Abstract
A Lewis acid-promoted electrophilic thiocyanation/cyclization of ortho-alkynylanilines for the synthesis of indole derivatives has been developed. The reaction utilizes Me3SiBr as the Lewis acid and N-thiocyanatosuccinimide as the thiocyanation reagent. A series of 2-aryl-3-thiocyanato indoles were prepared in moderate to high yields under mild conditions without metals and oxidants. It provides an efficient protocol for the construction of the indole skeleton and C-SCN and C-N bonds in one step as well.

Abstract
In this article, a practical and metal-free method for the synthesis of poly-functionalized 3-selenyl/sulfenyl/telluriumindoles from o-alkynyl arylamines has been achieved. In this protocol, the in situ formation of selenenyl chloride, sulfenyl chloride or tellurenyl chloride is considered as the key intermediate and the 3-selenyl/sulfenyl/telluriumindoles can be obtained in good to excellent yields. Furthermore, the product 2-phenyl-3-(phenylselanyl)-1-tosyl-1H-indole can be selectively oxidized to compounds 2-phenyl-3-(phenylseleninyl)-1-tosyl-1H-indole and 2-phenyl-3-(phenylselenonyl)-1-tosyl-1H-indole in good yields.

Abstract
A simple and efficient method for the regioselective selenation of electron-rich arenes by employing non-metal inorganic iodine pentoxide (I2O5) as a reaction promoter under ambient conditions has been developed. The present protocol showed broad functional group tolerance and easy-to-operate and time-economical features. Additionally, this protocol also allows access to 3-seleno and 3-thiocyanoindoles by the use of readily available selenocyanate and thiocyanate salts. A mechanistic study indicated that the transformation operated through selenenyl iodide-induced electrophilic substitution processes.

Abstract
An interrupted Pummerer reaction of PhICl2 and sulfoxides was found to in situ generate reactive organosulfenyl chloride, which enabled the intramolecular electrophilic cyclization of 2-alkynylanilines, generating 3-sulfenylated indole with a good to excellent yield under metal-free conditions. One striking feature of the approach is that sulfoxide regeneration can be realized via the oxidation of the formed sulfides by the generated hypervalent iodine species.

Abstract
Polar disconnection of the C(sp3 )-N bond of N,N-dialkyl-substituted tertiary amines via ammonium species conventionally favored the loss of the smaller alkyl group by an SN 2 displacement, while selective C(sp3 )-N bond cleavage by cutting off the larger alkyl group is still underdeveloped. Herein, we present a novel Pd0 -catalyzed [2+2+1] annulation, proceeding through an alkyne-directed palladacycle formation and consecutive diamination with a tertiary hydroxylamine by cleaving its N-O bond and one C(sp3 )-N bond, for the rapid assembly of tricyclic indoles in a single-step transformation. Noteworthy, experimental results indicated that large tert-butyl and benzyl groups were selectively cleaved via an SN 1 pathway, in the presence of a smaller alkyl group (Me, Et, i Pr). Under the guidance of this new finding, tricyclic indoles bearing a removable alkyl group could be exclusively obtained by using a (α-methyl)benzyl/benzyl or tert-butyl/2-(methoxycarbonyl)ethyl mixed amino source.

Abstract
A tandem 6π-azacyclization approach for the synthesis of diversified pyrrolo/indolo[1,2-a]quinoxalines from amino-cyclopentenones has been developed. The reaction proceeds through a trifluoroacetic-acid-mediated 6π-electrocyclization and concomitant opening of the cyclopentenone ring. The advantageous features of the developed chemistry include transition-metal-free conditions, operational simplicity, and a broad substrate scope. Further X-ray crystallographic studies confirm the assigned structures of the fused heterocycles.

Abstract
Thiolation/cyclization of homopropargylic tosylamides allowed the selective synthesis of 3-thiolated pyrroles and pyrrolines controlled by solvents. Moreover, the desired 3-thiolated pyrroles were readily transformed to organic fluorophores benzothienopyrrole and bisthiolated boron dipyrromethene (S-BODIPY).

Abstract
The iodocyclisation of alkynes bearing tethered nucleophiles is a highly effective method for the construction and diversification of heterocycles. A key limitation to this methodology is the 5-endo-dig iodocyclisation of alkynes that have an unfavourable electronic bias for electrophilic cyclisation. These tend to direct electrophilic attack of the iodonium atom to the wrong carbon for cyclisation, thus favouring competing addition reactions. Using our previously determined reaction conditions for the 5-endo-dig iodocyclisations of electronically resistant alkynes, we have achieved efficient synthetic access to 2-carboxy (and sulfoxy)-3-iodobenzo[b]thiophenes. The corresponding benzo[b]furans and indoles were not accessible under these conditions. This difference may arise due to the availability of a radical mechanism in the case of iodobenzo[b]thiophenes. The 2-carboxy functionality of the iodocyclised products can be further employed in iterative alkyne-coupling iodocyclisation reactions, where the carboxy group or an imine (Schiff base) partakes in a second iodocyclisation to generate a lactone or pyridine ring.

Abstract
A novel metal-free one-pot protocol for the synthesis of potential biologically active molecules 3-selenylindoles via intramolecular cyclization/selenylation with simple 2-vinylaniline has been developed with moderate to good yield, thus representing it as a facile route to diverse substitution patterns around the indole core. The reaction proceeded smoothly with a broad substrate scope and excellent functional group tolerance. Moreover, the present synthetic route could be readily scaled up to gram quantity without difficulty. Mechanistic studies have revealed that in situ formed selenium electrophile species may be the key intermediate for the selenocyclization process.

Abstract
A simple, efficient, and practical sulfenylation at the C2 position of N-tosylindoles under mild conditions was developed. The designed transformation is based on the reaction of N-tosylindoles with BuLi and S-alkyl, and S-aryl phosphorodithioates or thiotosylates to produce 2-sulfenylindoles in moderate to high yields. The presence of additional hydroxy, carboxy, or amino functionalities did not disturb the formation of products.

Abstract
A facile and efficient method for the synthesis of 3-[(4-nitrophenyl)thio]-substituted 4-methylene-1-pyrrolines is described. When treated with 4-nitrobenzenesulfenyl chloride in refluxing acetonitrile, N-propargylic β-enaminones produced α-sulfenylated N-propargylic β-enaminones, which, in the presence of sodium hydride or cesium carbonate, underwent nucleophilic cyclization to afford 4-methylene-3-[(4-nitrophenyl)thio]-1-pyrrolines in good to high yields. It was shown for the first time that on N-propargylic β-enaminone systems, α-sulfenylation dominates over the formation of thiirenium ion. This one-pot two-step process was found to be general for a variety of N-propargylic β-enaminones and demonstrated good tolerance to a diversity of aromatic and heteroaromatic groups with electron-withdrawing and electron-donating substituents. This process is also applicable to the cyclization of internal alkyne-tethered N-propargylic β-enaminones. The enrichment of 1-pyrroline core with an aryl sulfide moiety might exhibit potential for the synthesis of molecules of pharmacological interest.

Abstract
A simple, mild, catalytic and efficient method for the straightforward synthesis of an interesting class of 2-aryl/alkyl-substituted-3-indolyl quinones in good to high yields is reported for the first time. This atom-efficient method proceeds via copper-catalyzed one-pot sequential intramolecular hydroamination (C–N bond formation) of 2-alkynylanilines followed by oxidative C–C coupling with benzoquinones. Copper-catalyzed domino cyclization of 2-alkynylanilines followed by C–C bond formation with quinones is an efficient method of accessing 3-indolyl quinones.![]()
