Abstract
Imidazolium salts have ubiquitous applications in energy research, catalysis, materials and medicinal sciences. Here, we report a new strategy for the synthesis of diverse heteroatom-functionalized imidazolium and imidazolinium salts from easily available 1,4-diaza-1,3-butadienes in one step. The strategy relies on a discovered family of unprecedented nucleophilic addition/cyclization reactions with trialkyl orthoformates and heteroatomic nucleophiles. To probe general areas of application, synthesized N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) precursors were feasible for direct metallation to give functionalized M/carbene complexes (M = Pd, Ni, Cu, Ag, Au), which were isolated in individual form. The utility of chloromethyl function for the postmodification of the synthesized salts and Pd/carbene complexes was demonstrated. The obtained complexes and imidazolium salts demonstrated good activities in Pd- or Ni-catalyzed model cross-coupling and C-H activation reactions.

Abstract
The potential of using chiral bicyclic NHC ligands that exhibit modularity was investigated in the Cu-catalyzed asymmetric borylation reaction of α,β-unsaturated esters. After screening for ligands and optimization of the reaction conditions, the corresponding products were afforded with good enantioselectivities (up to 85% ee).

Abstract
This report describes the synthesis and characterization of a family of unsymmetrical NCN pincer Ni(ii) complexes 2-8 with NHC-triazole arms. All of these complexes have been fully characterized by X-ray single crystal analysis, NMR spectroscopy, and elemental analysis. Complexes 2 and 4-6 were square planar with a chloride trans to the carbene carbon atoms. Complex 3 was a paramagnetic octahedral complex with its central metal surrounded by two NCN pincer ligands. Complexes 7 and 8 contain [(NHC)2Ni2-OH] moieties bearing a OH bridge. Both the [(NHC)2Ni2-OH] complexes 7 and 8 and [(NCNHCN)Ni-Cl] complexes 2 and 4-6 were synthesized similarly via the reactions of the in situ formed Ag-NHCs from the corresponding imidazolium salts with [NiCl2(PPh3)2]. The catalytic activities of all complexes for Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling were examined. Under the optimized conditions, complex 4 was active in the Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling reactions of aryl iodides and aryl bromides at 110 °C. Aryl chlorides were successfully coupled in the presence of triphenylphosphine as an additive.

Abstract
Iridium complexes bearing a new type of chiral carbene ligand, cyclic (amino)(ferrocenyl)carbene (CAFeC), were prepared. The complexes, which are quite stable in air and moisture, were fully characterized by NMR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis. The NMR spectra of the dicarbonyl complex [IrCl(CO)2 (CAFeC)] showed signals for two isomers in solution, which were assigned to diastereomeric rotamers arising from the rotation of the chiral CAFeC ligand around the axes of the Ir-Ccarbene bond. IR spectroscopy of the dicarbonyl complex revealed that the donor strength of CAFeC is much higher than those of classic N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) and comparable to those of cyclic amino alkyl carbenes (CAACs).

Abstract
Development of CCC-NHC pincer Co complexes via transmetalation from Zr is reported. Formation of these air-stable Co(iii) complexes was achieved through use of a CoCl2 or Co(acac)3in situ or with a discrete CCC-NHC pincer Zr transmetallating agent. Preliminary activity in the hydroboration of styrene is reported. This facile methodology will further the development of CCC-NHC pincer first-row transition metal complexes.
