Abstract
A new self-cyclopropanation of 1,3-diphenylpropane-1,3-dione, leading to tetrasubstituted cyclopropane containing three contiguous stereogenic centers with high stereoselectivity, has been achieved through violet-light-emitting diode-irradiated photocatalysis, featuring both cycloaddition and a distinctive rearrangement. Diverging from conventional cyclopropanation pathways, this reaction yields a tetrasubstituted cyclopropane through unprecedented rearrangement and cascade reactions.

Abstract
Herein we disclose an iron-catalyzed method for stereoselective synthesis of multisubstituted cyclic ketones containing a synthetically challenging quaternary carbon from readily accessible β-vinyl keto esters in good yields. This cascade reaction is initiated by a hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) process, after which a Dowd-Beckwith-type ring-expansion reaction occurs. This strategic transformation offers access to synthetically valuable cyclic ketones bearing two contiguous stereocenters, including quaternary stereocenters, which hold paramount significance within the realm of synthetic chemistry.

Abstract
The Dowd-Beckwith reaction, a ring-expansion of carbonyl compounds via alkoxy radicals, is a powerful approach for synthesizing medium to large-sized carbocyclic scaffolds, which takes advantage of existing ring structures and avoids entropic and enthalpic factors that arise from the end-to-end cyclization strategies. However, the Dowd-Beckwith ring-expansion followed by H-atom abstraction is still the dominating pathway, which hampers its synthetic applications, and there currently exist no reports on the functionalization of ring-expanded radicals using non-carbon based nucleophilic reagents. Herein, we report a redox-neutral decarboxylative Dowd-Beckwith/radical-polar crossover (RPC) sequence that delivers functionalized medium-sized carbocyclic compounds with broad functional group tolerance. The reaction allows one-carbon ring-expansion of 4-, 5-, 6-, 7-, and 8-membered ring substrates and can also be applied to three-carbon chain incorporation, enabling remote functionalization in medium-sized rings.

Abstract
Due to the inert redox activity and high triplet energy, radical chemistry of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds usually requires prefunctionalization substrates, external oxidant, and high-energy UV light. Here, we report a visible-light-driven photocatalyst/cobaloxime system composed of a photosensitized energy transfer reaction (PEnT) and photoinduced electron transfer reaction (PET) and with an interrupted 6π-photocyclization/dehydrogenative aromatization in one pot to synthesize 10-phenanthrenols. Preliminary mechanistic studies revealed that fac-Ir(ppy)3 plays the dual roles of energy transfer catalysis for photocycloaddition via 1,2-biradical intermediates of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds and photoredox/cobaloxime catalysis dehydrogenative aromatization of 1,4-biradical rather than the intermediates via 6π photocyclization in the tandem reaction. In contrast to previous well-established radical chemistry of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds, we provide a new strategy for the activation of 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds under visible light catalysis, affording a novel cyclization strategy with extremely high atom economy for the synthesis of 10-phenanthrenols.

Abstract
A visible-light-induced palladium-catalyzed Dowd-Beckwith ring expansion/C-C bond formation cascade is described. A range of six to nine-membered β-alkenylated cyclic ketones possessing a quaternary carbon center were accessed under mild conditions. Besides styrenes, the electron-rich alkenes such as silyl enol ethers and enamides were also compatible, providing the desired β-alkylated cyclic ketones in moderate to good yields.

Abstract
The C-C σ-bond activation of unstrained cycloketones represents an ingenious and advanced technique in synthetic chemistry, but it remains a challenging area which has been largely underexplored. Herein we report an efficient strategy for the direct C-C cleavage of cyclohexanones and cyclopentanones. The cyclic C-C σ-bond is readily cleaved under mild conditions with the aid of an in situ formed side-chain aryl radical. Density functional theory calculations are carried out to shed light on the unusual regioselectivity of C-C bond cleavage. The reaction affords a variety of structurally diverse 3-coumaranones and indanones that widely exist in natural products and bioactive molecules, illustrating the synthetic value of this method.

Abstract
Seven-membered lactones undergo selective SmI2 -H2 O-promoted radical cyclization to form substituted cyclooctanols. The products arise from an exo-mode of cyclization rather than the usual endo-attack employed in the few radical syntheses of cyclooctanes. The process is terminated by the quenching of a chiral benzylic samarium. A labeling experiment and neutron diffraction study have been used for the first time to probe the configuration and highly diastereoselective deuteration of a chiral organosamarium intermediate.
