Isopolyoxometalates of Antimony: Arylstibonic Acids [H8(RSb)12O28] and Derived Dodecanuclear Polyoxostibonates [M2H10−x(RSb)12O30]x−, M = Na or K

Discrete Molecular Aggregates Based on ZnII and SbIII/V Ions Displaying Efficient Antibacterial and Antioxidant Properties

The reactions of [Zn₃Cl₂(3,5-Me₂PzH)₄(t-BuPO₃)₂] with organostibonic acid in varying reaction conditions have been investigated. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies reveal the formation of [Zn₂(p-ClC₆H₄Sb)₂(O)₂(OCH₃)₂(t-BuPO₃)₃(py)₂] (1), [Zn₂(p-ClC₆H₄Sb^V)₄(Sb^III)₂(O)₈(t-BuPO₃H)₄(t-BuPO₃)₂(py)₂Cl₂] (2), and [Zn₂(RSb)₄(O)₄(OCH₃)₄(t-BuPO₃)₄(py)₂], where R = p-ClC₆H₄ (3) and R = p-iPrC₆H₄ (4), respectively. Interestingly, in the synthesis of 2, complete dearylation of organoantimony moieties followed by C-F bond formation, a reduction from Sb (V) to Sb (III), and Sb···Cl weak intermolecular interactions have been observed. ESI-MS studies suggested that clusters 1-4 maintained their structural integrity in the solution state also. Solution NMR studies (¹H, ³¹P, and ¹³C) support well the observed solid-state structures. 1-4 were tested for antibacterial activity using a microdilution assay. 1 and 4 showed the best activity with lower MIC values (0.78-6.25 μg/mL) against all the tested pathogens. The total antioxidant activity of 1-4 was evaluated through the phosphomolybdenum assay, which showed a total antioxidant activity ranging from 28.96 to 86.46 mg AAE/g compound with the ascorbic acid standard.

Assembling Homometallic Sb6 and Heterometallic Ti4Sb2 Oxo Clusters

Isolation and structural characterization of novel organoantimony(V)-based oxo clusters are reported. (RSb)₄(OH)₄(t-BuPO₃)₆ and (RSb)₂(O)(t-BuPO₃H)₆ independently in the presence of pyridine under solvothermal conditions afford the hexanuclear organoantimonate clusters [(RSb)₆(μ₃-O)₂(μ₂-O)₆(t-BuPO₃)₄], where R = p-i-PrC₆H₄ (1), p-ClC₆H₄ (2). Further, reaction of organostibonate phosphonate with Ti(OⁱPr)₄ in the presence of pyridine under solvothermal conditions afforded the mixed-metal titanium stibonate hexanuclear clusters [(RSb)₂Ti₄(μ₃-O)₂(μ₂-O)₂(t-BuPO₃)₄(μ-OCH₃)₄(OCH₃)₄], where R = p-i-PrC₆H₄ (3), p-ClC₆H₄ (4). Band gap measurements were performed on 1-4. They reveal a remarkable reduction in the band gap on moving from the heavier main-group-based oxo cages (1 and 2) to the titanium-incorporated oxo cages (3 and 4).

In situ generated polysiloxanes stabilizing μ3-oxo bridged Sb3 triangles

The reaction of RSbO3H2 with t-butylsilanetriol has led to the isolation of organoantimony(v) based molecular triangles stabilized by siloxane frameworks. Depending on the reaction conditions employed or the substituents present on the antimony atom, either a combination of a disiloxane and a tetrasiloxane framework or a trisiloxane framework was generated in situ leading to the stabilization of the Sb3 triangle.

Monoorganoantimony(v) phosphonates and phosphoselininates

Molecular oxo-hydroxo clusters have been synthesized by reactions of arylstibonic acids with organophosphonic acid and phenylseleninic acid. Single crystal X-ray structural elucidation revealed the formation of [(p-i-PrC6H4Sb)4(OH)4(t-BuPO3)6] (1), [(p-t-BuC6H4Sb)4(O)2(PhPO3)4(PhPO3H)4] (2), [(p-i-PrC6H4Sb)4(O)3(OH)(PhSeO2)2(t-BuPO3)4(t-BuPO3H2)2] (3), [(p-MeC6H4Sb)4(O)3(OH)(PhSeO2)2(t-BuPO3)4(t-BuPO3H2)2] (4) and [(p-t-BuC6H4Sb)2(O) (PhSeO2)2(t-BuPO3H)4] (5) respectively. Mass spectral studies reveal that the clusters maintain their structural integrity in solution as well. Solution NMR studies ((1)H, (31)P and (77)Se) show spectral patterns which correlate well with the observed solid state structures of 1-5.

19-Tungstodiarsenate(III) Functionalized by Organoantimony(III) Groups: Tuning the Structure-Bioactivity Relationship

A family of three discrete organoantimony(III)-functionalized heteropolyanions-[Na{2-(Me2HN(+)CH2)C6H4Sb(III)}As(III)2W19O67(H2O)](10-) (1), [{2-(Me2HN(+)CH2)C6H4Sb(III)}2As(III)2W19O67(H2O)](8-) (2), and [{2-(Me2HN(+)CH2)C6H4Sb(III)}{WO2(H2O)}{WO(H2O)}2(B-β-As(III)W8O30)(B-α-As(III)W9O33)2](14-) (3)-have been prepared by one-pot reactions of the 19-tungstodiarsenate(III) precursor [As(III)2W19O67(H2O)](14-) with 2-(Me2NCH2)C6H4SbCl2. The three novel polyanions crystallized as the hydrated mixed-alkali salts Cs3KNa6[Na{2-(Me2HN(+)CH2)C6H4Sb(III)}As(III)2W19O67(H2O)]·43H2O (CsKNa-1), Rb2.5K5.5[{2-(Me2HN(+)CH2)C6H4Sb(III)}2As(III)2W19O67(H2O)]·18H2O·Me2NCH2C6H5 (RbK-2), and Rb2.5K11.5[{2-(Me2HN(+)CH2)C6H4Sb(III)}{WO2(H2O)}{WO(H2O)}2(B-β-As(III)W8O30)(B-α-As(III)W9O33)2]·52H2O (RbK-3), respectively. The number of incorporated {2-(Me2HN(+)CH2)C6H4Sb(III)} units could be tuned by careful control of the experimental parameters. Polyanions 1 and 2 possess a dimeric sandwich-type topology, whereas 3 features a trimeric, wheel-shaped structure, representing the largest organoantimony-containing polyanion. All three compounds were fully characterized in the solid state via single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD), infrared (IR) spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis, and their aqueous solution stability was validated by ultraviolet-visible light (UV-vis) and multinuclear ((1)H, (13)C, and (183)W) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy. Effective inhibition against six different types of bacteria was observed for 1 and 2, and we could extract a structure-bioactivity relationship for these polyanions.

Organoantimony(III)-Containing Tungstoarsenates(III): From Controlled Assembly to Biological Activity

A family of three sandwich-type, phenylantimony(III)-containing tungstoarsenates(III), [(PhSb(III) ){Na(H2 O)}As(III) 2 W19 O67 (H2 O)](11-) (1), [(PhSb(III) )2 As(III) 2 W19 O67 (H2 O)](10-) (2), and [(PhSb(III) )3 (B-α-As(III) W9 O33 )2 ](12-) (3), have been synthesized by one-pot procedures and isolated as hydrated alkali metal salts, Cs3 K3.5 Na4.5 [(PhSb(III) ){Na(H2 O)}As(III) 2 W19 O67 (H2 O)]⋅41H2 O (CsKNa-1), Cs4.5 K5.5 [(PhSb(III) )2 As(III) 2 W19 O67 (H2 O)]⋅35H2 O (CsK-2), and Cs4.5 Na7.5 [(PhSb(III) )3 (B-α-As(III) W9 O33 )2 ]⋅42H2 O (CsNa-3). The number of incorporated {PhSb(III) } units could be selectively tuned from one to three by careful control of the reaction parameters. The three compounds were characterized in the solid state by single-crystal XRD, IR spectroscopy, and thermogravimetric analysis. The aqueous solution stability of sandwich polyanions 1-3 was also studied by multinuclear ((1) H, (13) C, (183) W) NMR spectroscopy. Effective inhibitory activity against six different kinds of bacteria was identified for all three polyanions, for which the activity increased with the number of incorporated {PhSb(III) } groups.

Assembling anionic Sb(v)/(iii) containing polyoxostibonates stabilized by triphenyltellurium cations

Mixed valent polyoxostibonates ligated by tetraorganoditelluroxane and stabilized by weak interactions from triaryltellurium cations are presented. Successive reactions like reduction, dearylation and disproportionation have been observed en route to the formation of these novel POMs.

A tetranuclear arylstibonic acid with an adamantane type structure

Base hydrolysis of an intramolecularly coordinated arylantimony tetrachloride is the key to the preparation a well-defined arylstibonic acid having an adamantane type structure.

Hexa- and trinuclear organoantimony oxo clusters stabilized by organosilanols

Reactions of Ph2SbCl3 with RSi(OH)3 [where R = tert-Bu, cyclo-C6H11] and Ph2Si(OH)2 in toluene in the presence of triethylamine as a base were performed. Single-crystal X-ray structural elucidation of the products revealed the formation of hexanuclear antimony(V) and mixed-valent antimony (III/V) oxo-hydroxo clusters built up of an incomplete cubane subunit. Interestingly, in all the reactions, at least one Sb-C bond cleavage has been observed, leading to the formation of novel cluster assemblies [(Ph2Sb)4(PhSb)2(C4H9SiO3)2(O)6(OH)2] (1), [(Ph2Sb)4(PhSb)2(C6H11SiO3)2(O)6(OH)2] (2), [(Ph2Sb)(PhSb)2(Ph2SiO2)2(O)3(OH)2](-)Et3NH(+) (3), and [(Ph2Sb)4(Sb)2(Ph2SiO2)2(O)6(OH)2] (4), respectively.

Synthesis and biological activity of organoantimony(III)-containing heteropolytungstates

Three discrete organoantimony(III)-containing heteropolytungstates [(PhSb(III))(4)(A-α-Ge(IV)W(9)O(34))(2)](12-) (1), [(PhSb(III))(4)(A-α-P(V)W(9)O(34))(2)](10-) (2), and [{2-(Me(2)NCH(2)C(6)H(4))Sb(III)}(3)(B-α-As(III)W(9)O(33))](3-) (3) have been synthesized in one-pot reactions in aqueous medium using the appropriate lacunary heteropolyanion precursor and organoantimony(III) source. Polyanions 1-3 were isolated as hydrated salts, (NH(4))(12)[(PhSb(III))(4)(A-α-Ge(IV)W(9)O(34))(2)]·20H(2)O (1a), Rb(9)Na[(PhSb(III))(4)(A-α-P(V)W(9)O(34))(2)]·20H(2)O (2a), and Rb(3)[{2-(Me(2)NCH(2)C(6)H(4))Sb(III)}(3)(B-α-As(III)W(9)O(33))]·7H(2)O (3a). The compounds 1a-3a were fully characterized in the solid state using infrared (IR) spectroscopy, single-crystal XRD, and thermogravimetric and elemental analyses. The stability of 1-3 in aqueous solution was confirmed by multinuclear NMR ((1)H, (13)C, (31)P, and (183)W) spectroscopy. Preliminary studies on the biological activity of 1-3 showed that all three compounds might act as potent antimicrobial agents.
