Abstract
COVID-19-led antibiotic waste generated from hospitals and health centres may cause serious health issues and significantly impact the environment. In the coming decades, antibiotic resistance will be one of the most significant threats to global human health. Photocatalytic water remediation is an effective and promising environmental solution that can be utilized to address this issue, to convert antibiotic waste into non-toxic products by utilizing renewable and abundant solar energy. In the present study, a novel nanocomposite of zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIF-8) and molybdenum diselenide (MoSe2) was efficiently synthesized by the solvothermal method for the complete degradation of the antibiotics and textile waste from water. The morphology, crystallinity and band gap of the samples were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and UV-visible spectroscopy. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) provide the binding information of the sample. The photocatalytic activity was tested for degradation of the antibiotics (tetracycline hydrochloride (TC) and metronidazole (MNZ)) used in COVID-19 treatment and textile dye (malachite green). Time-resolved photoluminescence spectroscopy confirmed the enhanced charge separation in the MoSe2@ZIF-8 nanocomposite with an average lifetime of 4.72 ns as compared to pristine samples. The nanocomposite showed ~ 100% removal efficiency with rate constants of 63 × 10-3, 49 × 10-3 and 42 × 10-3 min-1 for TC, MNZ and malachite green, respectively. The photocatalytic degradation of TC was carried out under different pH conditions (4, 7 and 9), and the degradation mechanism was explained on the basis of zeta potential measurements and active species trapping experiment. The by-products of the photocatalytic treatment of TC antibiotics were tested using liquid chromatography-mass spectroscopy (LC-MS), and they were found to be non-toxic for aquatic and human life. The regeneration property of the nanocomposite was confirmed by FESEM with regeneration efficiency of 88.7% in the 4th cycle. Thus, MoSe2@ZIF-8-based photocatalysts have potential application in water remediation, especially in making the antibiotic waste less toxic.

Abstract
Climate change has been recognized as a threatening environmental problem around the world. CO2 is considered to be the main component of greenhouse gas. By using solar energy (light energy) as the energy source, photocatalytic conversion is one of the most effective technologies to reveal the clean utilization of CO2. Herein, using sodium tungstate, nickel nitrate, and selenium powder as the main raw materials, the high absorption and utilization of WSe2 for light energy and the high intrinsic conductivity of NiSe2 were combined by a hydrothermal method to prepare NiSe2/WSe2 and hydrazine hydrate as the reductant. Then, high-performance NiSe2/WSe2 photocatalytic material was prepared. The characterization results of XRD, XPS, SEM, specific surface area, and UV-visible spectroscopy show that the main diffraction peak of synthesized NiSe2/WSe2 is sharp, which basically coincides with the standard card. After doping NiSe2, the morphology of WSe2 was changed from a flake shape to smaller and more trivial crystal flakes, which demonstrates richer exposed edges and more active sites; the specific surface area increased from 3.01 m2 g−1 to 8.52 m2 g−1, and the band gap becomes wider, increasing from 1.66 eV to 1.68 eV. The results of a photocatalytic experiment show that when the prepared NiSe2/WSe2 catalyst is used to conduct photocatalytic reduction of CO2, the yield of CH3OH is significantly increased. After reaction for 10 h, the maximum yield could reach 3.80 mmol g−1, which presents great photocatalytic activity.

Abstract
The fabrication of inorganic fullerene-like nanoparticles (IFNPs) is an attractive idea due to their unique structures and various potential applications. To date, IFNPs have been made from numerous compounds with layered two-dimensional structures, based on various synthetic methods. Here we have demonstrated for the first time that inorganic fullerene-like molybdenum selenide nanoparticles (MoSe2 IFNPs) can be synthesized by laser ablating a molybdenum selenide target in 30 vol % ethanol/water mixture at ambient temperature and pressure. The formation mechanism was proposed to elucidate the production of MoSe2 IFNPs in the process of laser ablation in liquids (LAL). The appropriate solvent facilitates the condensation of the plasma plume created by LAL to planar MoSe2. Then, laser-induced high temperature and high pressure lead to the formation of a vacancy in the planar MoSe2, causing the generation of nucleation and growth of the MoSe2 IFNPs. In addition, a CCK-8 (cell counting kit-8) assay and a cell viability assay were performed to examine the cytotoxic behavior and the effect on cell viability of MoSe2 IFNPs. The results show that MoSe2 IFNPs are reasonably nontoxic and biocompatible with the given cells, showing they have significant potential in biomedical applications.

Abstract
Graphene quantum dots (GQDs) have attractive properties and potential applications. However, their various applications are limited by a current synthetic method which requires long processing time. Here, we report a facile and remarkably rapid method for production of GQDs exhibiting excellent optoelectronic properties. We employed the pulsed laser ablation (PLA) technique to exfoliate GQDs from multi-wall carbon nanotube (MWCNTs), which can be referred to as a pulsed laser exfoliation (PLE) process. Strikingly, it takes only 6 min to transform all MWCNTs precursors to GQDs by using PLE process. Furthermore, we could selectively produce either GQDs or graphene oxide quantum dots (GOQDs) by simply changing the organic solvents utilized in the PLE processing. The synthesized GQDs show distinct blue photoluminescence (PL) with excellent quantum yield (QY) up to 12% as well as sufficient brightness and resolution to be suitable for optoelectronic applications. We believe that the PLE process proposed in this work will further open up new routes for the preparation of different optoelectronic nanomaterials.

Abstract
The hybrid MoSe2/rGO nanosheets were synthesized via a facile hydrothermal process. The hybrid nanosheets electrode showed enhanced specific capacitance value than that of the pristine MoSe2. The MoSe2/rGO nanosheets exhibited increasing capacitance retention of up to 180% for the long-term stability test of 10,000 cycles at high current density.
