Abstract
The lanthanide metal organic framework compounds [Ln(BPTA)1.5(Bpy)]·0.5DMF (Ln = Y, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy; 1a-5a) and [Ln(BPTA)1.5(Phen)]·0.5DMF (Ln = Y, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy; 1b-5b) were prepared by employing 2,5-bis(prop-2-yn-1-yloxy)terephthalic acid (2,5-BPTA) as the primary ligand and 2,2'-bipyridine (1a-5a) and 1,10-phenanthroline (1b-5b) as the secondary ligands. Single-crystal structural studies on [Gd(BPTA)1.5(Bpy)]·0.5DMF (3a) and [Dy(BPTA)1.5(Phen)]·0.5DMF (5b) indicated that the compounds have a two-dimensional structure. The Y compound exhibits blue emission, and the other compounds exhibit emission in the expected regions (λex = 350 nm). White light emission was achieved by careful mixing of the red (Eu3+) and green (Tb3+) components in the blue emitting Y compound. Thus, Y0.96Tb0.02Eu0.02 (bpy) and Y0.939Tb0.06Eu0.001 (phen) were found to show white emission when excited using a wavelength of 350 nm. The introduction of N-N-containing ancillary ligands (i.e., bpy and phen) increased the overall quantum yield (QY) of white light emission to 31% and 43%, respectively. The high QY observed for the Tb and Eu compounds was found to be sensitive and selective for the fluorometric detection of azinphos-methyl pesticide and trinitrophenol (TNP) in an aqueous medium at the ppb level. The same behaviour was observed when utilising the compounds as onsite paper strip sensors. Their magnetic properties were also studied, revealing for the Tb and Dy derivatives slow relaxation of the magnetisation at low temperature. The present study highlights the usefulness of rigid π-conjugated molecules such as 2,2'-bipyridine and 1,10-phenanthroline in enhancing the many utilities of rare-earth-containing MOFs towards white light emission, the sensing of harmful and dangerous substances and magnetic properties.

Abstract
New lanthanide carboxylate compounds with two- (2D) and three-dimensional (3D) structures have been prepared by employing 2,5-bis(prop-2-yn-1-yloxy)terephthalic acid (2,5-BPTA) as an organic linker. The compounds, [Ln(C14H8O6)(C7O3H4)·2H2O]·4(H2O), Ln = Y, Pr, Nd, Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy and [Ln(C7O3H4)3·(C3H7ON)·(H2O)]·2(H2O)(C3H7NO), Ln = La, Ce, Pr, have two- and three-dimensional structures, respectively. In all compounds, lanthanide ions are connected together, forming a dimer, which is connected by the 2,5-BPTA ligand. In the two-dimensional structure, there are two 2,5-BPTA moieties present, and in the three-dimensional structure, there are three 2,5-BPTA moieties present. The lanthanide centers are nine-coordinated, the 2D structure has a tricapped trigonal prismatic arrangement, and the 3D structure has a monocapped distorted square antiprismatic arrangement. The Pr compound forms in both 2D and 3D structures, whose formation depends on the time of the reaction (2 days─2D and 5-6 days─3D). The ligand emits in the blue region, and using the characteristic emission of Eu3+ (red) and Tb3+ (green) ions, we achieve white light emission in the (Y0.96Tb0.02Eu0.02) compound. The overall quantum yield for the white light emission is 28%. The strong green luminescence of the Tb3+-containing compound was employed to selectively sense the Cr3+ and Fe3+ ions in aqueous solution with limits of detection (LODs) at 0.41 and 8.6 ppm, respectively. The Tb compound was found to be a good heterogeneous catalyst for the Ullman-type O-arylation reaction between phenol and bromoarene with yields of 95%. Magnetic studies on the Gd-, Tb-, and Dy-containing compounds showed weak exchange interactions within the dimeric Ln2 units. The present work demonstrates the many utilities of the rare-earth-containing MOFs, especially toward white-light emission, metal-ion sensing, and heterogeneous catalysis.

Abstract
Two series of highly luminescent yttrium(iii), europium(iii) and terbium(iii) metal-organic frameworks containing diimine aromatic ligands and the dicarboxylate linker trans-1,4-cyclohexanedicarboxylate (chdc2-) which can be described by the general formulas [M2(bpy)2(chdc)3], where M = Y3+ (1), Eu3+ (2), and Tb3+ (3) and bpy = 2,2'-bipyridyl, and [M2(phen)2(chdc)3], where M = Y3+ (4), Eu3+ (5), and Tb3+ (6) and phen = 1,10-phenanthroline, were synthesized and characterized. All compounds are based on the same dinuclear {M2(L)2(OOCR)6} building blocks and possess a similar topology of the 3D framework with narrow pores. The chelate aromatic ligands act as efficient light-harvesting antennas for subsequent energy transfer to the emitting metal center (M = Eu3+, Tb3+) or intraligand photoemission (M = Y3+). As a result, the reported compounds display intense emission in the red (Eu3+), green (Tb3+) or blue (Y3+) regions representing three basic colors (RGB) of visible light. The measured quantum yields (QYs) of the solid-state luminescence for individual compounds were found to be 63% (1), 46% (2), 59% (3), 2.3% (4), 55% (5) and 49% (6). The drastic reduction of the luminescence efficiency for 4 is explained by the strong disorder of phen ligands. The high thermal stability (up to 300 °C) and exceptional moisture resistance of the bpy-based frameworks 1-3 were confirmed by TG and PXRD measurements. Various bimetal or trimetal compositions were also prepared for the bpy-series. The luminescence properties of these mixed-metal compounds depend on both the chemical composition and excitation wavelength (λex). Remarkably, pure white emission with color temperature = 6126 K was achieved for [Y1.68Eu0.08Tb0.24(bpy)2(chdc)3] at λex = 360 nm with QY = 20%. The reported results suggest that the obtained coordination framework series is a convenient platform for the design of highly efficient light emitting materials with tunable properties.

Abstract
Three new alkaline earth metal carboxyphosphonates with a 3D supramolecular structure, namely, Ca[(H3L)(H2O)] (1), Sr[(H3L)(H2O)2] (2) and Ba2[(H3L)2(H2O)4] (3) have been hydrothermally synthesized. The luminescent and molecular recognition properties of compounds 1–3 were investigated.

Abstract
A novel 3D metal-organic framework based on tetranuclear copper Secondary Building Units, [Cu2(μ3-OH)(4-oip)(DMF)]·DMF·2H2O (JUC-76) (4-oip = 4-hydroxyisophthalic, DMF =N,N-dimethylformamide, and JUC = Jilin University China), has been synthesized under solvothermal conditions. It crystallizes in monoclinic symmetry with space groupP21/n. JUC-76 possesses a three-dimensional network with one-dimensional rhombic channels of approximately 13.6 × 8.5 Å2along the [100] direction. The resulting structure of JUC-76 is a distorted rutile topology with one 3-connected organic node and one 6-connected inorganic node. And its Schläfli symbol is (4·62)2(42·610·83). In addition, JUC-76 exhibits fluorescence emission at 446 nm, and a dominant anti-ferromagnetic interaction between the Cu (II) ions.

Abstract
Hydrothermal synthesis has afforded five divalent zinc coordination polymers containing 4-(4-carboxyphenyl)-2,2':6',2''-terpyridine (HL1) or its isomer 4-(4-carboxyphenyl)-2,2':4',4''-terpyridine (HL2), with or without the addition of auxiliary ligands, 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid (H3btc) and 1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid (H2bdc). Their structures have been characterized by single crystal X-ray analyses and further characterized by infrared spectra, elemental analyses, powder X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analyses and photoluminescent spectra. Across this series, the π···π interactions have a dramatic impact on the self-assembly of these entanglement structures, in either case it can exert an important structure-directing role. In addition, the disposition of pyridine nitrogen atoms in ligands also plays a large role in structure direction in this system. Complex 1 is a 2D + 2D→3D inclined polycatenated coordination polymer based on the resulting array of 2D (6,3) layers constructed by 1D→2D π···π directed self-assembly. Complex 2 is assembled into a 3D framework by means of 1D + 1D→3D mutual interdigitation based on 1D→1D self-assembly driven by π···π stacking interactions. Complex 3 shows a 2D + 2D→3D interdigital network involving 2D + 2D→2D parallel interpenetrated and 2D + 2D→2D interdigital (4,4) layer motifs. Complex 4 displays a 2D + 2D→3D polythreaded framework based on a 2D (4,4) network comprised of alternating rings and rods. Complex 5 is a (3,4)-connected 3D framework with topology (4.8(2).10(3))(4.8(2)). In comparison with covalently connected entanglements, such π···π directing self-assembly of entanglements are far less explored, especially, polycatenane based on 1D chain motifs and polythread based on 2D layer motifs are rarely reported. Furthermore, the luminescent properties of complexes 1-5 at room temperature have also been studied in detail herein.

Abstract
Six lanthanide(III)-2,5-dihydroxy-1,4-benzenedicarboxylate frameworks, namely, [Ln(H(2)-DHBDC)(1.5)(H(2)O)(2)](n) (Ln = La (1) and Pr (2); H(4)-DHBDC = 2,5-dihydroxy-1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid), {[Nd(H(2)-DHBDC)(1.5)(H(2)O)(3)](H(2)O)}(n) (3), {[Eu(H(2)-DHBDC)(NO(3))(H(2)O)(4)](H(2)O)(2)}(n) (4), and {[Ln(2)(H(2)-DHBDC)(2)(DHBDC)(0.5)(H(2)O)(3)](H(2)O)(4)}(n) (Ln = Gd (5) and Dy (6)), with four different structural types ranging from 1D chain, 2D layer to 3D networks have been synthesized and structurally characterized. Compounds La (1) and Pr (2) are isomorphous and exhibit 3D frameworks with the unique 1D tubular channels. Compounds Nd (3) and Eu (4) are 2D layer and 1D zigzag chain, respectively, which are further extended to 3D supramolecular frameworks through extensive hydrogen bonds. Isomorphous compounds of Gd (5) and Dy (6) are 3D frameworks constructed from secondary infinite rod-shaped metal-carboxylate/hydroxyl building blocks. While the hydroxyl groups as secondary functional groups in the 1D chain of Eu (4) and 2D layer of Nd (3) are not bonded to the lanthanide centers, the hydroxyl groups in the 3D frameworks of La (1), Pr (2), Gd (5), and Dy (6) participate in coordinating to lanthanide centers and thus modify the structural types of theses compounds. The magnetic data of compounds Pr (2), Nd (3), Gd (5), and Dy (6) have been investigated in detail. In addition, elemental analysis, IR spectra, powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD) patterns and thermogravimetric analysis of these compounds are described.
