Abstract
Pakistan has a high rate of genetic disorders and neonatal mortality concurrent with noted lack of genetic counselors and geneticists. To meet the needs of the patient population, the responsibility of providing clinical genetic services falls on general and specialty physicians. However, their education regarding these essential services is not standardized in medical school curricula nor has it ever been evaluated. The purpose of this work is to describe the self-perceived knowledge, clinical comfort, and perspectives of Pakistani medical students toward their medical genetics' education. A web-based survey was distributed electronically to medical schools around the country. The survey comprised of four sections: (1) participant demographics, (2) self-perceived medical genetics knowledge, (3) level of comfort in applying genetic knowledge and skills, and (4) attitudes toward medical genetics education. Descriptive statistics and a one-way analysis of variance were used for data analysis. Medical students in years 3, 4, and 5 (n = 473) from 25 medical schools participated in this research representing medical education in four Pakistani provinces. Most medical students reported "minimal" to "basic" knowledge of genetic testing methodology (64.7%), cancer genetics (64.9%), prenatal genetic testing (63.02%), and treatment strategies for genetic disease (72.9%). A plurality of students (37%) reported they were uncomfortable with interpreting and communicating genetic test results to patients. Medical students also expressed dissatisfaction with their medical genetics (40%) and genetic counselors training (42%). The self-perceived knowledge and clinical comfort with genetics among Pakistani medical students was limited, especially regarding genetic testing. A significant portion (74.5%) expressed desire for additional genetics education during medical school to aid in their role as future physicians. It is important for physicians-in-training to have a solid understanding of genetic concepts, technologies, and genetic counseling to best support their patients. As endorsed by the participating medical students, this study supports inclusion of more robust genetics' education into Pakistan's medical school curricula.

Abstract
Genetic testing is one of the most high-yield diagnostic tests in the evaluation of pediatric sensorineural (SNHL) hearing loss, leading to a genetic diagnosis in 40-65% of patients. Previous research has focused on the utility of genetic testing in pediatric SNHL and otolaryngologists' general understanding of genetics. This qualitative study examines otolaryngologists' perceptions about facilitators and barriers when ordering genetic testing in the workup of pediatric hearing loss. Potential solutions for overcoming barriers are also explored. Eleven (N = 11) semi-structured interviews were conducted with otolaryngologists in the USA. Most participants were currently practicing in a southern, academic, urban setting and had completed a pediatric otolaryngology fellowship. Insurance was one of the main barriers to testing, and increased genetics provider accessibility was the most frequently cited solution to increase utilization of genetic services. Difficulty acquiring insurance coverage and unfamiliarity with the genetic testing process were the most common reasons otolaryngologists referred patients to genetics clinics for genetic testing, as opposed to ordering testing themselves. This study suggests that otolaryngologists recognize the importance and utility of genetic testing, but a lack of genetics-specific skills, knowledge, and resources makes it difficult for them to facilitate testing. Multidisciplinary hearing loss clinics that include genetics providers may increase the overall accessibility of genetic services.

Abstract
Aim: To understand how attitudes toward pharmacogenomic (PGx) testing among healthcare providers varies by specialty. Methods: Providers reported comfort ordering PGx testing and its perceived utility on web-based surveys before and after genetics education. Primary quantitative analyses compared primary care providers (PCPs) to specialty providers at both timepoints. Results: PCPs were more likely than specialty care providers to rate PGx testing as useful at both timepoints. Education increased comfort ordering PGx tests, with larger improvements among PCPs than specialty providers. Over 90% of cardiology and internal medicine providers rated PGx testing as useful at pre- and post-education. Conclusion: PCPs overwhelmingly perceive PGx to be useful, and provider education is particularly effective for improving PCPs' confidence. Education for all specialties will be essential to ensure appropriate integration into routine practice.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nurses have essential roles in genetic related healthcare, including risk assessment, referring individuals to genetics services, advocating for and educating individual, families, and communities who might benefit from genetic services. OBJECTIVE To determine the genetics and genomic competency of Turkish nurses. DESIGN A descriptive cross sectional research design was used to collect data. SETTING Totally 385 nurses working in clinical or academic settings in Turkey were recruited between 20 January and 20 April 2020. METHODS Data were collected using socio-demographic characteristics form and Genetics and Genomics in Nursing Practice Survey on 20 January-20 April 2020. Descriptive statistics, Kruskal Wallis, and Mann-Whitney U tests were used for data analyses. RESULTS A total of 385 nurses participated in this study. Most, 44.9% had a BSN degree, 42.1% were clinical nurses. Of the nurses, 34.5% reported that they had genetics included in their nursing curriculum, and 74.0% intended to learn more about genetics. The mean knowledge score was 9.36/12. Gender, primary role of nurses, and whether to see patients actively in practice were the factors effecting knowledge score of nurses in genetic and genomics. CONCLUSIONS Turkish nurses' genomics skills need additional development and integration of genomics to the nursing curriculum can be effective to decrease their knowledge gaps. Clinical nurses' genomic competency should improve to increase the nursing care quality.

Abstract
In this research we aimed to (1) develop and validate a new questionnaire examining attitudes and knowledge towards medical genetics, (2) examine the knowledge and attitudes towards medical genetics in students of the Medical Faculty in Rijeka, Croatia and (3) evaluate the impact of education from the mandatory course Medical Genetics on the change of knowledge and attitudes. The study was conducted on 191 fifth- and sixth-year students of the Integrated Undergraduate and Graduate University Study of Medicine in the academic year 2019/2020. Students completed the validated online questionnaire anonymously and voluntarily. Fifth-year students completed the questionnaire twice (beginning/end of the course), while sixth-year students completed the questionnaire once, 3 months after completing the course. The education was carefully designed for medical students according to the CoreCompetences in Genetics for Health Professionals in Europe issued by the European Society of Human Genetics. Using the Kruskal-Wallis test, a statistically significant difference was found between fifth year before and after education and between the fifth year before education and sixth year for (a) total knowledge (P < 0.001), (b) total attitudes (P < 0.001) and (c) personal assessment of knowledge in medical genetics (P < 0.001). Moreover, positive attitudes were associated with higher levels of knowledge. In conclusion, our results emphasise the importance of needs-based education in medical genetics for medical students, which is indispensable for the increase in the level of knowledge and development of positive attitudes in order to provide better health care for patients with genetic disorders.

Abstract
The profession of genetic counseling (also called genetic counselling in many countries) began nearly 50 years ago in the United States, and has grown internationally in the past 30 years. While there have been many papers describing the profession of genetic counseling in individual countries or regions, data remains incomplete and has been published in diverse journals with limited access. As a result of the 2016 Transnational Alliance of Genetic Counseling (TAGC) conference in Barcelona, Spain, and the 2017 World Congress of Genetic Counselling in the UK, we endeavor to describe as fully as possible the global state of genetic counseling as a profession. We estimate that in 2018 there are nearly 7000 genetic counselors with the profession established or developing in no less than 28 countries.

Abstract
With further advances in medical genetics, genetic tests to determine predisposition to disease are becoming viable for a growing number of diseases. Accordingly, it has also become important to identify various viewpoints on genetic testing. The aims of this study were to examine awareness of and attitudes toward genetic testing among the general public (public), cancer patients (patients), and health-care professionals (clinicians and researchers) in Korea. The present survey was conducted from November 2016 to February 2017. The public and patients were surveyed via face-to-face interviews conducted by trained interviewers. Health-care professionals were surveyed via self-administered questionnaires. In total, 1500 individuals from the general public, 1500 cancer patients, 113 clinicians, and 413 researchers were surveyed. Most respondents from the public and patients had previously heard about genetic testing (public, 89.4%; patients, 92.7%, p < 0.01). Differences in attitudes toward genetic testing among the public, patients, and professionals were noted, although most respondents in the present study were aware of genetic testing. Most of the cancer patients tended to overestimate the potential benefit of genetic testing, whereas clinicians expressed concerns for genetic testing. Providing correct information to people who are scheduled to undergo or order genetic testing could help in making an informed decision thereon.

Abstract
BACKGROUND It has been over a decade since the completion of the Human Genome Project (HGP), genomic sequencing technologies have yet to become parts of standard of care in Canada. This study investigates medical oncologists' (MOs) genomic literacy and their experiences based on their participation in a cancer genomics trial in British Columbia, Canada. METHODS The authors conducted a survey of MOs from British Columbia, Canada (n = 31, 52.5% response rate), who are actively involved in a clinical genomics trial called Personalized Onco-Genomics (POG). The authors also measured MOs' level of genomic knowledge and attitudes about clinical genomics in cancer medicine. RESULTS The findings show a low to moderate level of genomic literacy among MOs. MOs located outside the Vancouver area (the major urban center) reported less knowledge about new genetics technologies compared to those located in the major metropolitan area (26.7 vs 73.3%, P < 0.07, Fisher exact test). Forty-two percent of all MOs thought medical training programs do not offer enough genomic training. The majority of the respondents thought genomics will have major impact on drug discovery (67.7%), and treatment selection (58%) in the next 5 years. They also thought the major challenges are cost (61.3%), patient genomic literacy (48.3%), and clinical utility of genomics (42%). CONCLUSIONS The data suggest a high need to increase genomic literacy among MOs and other doctors in medical school training programs and beyond, especially to physicians in regional areas who may need more educational interventions. Initiatives like POG play a critical role in the education of MOs and the integration of big data clinical genomics into cancer care.

Abstract
Aim: To examine genomic medicine (GM) practice and associated factors (i.e., attitudes, intention, self-efficacy, previous training in genomics, and demographic characteristics) among Taiwanese physicians. Methods: A survey was distributed to physicians attending an internal training workshop at a large medical center in Taiwan. Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling. Results: A total of 137 physicians comprised our final sample; less than a third of them had practiced GM. Yet, participants overall had positive intention, favorable attitudes, and high self-efficacy in GM practice. Moreover, intention, attitudes, self-efficacy, educational level, and continuing education in GM were positively and significantly associated with participants’ GM practice. Conclusion: Offering continuing education for Taiwanese physicians is needed to enhance their practice in GM.

Abstract
Advances in genetic testing applied to child neurology have enabled the development of genetic tests with greater sensitivity in elucidating an etiologic diagnosis for common neurological conditions. The objective of the current study was to examine child neurologists' perspectives and insights into genetic testing. We surveyed 118 Spanish child neurologists, exploring their knowledge, attitudes, and practices concerning genetic tests. All of them had requested at least one genetic test in the past six months. Global developmental delay or intellectual disability in absence of a strong specific etiologic suspicion and autism spectrum disorders were the disorders for which genetic testing was most frequently requested. The most commonly requested genetic test was CGH-array. Overall, child neurologist perception of readiness for making genetic-related decisions was not bad, although many would like to have a greater support from geneticists and were interested in increasing the time dedicated to genetics within their continuing education program. These data have important implications for future practice, research, and education.
