Abstract
We assessed the effect of continuity of care (COC) on the frequency of hospitalization for Ambulatory care-sensitive conditions (ACSCs) to estimate the impact of COC and hearing disability relative to the controls. This retrospective cohort study used claim data of Korean National Health Insurance Service - National Sample Cohort 2.0 DB. We used propensity score matching to determine a control group for the hearing disability group by age, sex, and the Charlson Comorbidity Index. The hearing-impaired group included 720 participants, and the non-disabled control group, consisting of individuals without any form of disability, had 1,423 individuals. We used the frequency of hospitalization for ACSCs during one-year follow-up as the dependent variable for Poisson regression. We measured COC with the Bice-Boxerman Continuity of Care Index (COCI); higher COCI values represent better continuity of care, with COCI values ranging from 0 to 1. Poisson regression showed that disability status modifies the effect of COCI on the incidence of hospitalization. COCI = 1 reduced hospitalizations in people with hearing disabilities (adjusted Incidence Rate Ratio [aIRR]: 0.30, 95% CI: 0.20-0.44) but was not statistically significant for controls. In the COCI = 1 group, the effect of disability was not significant(aIRR: 1.10, 95% CI: 0.83-1.44). Compared to people without disabilities, enhanced COC for people with hearing disabilities was more effective in preventing hospitalizations for ACSCs.

Abstract
Previous studies on the association between age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) have shown conflicting results. We sought to assess the association between AMD with/without visual disability (VD) and the risk of RA using National Health Insurance data in South Korea. In total, 3,537,293 individuals who underwent health checkups in 2009 were included and followed until 2019. Participants with VD were defined as those with loss of vision or a visual field defect as certified by the Ministry of Health and Welfare of Korea. Using multivariable adjusted Cox regression analysis, RA hazard ratios were estimated for control and AMD with/without VD groups. In total, 43,772 participants (1.24%) were diagnosed with RA. Individuals with AMD were at higher risk of RA compared to controls, regardless of the presence of VD (aHR 1.11; 95% CI 1.02-1.21). Among individuals with AMD, different risk levels of RA were observed between those without VD (aHR 1.13; 95% CI 1.03-1.21) and those with VD (aHR 0.90; 95% CI 0.64-1.27). AMD was associated with a higher risk of RA, which remained significant as a trend even after adjusting for lifestyle factors and comorbidities.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Visual disabilities (VD) are expected to rise with an aging population. Persons with VD experience a higher prevalence of chronic and acute diseases. Despite the significance of influenza to this population, there is limited data comparing influenza care disparities between those with VD and those without. OBJECTIVE The study aimed to determine the influenza burden and associated healthcare utilization in individuals with VD compared to those without disabilities. METHODS A retrospective cohort study was conducted using the Korean National Health Information Database, encompassing three influenza seasons (2011-2012 to 2013-2014). The influenza incidence and incidence rate ratio (IRR) was calculated. Adjusted IRRs were calculated using a zero-inflated Poisson model. We assessed the risk of admissions and 30-day post-influenza mortality, employing logistic regression or survival analysis. RESULTS A total of 504,374 patients (252,964 patients with VD and 251,410 controls) were followed for 1,471,480 person-years. The influenza incidence was higher in the VD cohort than in the control (8.8 vs. 7.8 cases per 1000 person-years). VD cohort had a higher influenza IRR (adjusted IRR 1·13, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1·02-1·25). Severe VD exhibited higher hospitalization risk (adjusted odds ratio [OR] 1·29, 95% CI 1·10-1·20) and increased medical costs. Severe VD was a significant risk factor for mortality (adjusted Hazard Ratio 1·89, 95% CI 1·04-3·45). CONCLUSIONS People with VD have a higher influenza incidence, while their outcomes are comparable to those without. Nevertheless, severe VD significantly contributes more to hospitalization, mortality, and medical costs than controls.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the association between age-related macular degeneration (AMD) with or without visual disability (VD) and the risk of fracture using the National Health Insurance data in South Korea. METHODS In total, 3,894,702 individuals who had taken part in health-screening programs between January 1, 2009, and December 31, 2009, were included in the cohort and followed until December 31, 2019. The participants with VD, which could be related to the severity of AMD, were defined as those with a loss of vision or visual field defect as certified by the Korean government's Ministry of Health and Welfare. The hazard ratio was calculated for groups (control and AMD with/without VD) using the multivariable-adjusted cox regression analysis. RESULTS In total, 466,890 participants (11.99%) were diagnosed with fractures during the study period. An increased risk of fracture was observed in individuals with AMD compared with the control (adjusted hazard ratio (aHR), 1.09, 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.06-1.11). Furthermore, among the AMD individuals, an increased risk of fracture was prominent in individuals with VD (aHR 1.17, 95% CI 1.08-1.27) than those without VD (aHR 1.08, 95% CI 1.06-1.11) compared with the reference group (control). CONCLUSIONS AMD was associated with an increased risk of fracture even without VD. Prevention for fracture should be considered in AMD patients, especially when accompanied by VD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The association between Parkinson's disease (PD) and age-related macular degeneration (AMD) has been shown in previous reports. However, the association between the severity of AMD and PD development is unknown. The aim was to evaluate the association of AMD with/without visual disability (VD) with the risk of PD occurrence using the National Health Insurance data in South Korea. METHODS A total of 4,205,520 individuals, 50 years or older and without a previous diagnosis of PD, participated in the Korean National Health Screening Program in 2009. AMD was verified using diagnostic codes, and participants with VD were defined as those with loss of vision or visual field defect as certified by the Korean Government. The participants were followed up until 31 December 2019, and incident cases of PD were identified using registered diagnostic codes. The hazard ratio was calculated for groups (control and AMD with/without VD) using multivariable adjusted Cox regression analysis. RESULTS In total, 37,507 participants (0.89%) were diagnosed with PD. Amongst individuals with AMD, the risk of PD development was higher in individuals with VD (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR] 1.35, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.09-1.67) than in those without (aHR 1.22, 95% CI 1.15-1.30) compared with controls. Additionally, an increased risk of PD was observed in individuals with AMD compared with controls, regardless of the presence of VD (aHR 1.23, 95% CI 1.16-1.31). CONCLUSIONS Visual disability in AMD was associated with the development of PD. This suggests that neurodegeneration in PD and AMD may have common pathways.

Abstract
Objective Mental health services have been recognized as an essential part of the comprehensive eye care services, but data regarding the mental health of people living with vision disability (PLwVD) remain very limited. This study examined the epidemiology of major depressive disorder (MDD) among Chinese PLwVD, as well as their perceived needs for and utilization of mental health services. Methods By using stratified cluster sampling method, a total of 1,753 PLwVD were successfully recruited from 73 urban communities and 169 rural villages in Wuhan, China, and interviewed with the Mini-international Neuropsychiatric Interview 5.0. Standardized questions were used to measure perceived mental healthcare needs and use of mental health services of PLwVD with MDD. Results The one-month prevalence of MDD was 24.4%. Among the PLwVD with MDD, 26.0% perceived needs for mental healthcare and only 1.2% sought treatment from mental health specialists for their emotional problems. Factors associated with MDD were middle age [vs. young adulthood, odds ratio (OR) = 1.96, P < 0.001], older adulthood (vs. young adulthood, OR = 1.79, P = 0.004), being never-married (vs. married, remarried, and cohabiting, OR = 1.96, P < 0.001), being separated, divorced, and widowed (vs. married, remarried, and cohabiting, OR = 12.30, P < 0.001), a low level of objective social support (vs. high, OR = 1.83, P < 0.001), currently drinking (OR = 1.81, P < 0.001), having childhood-onset eye conditions (OR = 1.89, P = 0.005), and having difficulties in performing daily activities (OR = 2.78, P < 0.001). Conclusions Chinese PLwVD are at high risk for MDD and have a high level of unmet need for mental healthcare. Public strategies are warranted to improve the mental health literacy of PLwVD and make the mental health services available, accessible, and affordable for PLwVD.
