Abstract
AIM To investigate the influence of contextual framing on physio- and occupational therapists' clinical reasoning in sensory rooms for patients admitted to psychiatric units. MATERIAL AND METHOD Physiotherapists and occupational therapists from acute and intensive care units with sensory rooms were invited to participate in the study. The therapists were interviewed following sessions with patients in sensory rooms, using a semi-structured interview guide. These therapists also participated in a focus group interview. All interviews were transcribed and analysed based on the thematic analysis by Braun and Clarke. RESULTS Twenty individual interviews and one focus group interview were conducted with seven physio- and occupational therapists. Three themes with accompanying subthemes emerged: (i) The contextual influence: Therapists' perceptions of the use of sensory rooms, The dominance of the medical paradigm). (ii) The therapeutic alliance: The therapists' relational skills, The importance of a good therapeutic patient relation, and Physio- and occupational therapy in a psychiatric setting.: (iii) The therapeutic diagnosis, Therapeutic sensory room interventions, and Holistic approach in a limited timeframe. CONCLUSION The clinical reasoning of physio- and occupational therapists in sensory-modulating sessions for patients admitted to psychiatric units is influenced by a primarily medically dominated paradigm; legally, economically, and politically. Occupational therapists mainly focus on everyday skills and being in the present, whereas physiotherapists focused on activities with bodily anchoring and awareness.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Sensory rooms are environments designed to provide sensory input to help service users regulate arousal and manage distress. Sensory rooms are widely implemented in psychiatric inpatient units, but limited knowledge exists on how the sensory rooms are perceived by those who use them. This study investigated service users' experiences with sensory rooms during admission. METHODS A qualitative case study using semi-structured interviews conducted with 20 participants, admitted in acute, intensive, and open inpatient psychiatric units in Copenhagen, Denmark. Participants used the sensory rooms under guidance from occupational therapists or physiotherapists and were subsequently interviewed about their experiences. Interviews were transcribed and subjected to thematic analysis. RESULTS Participants reported that being in the sensory rooms helped them to reconnect to their body and to experience peace of mind. Over time, participants used the sensory approaches to develop self-management strategies and enable participation in activities. CONCLUSION This study concludes that most of the participants had a positive experience in the sensory room under guidance from one of the unit's physio or occupational therapists. Participants experienced increased physical and mental calmness in the sensory room and an increased sense of safety which made a difference during their admission and, for several of them, also in terms of their expectations for everyday life following their discharge.

Abstract
WHAT IS KNOWN ON THE SUBJECT Most health professionals working in psychiatric care will experience adverse events (AE) such as service user suicide or violence, during their career Norway lacks measures to capture potential iatrogenic injuries, such as risk assessment measures, to evaluate patient records for AEs in both inpatient and outpatient psychiatric clinics in hospitals WHAT THE PAPER ADDS TO EXISTING KNOWLEDGE: We have described an approach to the validation of a research tool between different national contexts; a process that went beyond language translation We have incorporated the understanding of health professionals and service users; to bring together the lifeworld of the patient with the professional definition of AEs, triggers and risk areas of AEs in a psychiatric context. The service users' experiences resulted in modifications to the tool. WHAT ARE THE IMPLICATIONS FOR NURSES Applying the 'Global Trigger Tool-Psychiatry' in Norway and Sweden can help mental health nurses to prevent iatrogenic harm and reduce the occurrence of AEs through the identification of potential triggers. Implementing 'Global Trigger Tool-Psychiatry' might help mental health nurses to improve patient safety in Norway and Sweden. ABSTRACT INTRODUCTION: There is little consensus on cross-cultural and cross-national adaptation of research instruments. AIM/QUESTION To translate and validate a Swedish research tool (GTT-P) to detect iatrogenic adverse events in psychiatric health care by involving service users and health professionals in the process. METHOD The GTT-P, designed to identify events in patient records that were triggers for adverse events, was translated to Norwegian using a cross-cultural adaptation approach. This involved two focus groups with clinical staff, one of which involved service users, and a joint discussion at a Dialogue Conference to generate consensus on the definition of the triggers of potential adverse events identifiable in patient records. RESULTS We highlight both the differences and commonalities in defining the nature of risks, the adverse events and the triggers of such events. The Dialogue Conference resulted in three modifications of the tool, based on service users' experiences. Service user involvement and co-production was essential for both the translation and adaptation of the research instrument. DISCUSSION We have described an approach to the validation of a research tool between different national contexts; a process that went beyond language translation. This approach enables a more nuanced understanding of potential risks within a psychiatric context as it engages differences in the care delivery. Applying the GTT-P in hospital-based psychiatric care might help to identify processes that need to be changed in order to promote patient safety and a safer work environment for mental health nurses. IMPLICATIONS FOR PRACTICE When translating and validating the GTT-P from Swedish to Norwegian, we have considered the knowledge and experiences of both service users and health professionals. The application of the GTT-P can promote greater patient safety in hospital settings.

Abstract
Background: Peer recovery coaching is recovery support service for Substance Use Disorder (SUD) that emphasizes shared lived experience and social support. Though a promising intervention for SUD, differences in the roles, responsibilities, and operationalization of peer recovery coaching across studies make objective implementation and evaluation of this service a challenge.Objective: This study sought to develop a tool to better guide and operationalize peer recovery coaching service delivery. This study describes the initial development, acceptability, feasibility, and validity of this tool: The PRC Checklist.Methods: The PRC Checklist was conceptualized and operationalized by drawing from social support theory and recovery capital research. The PRC Checklist was utilized by PRCs in a pilot randomized controlled trial to demonstrate feasibility and acceptability. To further validate the PRC Checklist, recovery coaches (N = 16; 56% female) were recruited to complete a survey about their responsibilities and their perspectives on the content and potential utility of the PRC Checklist.Results: The PRC checklist used in the pilot study delineates personalized from generalized support and tracks 25 specific activities across three domains of support (i.e. socioemotional, informational, and instrumental). PRCs in the pilot study were able to use the PRC Checklist in all in-person initial baseline encounters and 96.4% of follow-up encounters. Qualitative information collected during project meetings was generally positive but also identified potential limitations to its use. All PRCs surveyed reported that they agreed that the PRC Checklist was helpful, encompassed the services they provided, represented a good idea, provided meaningful information, and would be easy to use. All five of the most common activities PRCs engaged in were reflected in the PRC Checklist.Conclusion: Capturing both personal and generalized support provided by PRCs, this work suggests that the PRC Checklist captures key activities engaged in and is a helpful tool for use in healthcare settings.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To examine the understanding and practice of shared decision-making (SDM) within the context of recovery-oriented care across Veterans Health Administration (VHA) inpatient mental healthcare units. DESIGN VHA inpatient mental health units were scored on the Recovery-Oriented Acute Inpatient Scale (RAIN). Scores on the RAIN item for medication SDM were used to rank each site from lowest to highest. The top 7 and bottom 8 sites (n=15) were selected for additional analyses using a mixed-methods approach, involving qualitative interviews, observation notes and quantitative data. SETTING 34 VHA inpatient mental health units located in every geographical region of the USA. PARTICIPANTS 55 treatment team members. RESULTS Our results identified an overarching theme of 'power-sharing' that describes participants' conceptualisation and practice of medication decision-making. Three levels of power sharing emerged from both interview and observational data: (1) No power sharing: patients are excluded from treatment decisions; (2) Limited power sharing: patients are informed of treatment decisions but have limited influence on the decision-making process; and (3) Shared-power: patients and providers work collaboratively and contribute to medication decisions. Comparing interview to observational data, only observational data indicating those themes differentiate top from bottom scoring sites on the RAIN SDM item scores. All but one top scoring sites indicated shared power medication decision processes, whereas bottom sites reflected mostly no power sharing. Additionally, our findings highlight three key factors that facilitate the implementation of SDM: inclusion of veteran in treatment teams, patient education and respect for patient autonomy. CONCLUSIONS Implementation of SDM appears feasible in acute inpatient mental health units. Although most participants were well informed about SDM, that knowledge did not always translate into practice, which supports the need for ongoing implementation support for SDM. Additional contextual factors underscore the value of patients' self-determination as a guiding principle for SDM, highlighting the role of a supporting, empowering and autonomy-generating environment.

Abstract
Prior studies have demonstrated disruption to outpatient mental health services after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Inpatient mental health services have received less attention. The current study utilized an existing cohort of 33 Veterans Health Affairs (VHA) acute inpatient mental health units to examine disruptions to inpatient services. It further explored the association between patient demographic, clinical, and services variables on relapse rates. Inpatient admissions and therapeutic services (group and individual therapy and peer support) were lower amongst the COVID-19 sample than prior to the onset of COVID-19 while lengths of stay were longer. Relapse rates did not differ between cohorts. Patients with prior emergent services use as well as substance abuse or personality disorder diagnoses were at higher risk for relapse. Receiving group therapy while admitted was associated with lower risk of relapse. Inpatient mental health services saw substantial disruptions across the cohort. Inpatient mental health services, including group therapy, may be an important tool to prevent subsequent relapse.
