Abstract
Circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) is typically achieved with a chiral luminophore. However, using a helical nanosized fused quartz cell consisting of chiral silica, we could control the wavelength and helical sense of the CPL of an achiral luminophore. Chiral silica with a helical nanostructure was prepared by calcining a mixture of polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS)-functionalized isotactic poly(methacrylate) (it-PMAPOSS) and a small amount of chiral dopant. The chiral silica encapsulated functional molecules, including luminophores, along the helical nanocavity, leading to induced circular dichroism (ICD) and induced circularly polarized luminescence (iCPL). Because chiral silica can act as a helical nanosized fused quartz cell, it can encapsulate not only the luminophore but also solvent molecules. By changing the solvent in the luminophore-containing nanosized fused quartz cell, the wavelength of the CPL was controlled. This method provides an effective strategy for designing novel CPL-active materials.

Abstract
Achieving self-assembled nanostructures with ultra-small feature sizes (e. g., below 5 nm) is an important prerequisite for the development of block copolymer lithography. In this work, the preparation and self-assembly of a series of giant molecules composed of vinyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (VPOSS) tethered with monodispersed oligo(L-lactide) chains are presented. Small-angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) results demonstrate that ultra-small domain sizes (down to 3 nm) of phase separated lamellar morphology are achieved in bulk, driven by the strong tendency and fast kinetics for crystallization of VPOSS moieties. Moreover, upon gamma ray radiation, VPOSS cages in the lamellar structure can be crosslinked via polymerization of the vinyl groups. After pyrolysis at high temperature, ultra-thin two-dimensional nano-silica sheets can be obtained.

Abstract
A strategy to obtain chiral silica using an achiral stereoregular polymer with polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) side chains is described herein. The preferred helical conformation of the POSS-containing polymer could be achieved by mixing isotactic polymethacrylate-functionalized POSS (it-PMAPOSS) and a chiral dopant. The array structure of POSS molecules, which are placed along the helical conformation, is memorized even after removing the chiral dopant at high temperatures, leading to a chiral silica compound with exclusive optical activity after calcination.

Abstract
Hyperbranched siloxane-based polymers with ultra-high molecular weight were synthesized by the Piers–Rubinsztajn reaction between octakis(dimethylsiloxy) octasilsesquioxane with different dialkoxysilanes, using tris(pentafluorophenyl) borane as the catalyst. The origin of the high molecular weight is explained by the high reactivity of the catalyst and strain energy of isolated small molecule in which all eight silane groups close into rings on the sides of a single cubic cage. The structural tuneability was further demonstrated by use of methyl(3-chloropropyl)diethoxysilane, which generates a polymer with similar ultra-high molecular weight. Introduction of phosphonate groups through the chloropropyl sites later leads to functionalized polymers which can encapsulate various transition metal nanoparticles.

Unusual Emission of Polystyrene-Based Alternating Copolymers Incorporating Aminobutyl Maleimide Fluorophore-Containing Polyhedral Oligomeric Silsesquioxane Nanoparticles. Polymers (Basel) 2017; 9:polym9030103. Abstract
In this study, we synthesized an unusual 2-aminobutyl maleimide isobutyl polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (MIPOSS-NHBu) monomer lacking conventional fluorescent groups. We then prepared poly(styrene-alt-2-aminobutyl maleimide isobutyl POSS) [poly(S-alt-MIPOSS-NHBu)] and poly(4-acetoxystyrene-alt-2-aminobutyl maleimide isobutyl POSS) [poly(AS-alt-MIPOSS-NHBu)] copolymers through facile free radical copolymerizations using azobisisobutyronitrile as the initiator and tetrahydrofuran as the solvent. A poly(4-hydroxystyrene-alt-2-aminobutyl maleimide isobutyl POSS) [poly(HS-alt-MIPOSS-NHBu)] copolymer was prepared through acetoxyl hydrazinolysis of poly(AS-alt-MIPOSS-NHBu). We employed 1H, 13C, and 29Si nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy; Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy; differential scanning calorimetry; and photoluminescence spectroscopy to investigate the structures and the thermal and optical properties of the monomers and novel POSS-containing alternating copolymers. Intramolecular hydrogen bonding between the amino and dihydrofuran-2,5-dione group and clustering of the locked C=O groups from the POSS nanoparticles in the MIPOSS-NHBu units restricted the intramolecular motion of the polymer chain, causing it to exhibit strong light emission. As a result, the MIPOSS-NHBu monomer and the poly(AS-alt-MIPOSS-NHBu) copolymer both have potential applicability in the detection of metal ions with good selectivity.

Abstract
Head diversification of shape amphiphiles not only broadens the scope of supramolecular engineering for new self-organizing materials but also facilitates their potential applications in high technologies. In this letter, T10 azido-functionalized polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane (POSS) nanoparticle was used to construct new shape amphiphiles via sequential "click" chemistry for addressing two issues: (1) new symmetry of T10 POSS head could enrich the self-assembly behaviors of shape amphiphiles, and (2) copper-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC)-based head functionalization strategy allows the introduction of diverse functionalities onto POSS heads, including bulky ligands (i.e., isobutyl POSS) and UV-attenuating ones (i.e., ferrocene and 4-cyano-4'-biphenyl). This study expands the library of POSS-based shape amphiphiles with numerous possibilities for head manipulations, offering an important step toward new shape amphiphiles beyond traditional hydrophobic/hydrophilic nature for potential applications in giant molecule-based nanoscience and technology.
