An electrochemiluminescence sensor for 17β-estradiol detection based on resonance energy transfer in α-FeOOH@CdS/Ag NCs. Talanta 2021; 221:121479. Abstract
An electrochemiluminescence (ECL) resonance energy transfer system is constructed for 17β-estradiol (E2) detection using α-FeOOH@CdS nanospheres as the ECL-active substrates and Ag NCs as an efficient quencher. CdS QDs loaded onto three-dimensional (3D) urchin-like α-FeOOH nanospheres (α-FeOOH@CdS nanospheres) exhibited excellent ECL responses, which is attributed to dual-amplification of α-FeOOH frameworks. The 3D hierarchical structure of the α-FeOOH nanospheres provided abundant sites for loading ECL-active species, thus significantly improving the ECL performance of substrates; While Fe3+ presented on surface of α-FeOOH nanospheres could be reduced to Fe2+ in negative potentials, after which might activate persulfate in a Fenton-like process, resulting in more sulfate free radicals for more effective ECL responses via electron transfer reactions. Additionally, Ag nanoclusters (Ag NCs) stabilized by single stranded oligonucleotide were introduced as quenching probes for CdS QDs owing to the well-matched donor-acceptor spectrum for efficient energy transfer, which makes them appropriate for detection of E2. The proposed strategy displayed a desirable dynamic range from 0.01 to 10 pg mL-1 with a limit of detection of 0.003 pg mL-1. The proposed strategy based on the ECL-RET strategy offered an ideal way for E2 detection, and also revealed an alternative platform for detection of other small molecules.

Abstract
The understanding of the physical mechanisms of the nanoobjects interaction within the nanostructured complex materials is one of the main tasks for the development of novel materials with tunable properties. In this work, we develop a formation procedure of the colloidal complexes based on alloyed CdZnSe/ZnS quantum dots and gold nanoparticles where the various mercaptocarboxylic acids are used as the binding molecules. The QD photoluminescence enhancement (up to ×3.1) can be achieved by the control of the interparticle distance in colloidal solutions. We provide a detailed discussion on the influence of the linking molecules on the nanoparticle complexes optical parameters through the steady-state and time-resolved spectral measurements.

Abstract
A sandwich-type electrochemical aptasensor is described for detecting the carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) with high sensitivity and accuracy. Two kinds of nanomaterials are used. The first was obtained by modifying gold nanoparticles with reduced graphene oxide and hemin (Hemin-rGO-AuNPs). The second consists of horseradish peroxidase-modified organic-inorganic hybrid nanoflowers linked to gold nanoparticles to obtain an architecture of type HRP-Cu3(PO4)2-HNF-AuNPs). These serve as carriers for two aptamers (apt1 and apt2) against CEA. Simultaneously, they were used to catalyze the precipitation reaction between 4-chloro-1-naphthol(4-CN) and H2O2. A sandwich-type assay linked to enzyme inhibition amplification was established for electrochemical determination of CEA. Under optimal experimental conditions and by using differential pulse voltammetry, the response peak currents (best measured at -0.34 V vs. Ag/AgCl) increases linearly with the logarithm of the CEA concentration in the range between 100 fg mL-1 and 100 ng mL-1. The detection limit is as low as 29 fg mL-1. Abstract
A simple, rapid, and sensitive visual detection method for observing cucumber green mottle mosaic virus was reported based on the template-independent polymerization activity of terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase (TdT), coupled with the cascade amplification of Mg2+-dependent DNAzyme and hemin/G-quadruplex DNAzyme. Briefly, the hybridized dsDNA of T1/P1 was cut into two parts at its position of 5′-AA↓CG↑TT-3′ by the restricted enzyme AcII. The longer, newborn fragment originating from P1 was tailed at its 3’-end by oligo dG, and an intact enzymatic sequence of Mg2+-dependent DNAzyme was generated. The substrate sequence in the loop segment of the hairpin probe (HP) hybridized with the newborn enzymatic sequence and was cleaved into two parts in the presence of Mg2+. The locked G-quadruplex sequence in the stem segment of the HP was released, which catalyzed the oxidation of ABTS2- in the presence of H2O2, and the resulting solution turned green. A correlation between the absorbance and concentration of T1 was obtained in a range from 0.1 pM to 2 nM, with a detection limit of 0.1 pM. In addition to promoting a lower detection limit and shorter monitoring time, this method also demonstrated an excellent selectivity to single or double nucleotide changes. Therefore, the designed strategy provided a rapid and efficient platform for viral inspection and plant protection.

Abstract
An electrochemical immunosensor employs antibodies as capture and detection means to produce electrical charges for the quantitative analysis of target molecules. This sensor type can be utilized as a miniaturized device for the detection of point-of-care testing (POCT). Achieving high-performance analysis regarding sensitivity has been one of the key issues with developing this type of biosensor system. Many modern nanotechnology efforts allowed for the development of innovative electrochemical biosensors with high sensitivity by employing various nanomaterials that facilitate the electron transfer and carrying capacity of signal tracers in combination with surface modification and bioconjugation techniques. In this review, we introduce novel nanomaterials (e.g., carbon nanotube, graphene, indium tin oxide, nanowire and metallic nanoparticles) in order to construct a high-performance electrode. Also, we describe how to increase the number of signal tracers by employing nanomaterials as carriers and making the polymeric enzyme complex associated with redox cycling for signal amplification. The pros and cons of each method are considered throughout this review. We expect that these reviewed strategies for signal enhancement will be applied to the next versions of lateral-flow paper chromatography and microfluidic immunosensor, which are considered the most practical POCT biosensor platforms.
