Abstract
Herein, we reported an intermolecular asymmetric hydrative aldol reaction through vinyl-gold intermediate under ambient conditions. This tandem alkyne hydration and sequential nucleophilic addition afforded a "base-free" approach to β-hydroxy amides with high efficiency (up to 95 % yields, >50 examples). Vinyl gold intermediate was applied as reactive nucleophile and Fe(acac)3 was used as the critical co-catalyst to prevent undesired protodeauration, allowing this transformation to proceed under mild conditions with good functional group tolerance and excellent stereoselectivity (>20 : 1 d.r. and up to 99 % ee).

Abstract
Transmetalation is a key method for the construction of element-element bonds. Here, we disclose the reactivity of [NiII(Ar)(I)(diphosphine)] compounds with arylgold(I) transmetalating agents, which is directly relevant to cross-coupling catalysis. Both aryl-for-iodide and unexpected aryl-for-aryl transmetalation are witnessed. Despite the strong driving force expected for Au-I bond formation, aryl scrambling can occur during transmetalation and may complicate the outcomes of attempted catalytic cross-coupling reactions.

Abstract
The Au-C linkage has been demonstrated as a robust interface for coupling thin organic films on Au surfaces. However, the nature of the Au-C interaction remains elusive up to now. Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy was previously used to assign a band at 412 cm-1 as a covalent sigma Au-C bond for films generated by spontaneous reduction of the 4-nitrobenzenediazonium salt on Au nanoparticles. However, this assignment is disputed based on our isotopic shift study. We now provide direct evidence for covalent Au-C bonds on the surface of Au nanoparticles using 13C cross-polarization/magic angle spinning solid-state NMR spectroscopy combined with isotope substitution. A 13C NMR shift at 165 ppm was identified as an aromatic carbon linked to the gold surface, while the shift at 148 ppm was attributed to C-C junctions in the arylated organic film. This demonstration of the covalent sigma Au-C bond fills the gap in metal-C bonds for organic films on surfaces, and it has great practical and theoretical significance in understanding and designing a molecular junction based on the Au-C bond.

Abstract
A synergistic gold/iron catalytic system was developed for sequential alkyne hydration and vinyl gold addition to aldehydes or ketones. Fe(acac)3 was identified as an essential co-catalyst in preventing vinyl gold protodeauration and facilitating nucleophilic additions. Effective C-C bond formation was achieved under mild conditions (r.t.) with excellent regioselectivity and high efficiency (1% [Au], up to 95% yields). Extending reaction scope to intramolecular fashion achieved successful macrocyclization (16-31 ring sizes) with excellent yields (up to 90%, gram-scale) without extended dilution (0.2 M), which highlighted the great potential of this new crossed-aldol strategy in challenging target molecule synthesis.

Abstract
The reactions between terminal ethynylpyridines, (trimethylsilyl)ethynylpyridines and cyclopentadienyliron dicarbonyl iodide were studied under Pd/Cu-catalyzed conditions to develop a synthetic approach to the σ-alkynyl iron complexes Cp(CO)2Fe–C

In some cases the reactions with ortho-ethynylpyridine gave as byproduct the unexpected binuclear FePd μ-pyridylvinylidene complex [Cp(CO)Fe{μ2-η1(Cα):η1(Cα)-κ1(N)-Cα

Cβ(H)(o-C5H4N)}(μ-CO)PdI]. The conditions, catalysts, and reagents that provide the highest yields of the desired σ-pyridylethynyl iron compounds were determined. The methods developed allowed the synthesis of the corresponding σ-4-benzothiadiazolylethynyl complex Cp(CO)2Fe–CC–(4-C6H3N2S) as well. Eventually, synthetic approaches to σ-alkynyl iron complexes of the type Cp(CO)2Fe–CC–R (R = ortho-, meta-, para-pyridyl, 4-benzothiadiazol-2,1,3-yl) based on the Pd/Cu-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions were elaborated. Two approaches were developed for the synthesis of iron σ-pyridylethynyl complexes based on Pd/Cu- and Pd-catalyzed Fe–C coupling reactions.![]()

Abstract
Highly selective tandem nucleophilic addition/cross-coupling reactions of alkynes have been developed using visible-light-promoted dual gold/photoredox catalysis. The simultaneous oxidation of Au(I) and coordination of the coupling partner by photo-generated aryl radicals, and the use of catalytically inactive gold precatalysts allows for high levels of selectivity for the cross-coupled products without competing hydrofunctionalization or homocoupling. As demonstrated in representative arylative Meyer-Schuster and hydration reactions, this work expands the scope of dual gold/photoredox catalysis to the largest class of substrates for gold catalysts and benefits from the mild and environmentally attractive nature of visible-light activation.

Abstract
Au-based catalysts are widely used in important processes because of their peculiar characteristics. The catalyst performance depends strongly on the nature and structure of the metal nanoparticles, especially in the case of bimetallic catalysts where synergistic effects between the two metals can be occasionally seen. In this paper, it is shown that electrochemical characterisation (cyclovoltammetry CV and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy EIS) of AuPd systems can be used to determine the presence of an electronic interaction between the two metals, thus providing a strong support in the determination of the nature of the synergy between Au and Pd in the liquid phase oxidation of alcohols. However, it seems likely that the strong difference in the catalytic behavior between the single metals and the bimetallic system is connected not only to the redox behaviour, but also to the energetic balance between the different elementary steps of the reaction.

Abstract
Bimetallic catalysis refers to homogeneous processes in which either two transition metals (TM), or one TM and one Group 11 (G11) element (occasionally Hg also), cooperate in a synthetic process (often a C-C coupling) and their actions are connected by a transmetalation step. This is an emerging research area that differs from the isolated or tandem applications of the now classic processes (Stille, Negishi, Suzuki, Hiyama, Heck). Most of the reactions used so far combine Pd with a second metal, often Cu or Au, but syntheses involving very different TM couples (e.g., Cr/Ni in the catalyzed vinylation of aldehydes) have also been developed. Further development of the topic will soon demand a good knowledge of the mechanisms involved in bimetallic catalysis, but this knowledge is very limited for catalytic processes. However, there is much information available, dispersed in the literature, coming from basic research on exchange reactions occurring out of any catalytic cycle, in polynuclear complexes. These are essentially the same processes expected to operate in the heart of the catalytic process. This Review gathers together these two usually isolated topics in order to stimulate synergy between the bimetallic research coming from more basic organometallic studies and the more synthetic organic approaches to this chemistry.
