Abstract
We report the first examples of metal‐promoted double geminal activation of C(sp3)−H bonds of the N−CH2−N moiety in an imidazole‐type heterocycle, leading to nickel and palladium N‐heterocyclic carbene complexes under mild conditions. Reaction of the new electron‐rich diphosphine 1,3‐bis((di‐tert‐butylphosphaneyl)methyl)‐2,3‐dihydro‐1H‐benzo[d]imidazole (1) with [PdCl2(cod)] occurred in a stepwise fashion, first by single C−H bond activation yielding the alkyl pincer complex [PdCl(PCsp3HP)] (3) with two trans phosphane donors and a covalent Pd−Csp3
bond. Activation of the C−H bond of the resulting α‐methine Csp3
H−M group occurred subsequently when 3 was treated with HCl to yield the NHC pincer complex [PdCl(PCNHCP)]Cl (2). Treatment of 1 with [NiBr2(dme)] also afforded a NHC pincer complex, [NiBr(PCNHCP)]Br (6), but the reactions leading to the double geminal C−H bond activation of the N−CH2−N group were too fast to allow identification or isolation of an intermediate analogous to 3. The determination of six crystal structures, the isolation of reaction intermediates and DFT calculations provided the basis for suggesting the mechanism of the stepwise transformation of a N−CH2−N moiety in the N−CNHC−N unit of NHC pincer complexes and explain the key differences observed between the Pd and Ni chemistries.

Abstract
Novel PCP-pincer iridium complexes bearing a diborylmethyl anion were synthesized. Strong σ-electron-donation to the metal and significant π-backdonation from the metal to boron atoms at the β-position were observed both experimentally and computationally. H/D exchange of the aromatic C-H bond proceeded smoothly and, in addition, the α-methine-hydrogen between boron atoms was found to be replaced with deuterium in benzene-d6 solution possibly through diborylcarbene metal complexes as intermediates.

Abstract
Whereas the bis(imine)imidazolium salt 1·Cl is a potential precursor to a NimineCNHCNimine pincer-type ligand, it reacted with [Pt(cod)2] to give the PtII NHC hydrido complex 3, in which chloride coordination and CNHCNimine chelation is preferred over pincer formation. Unexpectedly, reaction of 1·BF4 with [Pt(cod)2] afforded the unprecedented, 56 CVE tetrahedral cluster [Pt4(μ-H)(cod)4]BF4 (7), which was fully characterized. Imidazolium salts are ubiquitous sources of the much studied NHC ligands and not expected to lead to the formation of metal clusters.

Abstract
The positively charged and weakly polarizable s-block metals commonly do not usually have phosphine ligands in molecular complexes. Herein, we report mono- and dinuclear small diamidophosphine complexes of the alkaline-earth metals Mg, Ca, and Sr, which were prepared from simple precursors and a phosphine-functionalized diamine ligand N,N-bis(2-(diphenyl-phosphino)phenyl)ethane-1,2-diamine (PNHNHP). The alkaline-earth metal based complexes [(PNNP)Mg]2 and [(PNNP)M(thf)3 ] (M=Ca, Sr), exhibit unusual coordination spheres and show bright fluorescence, both in the solid state and in solution. For comparison, the even stronger luminescent Al and Zn complexes [(PNNP)Zn]2 and [(PNNP)AlCl] were prepared. Emission lifetimes in the nanosecond range and high photoluminescence quantum yields up to 93 % are observed at room temperature.

Abstract
The imidazolium chloride [C3 H3 N(C3 H6 NMe2 )N{C(Me)(=NDipp)}]Cl (1; Dipp=2,6-diisopropyl phenyl), a potential precursor to a tritopic Nimine CNHC Namine pincer-type ligand, reacted with [Ni(cod)2 ] to give the NiI -NiI complex 2, which contains a rare cod-derived η3 -allyl-type bridging ligand. The implied intermediate formation of a nickel hydride through oxidative addition of the imidazolium C-H bond did not occur with the symmetrical imidazolium chloride [C3 H3 N2 {C(Me)(=NDipp)}2 ]Cl (3). Instead, a Ni-C(sp3 ) bond was formed, leading to the neutral Nimine CHNimine pincer-type complex Ni[C3 H3 N2 {C(Me)(=NDipp)}2 ]Cl (4). Theoretical studies showed that this highly unusual feature in nickel NHC chemistry is due to steric constraints induced by the N substituents, which prevent Ni-H bond formation. Remarkably, ethylene inserted into the C(sp3 )-H bond of 4 without nickel hydride formation, thus suggesting new pathways for the alkylation of non-activated C-H bonds.

Abstract
An asymmetric heterotopic ligand (S-N(Me)CP) containing a central bicyclic, expanded-ring NHC with one pyridyl and one phosphine exo-substituent has been synthesised and its coordination chemistry with selected late transition metals investigated. The amidinium precursor [S-N(Me)CHP]PF6 shows variable coordination modes with Ag(i), Cu(i) and Au(i) depending on the L : M ratio. The reaction of two mols of [S-N(Me)CHP]PF6 with [Cu(MeCN)4]BF4, AgBF4 or Au(THT)Cl gives the bis-ligand complexes [Cu(κ-P-N(Me)CHP)2(CH3CN)2]BF4·(PF6)2, 1, and [M(κ-P-N(Me)CHP)2]X·(PF6)2 (3: M = Ag, X = BF4; 6: M = Au, X = Cl) respectively. The 1 : 1 reaction of [S-N(Me)CHP]PF6 with AgOTf gave the head-to-tail dimer H,T-[Ag2(μ-N,P-N(Me)CHP)2(μ-OTf)2](PF6)2, 2, whereas the analogous reaction with Au(THT)Cl gave monomeric [Au(κ-P-N(Me)CHP)Cl]PF6, 5. Complex 2 was converted to H,T-[Ag2(μ-C,P-N(Me)CP)2](PF6)2, 4, upon addition of base, while 6 gave [Au(κ-C-N(Me)CP)2]Cl, 8, when treated likewise. Reaction of [S-N(Me)CHP]PF6 with Ni(1,5-COD)2 gave the oxidative addition/insertion product [Ni(κ(3)-N,C,P-N(Me)CP)(η(3)-C8H13)]PF6, 9, which converted to [Ni(κ(3)-N,C,P-N(Me)CP)Cl]PF6, 10, upon exposure of a CHCl3 solution to air. Complex 10 showed conformational isomerism that was also present in [Rh(κ(3)-N,C,P-N(Me)CP)(CO)]PF6, 14, prepared from the precursor complex [Rh(κ-P-N(Me)CHP)(acac)(CO)]PF6, 13, upon heating in C6H5Cl. [Pt(κ(3)-N,C,P-N(Me)CP)(Cl)]PF6, 12, derived from trans-[Pt(κ-P-N(Me)CHP)2(Cl)2](PF6)2, 11, was isolated as a single conformer.

Abstract
Transition metal free alkyne trans-hydroboration is achieved using strong boron electrophiles in the presence of a B–H moiety.
The trans-hydroboration of terminal alkynes mediated by borenium cations [NHC(9-BBN)]+ (NHC = N-heterocyclic carbene, 9-BBN = 9-borabicyclo(3.3.1)nonane) exclusively affords Z-vinylboranes. NHCs and chelating dialkyl substituents on the borenium cation and “non”-basic anions were essential to preclude alternative reactions including dehydroboration. Deuterium labelling studies indicate the mechanism involves addition of the boron electrophile to the alkyne and transfer of hydride to the opposite face of the activated alkyne. trans-Hydroboration proceeds with only catalytic amounts of B(C6F5)3 or [Ph3C][B(C6F5)4] to activate the (NHC)9-BBN(H) precursor with the borenium regenerated in the hydride transfer step. The NHC can be removed from the trans-hydroborated products by the addition of Et2O–BF3 providing access to vinylBBN species effective for Suzuki–Miyaura couplings to generate Z-alkenes. Combinations of catalytic B(C6F5)3 and stoichiometric [HB(C6F5)3]– also lead to trans-hydroboration of terminal alkynes to form Z-isomers of [arylCH

Abstract
Herein we report a facile and selective synthetic route to monocyclic NHC-stabilized boriranes. We have succeeded in obtaining two highly stable new boriranes through salt elimination of NHC-stabilized dichloroboranes with the dianion of trans-stilbene, Na2[C14H12]. One borirane was observed to undergo reaction with [Pt(PEt3)3], in which the Pt(0) center oxidatively adds a backbone C-H bond of the NHC, leading to the isolation of the Pt(II) complex trans-[(Et3P)2PtH{C=CH(NMe)2C·BPh(C14H12)}]. The remarkable inertness of the NHC-boriranes suggests a strong stabilising effect of quaternization of the boron atom.
