Abstract
Photoelectric functional materials with electrochemical reversible activity and fluorescence intensities have attracted significant interest due to their wide range of applications in optoelectronic devices. In this work, a series of photoresponsive and electroactive monomers based on thieno[3.4-c]pyrrole-4,6-dione (TPD) are synthesized and characterized. They possess planar geometry with smaller dihedral angles owing to the existence of a noncovalent conformation lock coming from the S atoms and the O atoms. Crystallographic, spectroscopic, and computational results reveal that the introduction of the TPD unit can endow the monomers with aggregation-induced emission (AIE), reduced energy levels, and increased electrochemical activity. The monomers were successfully polymerized through the electrochemical method, and the corresponding polymers displayed reversible electrochemical activity and stability. Moreover, polymer films based on 3,3-dimethyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-thieno[3,4-b][1,4]dioxepine (ProE)-TPD have electrochromic properties in the near-infrared field with a high value of optical contrast ratio (∆T) of 27.1% at 1000 nm.

Abstract
Imidazole, being an interesting dinitrogenic five-membered heterocyclic core, has been widely explored during the last several decades for developing various fascinating materials. Among the different domains where imidazole-based materials find wide applications, the area of optoelectronics has seen an overwhelming growth of functional imidazole derivatives developed through remarkable design and synthesis strategies. The present work reports a design approach for integrating bulky donor units at the four terminals of an imidazole core, leading to the development of sterically populated imidazole-based molecular platforms with interesting structural features. Rationally chosen starting substrates led to the incorporation of a bulky donor at the four terminals of the imidazole core. In addition, homo- and cofunctional molecular systems were synthesized through a suitable combination of initial ingredients. Our approach was extended to develop a series of four molecular systems, i.e., Cz3PhI, Cz4I, Cz3PzI, and TPA3CzI, containing carbazole, phenothiazine, and triphenylamine as known efficient donors at the periphery. Given their interesting structural features, three sterically crowded molecules (Cz4I, Cz3PzI, and TPA3CzI) were screened by using DFT and TD-DFT calculations to investigate their potential as hole transport materials (HTMs) for optoelectronic devices. The theoretical studies on several aspects including hole reorganization and exciton binding energies, ionization potential, etc., revealed their potential as possible candidates for the hole transport layer of OLEDs. Single-crystal analysis of Cz3PhI and Cz3PzI established interesting structural features including twisted geometries, which may help attain high triplet energy. Finally, the importance of theoretical predictions was established by fabricating two solution-process green phosphorescent OLED devices using TPA3CzI and Cz3PzI as HTMs. The fabricated devices exhibited good EQE/PE and CE of ∼15%/56 lm/W/58 cd/A and ∼13%/47 lm/W/50 cd/A, respectively, at 100 cd/m2.

Abstract
Indolocarbazole bearing donor–acceptor type polymers have rarely been reported in the electrochromic field despite them having considerable development in the applications of organic photoelectric devices. In this paper, two novel soluble electrochromic polymers, namely PDTCZ-1 and PDTCZ-2, were prepared by chemical polymerization including indolo[3,2-b]carbazole (IC) units as the donor, diketopyrrolopyrrole (DPP) units as the acceptor and bithiophene units as the bridging group. Through diverse characterization techniques such as cyclic voltammetry (CV), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), UV-vis spectroscopy and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), it was found that PDTCZ-1 and PDTCZ-2 exhibited saturated green in the neutral state and pale green in the oxidized state with optical band gaps of 1.44 eV and 1.39 eV, respectively, as well as demonstrating fast switching speed, satisfactory coloration efficiency and favorable thermal stability. In addition, the proportion of donors to acceptors definitely exerted an influence on the electrochromic properties of the polymers. As the thiophene/IC/DPP ratio changed from 4/3/1 (PDTCZ-1) to 5/4/1 (PDTCZ-2), meaning an increase of the donor ratio, the polymer showed a reduced onset oxidation potential, decreased optical band gap and different dynamic parameters. The positive results suggest that PDTCZ-1 and PDTCZ-2 could be promising candidates as neutral green electrochromic materials and deserve more attention and penetrating research. Two novel neutral green D–A type conjugated polymers were synthesized, illustrating satisfactory electrochromic properties, such as low band gaps, desirable color switches, excellent solubility and favorable thermal stability.![]()

Abstract
Two new donor⁻acceptor type electrochromic copolymers containing non-fluorinated and di-fluorinated benzothiadiazole analogues, namely P(TBT-TBTh) and P(TBT-F-TBTh), were synthesized successfully through chemical polymerization. Both polymers were measured by cyclic voltammetry, UV-vis spectroscopy, colorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis to study the influence of fluoro substitution on the electrochromic performance. The results demonstrated that the two polymer films displayed well-defined redox peaks in pairs during the p-type doping, and showed distinct color change from dark gray blue to light green for P(TBT-TBTh) with the band gap of 1.51 eV, and from gray blue to celandine green for P(TBT-F-TBTh) with the band gap of 1.58 eV. P(TBT-F-TBTh) presented lower highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) energy levels, and better stability than P(TBT-TBTh). It was found that the two fluorine atoms participated in not only inductive effects but also mesomeric effects in the P(TBT-F-TBTh) backbone. In addition, the polymers exhibited high optical contrasts, short response time, and favorable coloration efficiency, especially in the near infrared region. The characterization results indicated that the two reported polymers can be the potential choice as electrochromic materials.

Abstract
In this study, four novel donor⁻acceptor systems, 4-(2,3-dihydrothieno[3,4-b][1,4]dioxin -5-yl)-N-(4-(2,3-dihydrothieno[3,4-b][1,4]dioxin-5-yl)phenyl)-N-(4-nitrophenyl)aniline (NETPA), 4- (4-methoxythiophen-2-yl)-N-(4-(4-methoxythiophen-2-yl)phenyl)-N-(4-nitrophenyl)aniline (NMOTPA), 4-(4-methylthiophen-2-yl)-N-(4-(4-methylthiophen-2-yl)phenyl)-N-(4-nitrophenyl) aniline (NMTPA) and 4-nitro-N,N-bis(4-(thiophen-2-yl)phenyl)aniline (NTTPA), were successfully synthesized by Stille coupling reaction and electropolymerized to obtain highly stable conducting polymers, PNETPA, PNMOTPA, PNMTPA and PNTTPA, respectively. The polymers were characterized using cyclic voltammetry (CV), step profiling and UV⁻Vis⁻NIR spectroscopy. The band gaps (Eg values) were 1.34, 1.59, 2.26, and 2.34 eV, for PNETPA, PNMOTPA, PNMTPA and PNTTPA, respectively. In addition, electrochromic switching showed that all polymers exhibit outstanding optical contrasts, high coloration efficiencies and fast switching speeds in the near-infrared region (NIR). These properties make the polymers suitable materials for electrochromic applications in NIR region.
