Abstract
The concept of peptidomimetics is based on structural modifications of natural peptides that aim not only to mimic their 3D shape and biological function, but also to reduce their limitations. The peptidomimetic approach is used in medicinal chemistry to develop drug-like compounds that are more active and selective than natural peptides and have fewer side effects. One of the synthetic strategies for obtaining peptidomimetics involves mimicking peptide α-helices, β-sheets or turns. Turns are usually located on the protein surface where they interact with various receptors and are therefore involved in numerous biological events. Among the various synthetic tools for turn mimetic design reported so far, our group uses an approach based on the insertion of different ferrocene templates into the peptide backbone that both induce turn formation and reduce conformational flexibility. Here, we conjugated methyl 1'-aminoferrocene-carboxylate with homo- and heterochiral Pro-Ala dipeptides to investigate the turn formation potential and antiproliferative properties of the resulting peptidomimetics 2-5. Detailed spectroscopic (IR, NMR, CD), X-ray and DFT studies showed that the heterochiral conjugates 2 and 3 were more suitable for the formation of β-turns. Cell viability study, clonogenic assay and cell death analysis showed the highest biological potential of homochiral peptide 4.

Abstract
1'-Amino-cobaltocenium-1-carb-oxy-lic acid chloride, [Co(C5H6N)(C6H5O2)]Cl·H2O, (3), and its azo derivative 1'-[2-(1-amino-2,6-dimethylphenyl)diazen-1-yl]cobaltocenium-1-carb-oxy-lic acid hexa-fluorido-phosphate, [Co(C13H14N3)(C6H5O2)]PF6·H2O (5) were obtained from cobaltocenium-1,1'-di-carb-oxy-lic acid hexa-fluorido-phosphate by converting one carboxyl group to its chloro-carboxyl derivative followed by chloride/azide exchange, Curtius rearrangement, diazo-tiation and azo coupling with 2,6-di-methyl-aniline. Both title compounds crystallize as their monohydrates. In the crystal structure of 3, both functional groups lie in the same direction, with the Cp rings being nearly eclipsed, and participate in an extended hydrogen-bonded supra-molecular network including the counter-ion and the water mol-ecule of crystallization. Although the functional groups in 5 are somewhat further apart, bearing a greater torsion angle with the Cp rings now staggered, a similar supra-molecular network is observed with not only the carb-oxy-lic acid and azo groups, but also with the more remote amino group participating in a hydrogen-bonded network, again including the counter-ion and the water mol-ecule. The hexa-fluorido-phosphate ion shows positional disorder. Compound 3 was refined as an inversion twin. In 5, each of the six F atoms is disordered over two sets of sites in a 1:1 ratio.

Abstract
Considerable attention has been given to the research field of bioorganometallic chemistry, which is a hybrid chemistry field between biology and organometallic chemistry. The introduction of biomolecules, which have hydrogen bonding sites and chiral centers, into organometallic compounds is a promising strategy to construct chirality-organized bioorganometallic conjugates. This feature paper sketches an outline of induction of helical chirality into bioorganometallic conjugates by the control of a torsional twist of the organometallic moiety. Topics covered included control of the helical chirality of 1,n′-disubstituted ferrocene moieties in ferrocene-dipeptide conjugates, and the chirality induction of the Au(I)–Au(I) axis in the dinuclear organogold(I)-uracil conjugates.

Abstract
This report presents the synthesis and characterization of mono- and bis(amino acid ester) ferrocene complexes generated using a sulfonamide linking strategy as an alternative to the more heavily explored amide linking strategy. These compounds were investigated to test their ability to form hydrogen bonding interactions both in the solid state and in solution, and were compared to the previously observed intramolecular interstrand crosslinking seen in amide-linked ferrocene constructs. Synthesized compounds also included controls that do not exhibit sulfonamide N-H bonds and thus cannot engage in hydrogen bonding. In the solid state, we observe both S=O⋯H-N and C=O⋯H-N intermolecular interactions, but we do not observe any intramolecular interstrand hydrogen bonding. In the solution phase, we also do not see any intramolecular hydrogen bonding interactions in these compounds as measured by titration of d6-DMSO as a competitive hydrogen bonding reagent. We also collected CD spectra on these compounds, which revealed that the chiral peptides can induce dichroism in the dd transition of the ferrocene units. Our results indicate that the peptide-ferrocene linking group governs whether intermolecular hydrogen bonding interactions can occur between the amino acids adjacent to the cyclopentadienyl groups.

Abstract
Ferrocene with its aromaticity and facile redox properties is an attractive moiety to be incorporated into functional moieties. Medicinal applications of ferrocene are well known and ferrocene itself shows cytotoxic and antianemic properties. In this article, we will describe the synthesis and the structure analysis of two pseudopeptides containing a ferrocene moiety as N-terminal group. After purification, Fc-l-Phe-d-Oxd-OBn [l-Phel-phenylalanine; d-Oxd(4R,5S)-4-Methyl-5-carboxy-oxazolidin-2-one] appears as bright brown solid that spontaneously forms brown needles. The X-ray diffraction of the crystals shows the presence of strong π interactions between the ferrocenyl moiety and the phenyl rings, while no NH•••OC hydrogen bonds are formed. This result is confirmed by FT-IR and 1 H NMR analysis. In contrast, both FT-IR and 1 H NMR analysis suggest that Fc-(l-Phe-d-Oxd)2 -OBn forms a turn conformation stabilized by intramolecular NH•••OC hydrogen bonds in solution. Chiroptical spectroscopies (ECD and VCD) substantially confirmed the absence of a well-defined folded structure. The presence of the Fc moiety is responsible for specific ECD signals, one of which displayed pronounced temperature dependence and is directly related with the helicity assumed by the Fc core. Solid-state ECD spectra were recorded and rationalized on the basis of the X-ray geometry and quantum-mechanical calculations.

Abstract
A novel synthetic approach toward a poorly explored bioorganometallic consisting of ferrocene-1,1'-diamine bearing structurally and chirally diverse amino acid sequences is reported. Until now, ferrocene-1,1'-diamine was suitable for accommodating only identical amino acid sequences at its N-termini, leading to the symmetrically disubstituted homochiral products stabilized through a 14-membered intramolecular hydrogen-bonded ring as is seen in antiparallel β-sheet peptides. The key step of the novel synthetic pathway is the transformation of Ac-Ala-NH-Fn-COOH (5) (Fn = 1,1'-ferrocenylene) to orthogonally protected Ac-Ala-NH-Fn-NHBoc (7). The spectroscopic analysis (IR, NMR, CD) of the novel compounds, corroborated with DFT studies, suggests the interesting feature of the ferrocene-1,1'-diamine scaffold. The same hydrogen-bonding pattern, i.e. a 14-membered hydrogen-bonded ring, was determined both in solution and in the solid state, thus making them promising, yet simple scaffolds capable of mimicking β-sheet peptides. In vitro screening of potential anticancer activity in Hep G2 human liver carcinoma cells and Hs 578 T human breast cancer cells revealed a cytotoxic pattern for novel compounds (150-500 μM) with significantly decreased cell proliferation.

Abstract
Our previous studies showed that alteration of dipeptides Y-Fca-Ala-OMe (III) into Y-Ala-Fca-OMe (IV) (Y = Ac, Boc; Fca = 1'-aminoferrocene-1-carboxylic acid) significantly influenced their conformational space. The novel bioconjugates Y-Fca-Pro-OMe (1, Y = Ac; 2, Y = Boc) and Y-Pro-Fca-OMe (3, Y = Boc; 4, Y = Ac) have been prepared in order to investigate the influence of proline, a well-known turn-inducer, on the conformational properties of small organometallic peptides with an exchanged constituent amino acid sequences. For this purpose, peptides 1–4 were subjected to detailed spectroscopic analysis (IR, NMR, CD spectroscopy) in solution. The conformation of peptide 3 in the solid state was determined. Furthermore, the ability of the prepared conjugates to inhibit the growth of estrogen receptor-responsive MCF-7 mammary carcinoma cells and HeLa cervical carcinoma cells was tested.

Abstract
Proteins modulate the majority of all biological functions and are primarily composed of highly organized secondary structural elements such as helices, turns and sheets. Many of these functions are affected by a small number of key protein-protein contacts, often involving one or more of these well-defined structural elements. Given the ubiquitous nature of these protein recognition domains, their mimicry by peptidic and non-peptidic scaffolds has become a major focus of contemporary research. This review examines several key advances in secondary structure mimicry over the past several years, particularly focusing upon scaffolds that show not only promising projection of functional groups, but also a proven effect in biological systems.
