Abstract
Indoles and indazoles are common moieties in pharmaceuticals and naturally occurring bioactive compounds. The development of light-driven methods using earth-abundant transition-metal catalysts offers an attractive route for functionalization of such compounds. Herein, we report a visible-light-induced method for the C3- and N-alkylation of indoles and indazoles with styrenes, catalyzed by Co complexes based on the macrocyclic Mabiq ligand (Mabiq = 2-4:6-8-bis(3,3,4,4-tetramethyldihydropyrrolo)-10-15-(2,2'-biquinazolino)-[15]-1,3,5,8,10,14-hexaene-1,3,7,9,11,14-N6). The photochemical behavior of two CoIII catalysts was examined: Co(Mabiq)Cl2 and the newly synthesized Co(MabiqBr)Cl2, which contains the Br-modified ligand. Both complexes undergo visible-light-induced homolysis that is significant to their activity but exhibit differences in reactivity. The alkylation reactions are regioselective, furnishing the alkylated indole and indazole products in a Markovnikov fashion with excellent yields of up to 96% across a broad range of substrates. Notably, in contrast to dual-transition-metal and photoredox-catalyzed cross-coupling reactions, our studies reveal that the Co complex plays a dual role─as a photosensitizer and catalytically active metal center with the Mabiq ligand offering regiocontrol.

Abstract
Since the discovery of persistent carbenes by the isolation of 1,3-di-l-adamantylimidazol-2-ylidene by Arduengo and coworkers, we witnessed a fast growth in the design and applications of this class of ligands and their metal complexes. Modular synthesis and ease of electronic and steric adjustability made this class of sigma donors highly popular among chemists. While the nature of the metal-carbon bond in transition metal complexes bearing N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) is predominantly considered to be neutral sigma or dative bonds, the strength of the bond is highly dependent on the energy match between the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) of the NHC ligand and that of the metal ion. Because of their versatility, the coordination chemistry of NHC ligands with was explored with almost all transition metal ions. Other than the transition metals, NHCs are also capable of establishing a chemical bond with the main group elements. The advances in the catalytic applications of the NHC ligands linked with a second tether are discussed. For clarity, more frequently targeted catalytic reactions are considered first. Carbon-carbon coupling reactions, transfer hydrogenation of alkenes and carbonyl compounds, ketone hydrosilylation, and chiral catalysis are among highly popular reactions. Areas where the efficacy of the NHC based catalytic systems were explored to a lesser extent include CO2 reduction, C-H borylation, alkyl amination, and hydroamination reactions. Furthermore, the synthesis and applications of transition metal complexes are covered.

Abstract
Designing co-catalyst-free late transition metal complexes for ethylene polymerization is a challenging task at the interface of organometallic and polymer chemistry. Herein, a set of new, co-catalyst-free, single-component catalytic systems for ethylene polymerization have been unraveled. Treatment of anthranilic acid with various aldehydes produced four iminocarboxylate ligands (L1-L4) in very good to excellent yield (75-92 %). The existence of 2-((2-methoxybenzylidene)amino) benzoic acid (L1) has been unambiguously demonstrated using NMR spectroscopy, MS and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. A neutral Pd-iminocarboxylate complex [{N O}PdMe(L1)] (N O=κ2 -N,O-ArCHNC6 H4 CO2 with Ar=2-MeOC6 H4 ) C1 was prepared by treating stoichiometric amount of L1.Na with palladium precursor. The identity of C1 was confirmed by 1-2D NMR spectroscopy and single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. Along the same lines, palladium complexes C2-C4 were prepared from ligands L2-L4 respectively. In-situ high-pressure NMR investigations revealed that these Pd complexes are amenable to ethylene insertion and undergo facile β-H elimination to produce propylene. These palladium complexes were then evaluated in ethylene polymerization reaction and various reaction parameters were screened. When C1-C4 were exposed to ethylene pressures of 10-50 bar, formation of low-molecular-weight polyethylene was observed.

Abstract
A novel bis(pyridyl-functionalized 1,2,3-triazol-5-ylidene)-palladium(II) complex [Pd(Py-tzNHC)2](2+) catalyses the copper-, amine-, phosphine-, and additive-free aerobic Sonogashira alkynylation of (hetero)aryl bromides in water as the only reaction solvent. The catalysis proceeds along two connected Pd-cycles with homogeneous bis-carbene Pd(0) and Pd(II) species, as demonstrated by electrospray ionization mass spectrometry.
