Abstract
The Pd-mediated cross-coupling of (hetero)arenes with alkenes may be an effective method for the formation of a C–C bond from two C–H bonds. Discovered by Fujiwara and co-workers in 1967, this reaction led to a number of reports that we firstly highlighted in 2011 (review with references till June 2010) and for which, we retained the name “dehydrogenative Heck reaction”. The topic, especially the reactions of five-membered heteroarenes, has been the subject of intensive research over the last ten years. The present review is limited to these dehydrogenative Heck reactions published since 2010, underlining the progress of the procedures.

This review recounts the development by the authors of the Pd-catalyzed procedures devoted to various kinds of oxidation. Starting with reactions assisted with UV light, the research has explored reactions under light-free conditions: allylic oxidation, alcohol oxidation, etherification, Wacker oxidation and dehydrogenations with, always, accompanying efforts towards mechanism determination.

Abstract
Palladium(II) acetate reacts with proline and proline homologs in acetone/water to yield square planar bis-chelated palladium amino acid complexes. These compounds are all catalytically active with respect to oxidative coupling of olefins and phenylboronic acids. Some enantioselectivity is observed and formation of products not reported in other Pd(II) oxidative couplings is seen. The crystal structures of nine catalyst complexes were obtained. Extended lattice structures arise from N-H••O or O••(HOH)••O hydrogen bonding. NMR, HRMS, and single-crystal XRD data obtained on all are evaluated.

Abstract
Cross-dehydrogenative coupling reactions between two unmodified C–H bonds are one of the most attractive and fundamental strategies for the construction of C–C bonds. As these reactions avoid pre-functionalization and de-functionalization of the substrates, they are cleaner, safer, and faster than traditional cross-coupling reactions. After the introduction of the modern area of cross-dehydrogenative coupling in 2003, many efforts have been devoted to the development of more efficient and selective catalytic systems for these appealing reactions. Among the different types of catalytic systems that have been investigated, nanostructured metal catalysts are highly attractive in view of their high catalytic performance, easy separability and good reusability. The purpose of this review is to focus on the application of nanocatalysts for cross-dehydrogenative coupling of C–H bonds with particular emphasis on the mechanistic aspects of the reactions. Specifically, we have structured this review based on the type of C–C bonds. Thus, the review is divided into six major sections: (i) C(sp3)–C(sp3) coupling; (ii) C(sp3)–C(sp2) coupling; (iii) C(sp3)–C(sp) coupling; (iv) C(sp2)–C(sp2) coupling; (v) C(sp2)–C(sp) coupling; and (vi) C(sp)–C(sp) coupling. Cross-dehydrogenative coupling reactions between two unmodified C–H bonds are one of the most attractive and fundamental strategies for the construction of C–C bonds.![]()

Abstract
Cationic palladium(II) complexes have been found to be highly reactive towards aromatic C-H activation of arylureas at room temperature. A commercially available catalyst [Pd(MeCN)4](BF4)2 or a nitrile-free cationic palladium(II) complex generated in situ from the reaction of Pd(OAc)2 and HBF4, effectively catalyzes C-H activation/cross-coupling reactions between aryl iodides, arylboronic acids and acrylates under milder conditions than those previously reported. The nature of the directing group was found to be critical for achieving room temperature conditions, with the urea moiety the most effective in promoting facile coupling reactions at an ortho C-H position. This methodology has been utilized in a streamlined and efficient synthesis of boscalid, an agent produced on the kiloton scale annually and used to control a range of plant pathogens in broadacre and horticultural crops. Mechanistic investigations led to a proposed catalytic cycle involving three steps: (1) C-H activation to generate a cationic palladacycle; (2) reaction of the cationic palladacycle with an aryl iodide, arylboronic acid or acrylate, and (3) regeneration of the active cationic palladium catalyst. The reaction between a cationic palladium(II) complex and arylurea allowed the formation and isolation of the corresponding palladacycle intermediate, characterized by X-ray analysis. Roles of various additives in the stepwise process have also been studied.

Abstract
The oxidative coupling of arenes and alkenes is an attractive strategy for the synthesis of vinylarenes, but reactions with unactivated alkenes have typically occurred in low yield. We report an Ir-catalyzed oxidative coupling of furans with unactivated olefins to generate branched vinylfuran products in high yields and with high selectivities with a second alkene as the hydrogen acceptor. Detailed mechanistic experiments revealed catalyst decomposition pathways that were alleviated by the judicious selection of reaction conditions and application of new ligands.

Abstract
A new and general protocol for the synthesis of 1-acetoxy-1,3-dienes by an acetoxypalladation/Heck cross-coupling/β-H elimination tandem process is described in which dioxygen is the terminal oxidant. Electron-rich and electron-deficient alkynes are both effective substrates in this system. It is the first example of acetoxypalladation of diarylalkynes.
