Compared to nonplanar conformational segments, coplanar conformational segments of conjugated polymers (CPs) demonstrate favorable properties for applications as a semiconductor. Herein, recent developments in the coplanar conformational structure of CPs for optoelectronic devices are summarized. First, this review comprehensively summarizes the unique properties of planar conformational structures. Second, the characteristics of the coplanar conformation in terms of optoelectrical properties and other polymer physics characteristics are emphasized. Five primary characterization methods for investigating the complanate backbone structures are illustrated, providing a systematical toolbox for studying this specific conformation. Third, internal and external conditions for inducing the coplanar conformational structure are presented, offering guidelines for designing this conformation. Fourth, the optoelectronic applications of this segment, such as light-emitting diodes, solar cells, and field-effect transistors, are briefly summarized. Finally, a conclusion and outlook for the coplanar conformational segment regarding molecular design and applications are provided.

Abstract
CONTEXT The work described in this section uses DFT/TD-DFT/B3LYP/6-31G (d,p) (density functional theory and time-dependent density functional theory) to study and simulate the structural, optoelectronic, and optical properties of a series of conjugated compounds based on a modular D-A-Di-A-D architecture. These compounds integrate the D donor unit (carbazole), the A acceptor unit (benzothiadiazole) and various Di donor units. Using AMPS-1D (analysis of micronic structure and photonics), work has been carried out to evaluate the photovoltaic performance of these conjugated compounds in the context of organic solar cells. The compounds show variable performance in terms of energy conversion efficiency, ranging from 7.11 to 11.70%. The addition of a PEDOT layer between the active layer and the anode results in a significant improvement in photovoltaic performance, with energy conversion efficiencies of up to 15.31%, the highest value achieved. The use of ZnO as an intermediate layer remarkably improves photovoltaic performance for all compounds, with notable energy conversion efficiencies reaching 17.13%, 17.20%, and 18%. All in all, the compounds studied present promising prospects as viable candidates for organic block heterojunction (BHJ) solar cell applications. METHODS DFT/TD-DFT/B3LYP/6-31G (d,p), these acronyms stand for the computational methods used to study the properties of compounds. DFT, for "Density Functional Theory", is a quantum computation method used to describe the electronic and structural properties of molecular systems. TD-DFT, for "Time-Dependent Density Functional Theory", is an extension of DFT that allows the treatment of optical and excitation properties. B3LYP is a density functional frequently used in DFT to calculate molecular properties. In addition, 6-31G (d,p) refers to a basic wave function used to approximate the distribution of electrons in molecules. AMPS-1D, or "Analysis of Micro and Photonic Structure", is a modeling tool for studying the photovoltaic properties of multilayer structures, particularly in the context of organic solar cells.

Abstract
In this work we have theoretically investigated the optoelectronic properties of a series of acceptor-donor-acceptor type molecules by employing density functional theory formalism. We have used 1,1-dicyano-methylene-3-indanone as the acceptor unit and a fused N-methyl-dithieno-pyrrole as the donor unit. We have calculated the values of dihedral angle, inter-ring bond length, bond length alteration parameters, HOMO-LUMO gap, ionization potential, electron affinity, partial density of states, reorganization energies for holes and electrons, charge transfer rate for holes and electrons of the seven types of compounds designed via molecular engineering. Calculated IP and EA values manifest that PBDB-C2 shows excellent charge transportation compared to others. Absorption spectra of the designed compounds have been studied using the time-dependent density functional theory method. From the calculation of reorganization energy it is confirmed that our designed molecules behave more likely as donor materials. Our calculated results also reveal that compounds with electron donating substituents at the acceptor units show higher value of λ max. Absorption spectra of donor/acceptor blends show similar trends with the isolated compounds. Observed lower exciton binding energy values for all the compounds indicate facile charge carrier separation at the donor/acceptor interface. Moreover, the negative values of Gibb's free energy change also indicate the ease of exciton dissociation of all the designed compounds. The photovoltaic characteristics of the studied compounds infer that all the designed compounds have the potential to become suitable candidate for the fabrication of organic semiconductors. However, PBDB-C2 and PBDB-C4 with the highest PCE of 18.25% can become the best candidate for application in photovoltaics.

Abstract
Chemical modifications through substitution are observed to be effective in controlling the optoelectronic properties of various polymers for different applications. In this study, density functional theory–based calculations are employed to investigate the optoelectronic properties of several oligothiophenes based on poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) by varying the number of fluoro and cyano substituents attached. The resulting structures of the polymer derivatives are affected by the electrostatic interactions between the cyano or fluoro groups and the adjacent thiophene unit. Of the two, cyano substitution results in much lower frontier orbital energies for the same number of substituents. It was observed that a decrease in the highest occupied molecule orbital and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital energies correlates very strongly with the number of cyano and fluoro substituents. The effect of the cyano and fluoro groups on the frontier orbitals is also demonstrated and observed to correlate strongly with a lowering of the highest occupied molecule orbital and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital energies as the number of substituents is varied. The predicted solar cell characteristics reveal that most cyano and fluoro derivatives will have improved characteristics compared to unsubstituted poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl). This theoretical study shows that by varying the number of electron-withdrawing substituents, the optoelectronic properties may be tuned for solar cell applications.

Abstract
Theoretical studies of polyazomethines (PAZs) with various chemical structures designated for photovoltaic applications are presented. PAZ energy levels and optical properties were calculated within density-functional theory (DFT and TDDFT) framework for 28 oligomers (monomer, dimer and trimer) of PAZs. The correlations between chemical structure of PAZ and location of its highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy levels were examined. It turned out that the presence of triaminophenylene, dimethoxydiphenylene and fluorine group raises the orbital energies. As a consequence, it is a factor which improves the photovoltaic efficiency of solar cell built on the base of the corresponding PAZ and [6,6]-phenyl C61 butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM). On the contrary, quinone, 1,3,5-triazine and perfluorophenylene groups lower orbital energies and have negative influence on the photovoltaic efficiency. Moreover, calculations for methyl, ethyl and butyl analogs of P3HT as well as polythiophenes were performed and compared with the results obtained for PAZs. In addition experimental data are presented, which cover optical, electrochemical and electrical transport properties of the studied PAZs, allowing to determine HOMO and LUMO energies of the polymers and their conductivity. Finally, comparison between calculated and experimental results were made and discussed.

Abstract
The rational improvement of photophysical properties can be highly valuable for the discovery of novel organic fluorophores. Using our new design strategy guided by the oscillator strength, we developed a series of full-color-tunable furoindolizine analogs with improved molar absorptivity through the fusion of a furan ring into the indolizine-based Seoul fluorophore. The excellent correlation between the computable values (oscillator strength and theoretical S0 -S1 energy gap) and photophysical properties (molar absorptivity and emission wavelength) confirmed the effectualness of our design strategy.

Abstract
A series of azomethine and vinylene dyad and triad analogues were prepared. Their absorbance, fluorescence, and redox properties were examined experimentally and theoretically using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. These measurements were done to determine the effect of the heteroatom of the azomethine relative to its all-carbon counterpart and to assess the isoelectronic character of the two bonds. The orientation of the azomethine was found to have little effect on the absorbance, fluorescence, and electrochemical properties. In contrast, the spectral and electrochemical properties were highly contingent on the electronic groups and degree of conjugation. The spectral properties could be tuned 200 nm across the visible region. More importantly, the heteroatom in the conjugated bond was found to give rise to only a 20 nm bathochromic shift in the absorbance and fluorescence spectra. The fluorescence quantum yield (ΦFl) of the vinylene derivatives varied between 5% and 20% with fluorescence quenching occurring by photoisomerization from the E to Z isomers. In contrast, the fluorescence of the analogous azomethine derivatives was completely quenched. The collective spectroscopic and electrochemical ab initio DFT data additionally confirmed that the azomethine and its analogous vinylene are isoelectronic. It was also found that a conjugated thiophene vinylene dyad with primary amines in the α,α'-positions could be prepared and isolated. The compound was stable under aerobic conditions providing electron withdrawing (either ester or nitrile) groups were located in the adjacent positions.
