Abstract
Residents have to use elevators to leave and enter their high-rise apartments frequently. An elevator car can easily spread respiratory infectious diseases, as it has a confined and small space. Therefore, studying how elevator operations promote epidemic transmission is of importance to public health. We developed an infectious disease dynamics model. First, we used homemade codes to simulate the operating state of an elevator and the dynamic process of infectious disease transmission in an apartment building due to elevator operations. Second, we analysed the temporal distribution patterns of infected individuals and patients. Finally, we validated the reliability of the model by performing continuous-time sensitivity analysis on important model parameters. We found that elevator operations can cause rapid spread of infectious diseases within an apartment building. Therefore, it is necessary to enhance elevator ventilation and disinfection mechanisms to prevent the outbreak of respiratory infections. Moreover, residents should reduce elevator use and wear masks.

Characterization of Isolated Aerobic Denitrifying Bacteria and Their Potential Use in the Treatment of Nitrogen-Polluted Aquaculture Water. Curr Microbiol 2022; 79:209. Abstract
Ammonia and nitrite treatments are the critical steps that must be done to ensure the healthy growth of aquatic animals. The nitrification process is often used for nitrogen removal purposes due to its efficiency and environmentally friendly properties. However, the varied growth rate between ammonia and nitrite-oxidizing bacteria can cause nitrite accumulation, leading to the massive mortality of aquatic animals at high concentrations. Therefore, this study aimed to integrate the fast-growing heterotrophic nitrite-reducing bacteria with nitrifying bacteria to achieve a quicker nitrite removal activity. The two denitrifying Bacillus sp. ST20 and Bacillus sp. ST26 were screened from shrimp ponds in Bac Lieu province, Vietnam. Obtained results showed that under anoxic conditions, the nitrite removal efficiency of these two strains reached 68.5-82% at nitrite initial concentration of 20 mgN-NO2/L after 72 h. Higher efficiency of over 95% was gained under oxic conditions. Hence, it enabled the use of denitrifying and nitrifying bacteria-co-immobilized carriers for ammonia oxidation and nitrite reduction simultaneously in a single-aerated bioreactor. A total of over 96% nitrogen content was removed during the bioreactor operation, despite the increase of inputting nitrogen concentration from 40 to 200 mgN/L. Moreover, the suitable conditions for bacterial growth and nitrite conversion activity of the ST20 and ST26 were detected as 15‰ salinity and 35 °C. The isolates also utilized various C-sources for growth, hence widening their applicability. The present study suggested that the isolated aerobic denitrifying bacteria are potentially used for the complete removal of nitrogen compounds from aquaculture wastewater.

Abstract
Recent studies have identified an association between perturbed type I interferon (IFN) responses and the severity of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). IFNα intervention may normalize the dysregulated innate immunity of COVID-19. However, details regarding its utilization and therapeutic evidence have yet to be systematically evaluated. The aim of this comprehensive review was to summarize the current utilization of IFNα for COVID-19 treatment and to explore the evidence on safety and efficacy. A comprehensive review of clinical studies in the literature prior to December 1st, 2021, was performed to identify the current utilization of IFNα, which included details on the route of administration, the number of patients who received the treatment, the severity at the initiation of treatment, age range, the time from the onset of symptoms to treatment, dose, frequency, and duration as well as safety and efficacy. Encouragingly, no evidence was found against the safety of IFNα treatment for COVID-19. Early intervention, either within five days from the onset of symptoms or at hospital admission, confers better clinical outcomes, whereas late intervention may result in prolonged hospitalization.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There is uncertainty with respect to SARS-CoV-2 transmission in children (0-19 years) with controversy on effectiveness of school-closures in controlling the pandemic. It is of equal importance to evaluate the risk of transmission in children who are often asymptomatic or mildly symptomatic carriers that may incidentally transmit SARS-CoV-2 in different settings. We conducted this review to assess transmission and risks for SARS-CoV-2 in children (by age-groups or grades) in community and educational-settings compared to adults. METHODS Data for the review were retrieved from PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, WHO COVID-19 Database, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) Database, WanFang Database, Latin American and Caribbean Health Sciences Literature (LILACS), Google Scholar, and preprints from medRixv and bioRixv) covering a timeline from December 1, 2019 to April 1, 2021. Population-screening, contact-tracing and cohort studies reporting prevalence and transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in children were included. Data were extracted according to PRISMA guidelines. Meta-analyses were performed using Review Manager 5.3. RESULTS Ninety studies were included. Compared to adults, children showed comparable national (risk ratio (RR) = 0.87, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.71-1.060 and subnational (RR = 0.81, 95% CI = 0.66-1.01) prevalence in population-screening studies, and lower odds of infection in community/household contact-tracing studies (odds ratio (OR) = 0.62, 95% CI = 0.46-0.84). On disaggregation, adolescents observed comparable risk (OR = 1.22, 95% CI = 0.74-2.04) with adults. In educational-settings, children attending daycare/preschools (OR = 0.53, 95% CI = 0.38-0.72) were observed to be at lower-risk when compared to adults, with odds of infection among primary (OR = 0.85, 95% CI = 0.55-1.31) and high-schoolers (OR = 1.30, 95% CI = 0.71-2.38) comparable to adults. Overall, children and adolescents had lower odds of infection in educational-settings compared to community and household clusters. CONCLUSIONS Children (<10 years) showed lower susceptibility to COVID-19 compared to adults, whereas adolescents in communities and high-schoolers had comparable risk. Risks of infection among children in educational-settings was lower than in communities. Evidence from school-based studies demonstrate it is largely safe for children (<10 years) to be at schools, however older children (10-19 years) might facilitate transmission. Despite this evidence, studies focusing on the effectiveness of mitigation measures in educational settings are urgently needed to support both public health and educational policy-making for school reopening.

Abstract
Introduction Former studies have shown that hematologic parameters are affected by the SARS‐CoV‐2 infection which has caused a global health problem. Therefore, this research aims to identify the most frequent symptoms and comorbidities in SARS‐CoV‐2 infected outpatients; besides, to analyze hematological parameters and their correlation with cycle threshold (Ct) values. Methods We analyzed a total of sixty outpatients with SARS‐CoV‐2 infection. They were divided according to sex. Afterward, a questionnaire was carried out to find out their symptoms and comorbidities. Additionally, blood biometry data were correlated with the Ct value, respectively. Results Sixty patients were analyzed; the mean age was 43 years. All patients were from Nayarit, Mexico. The frequency index showed that the main symptoms were headache and anosmia, and the comorbidities were obesity and smoking. The analysis of blood biometry showed a clear increase in red blood cells (RBC) related parameters in women. In both sexes an increase in the number of white blood cells (WBC) was observed. Also, all the hematological alterations correlated with the grade of infection. Conclusion Headache and anosmia are the most common symptoms according to the frequency index, the main comorbidities were obesity and smoking. Also, there is a Ct value correlation with hematological parameters (WBC, mean corpuscular volume, mean corpuscular hemoglobin, hemoglobin); they can be used as a prognostic marker of infection.
