Abstract
This review comprehensively covers recent developments of cyclodextrin-mediated chemical transformations for green chemistry. These cyclic oligomers of glucose are nontoxic, eco-friendly, and recyclable to accomplish eminent functions in water. Their most important feature is to form inclusion complexes with reactants, intermediates, and/or catalysts. As a result, their cavities serve as sterically restricted and apolar reaction fields to promote the efficiency and selectivity of reactions. Furthermore, unstable reagents and intermediates are protected from undesired side reactions. The scope of their applications has been further widened through covalent or noncovalent modifications. Combinations of them with metal catalysis are especially successful. In terms of these effects, various chemical reactions are achieved with high selectivity and yield so that valuable chemicals are synthesized from multiple components in one-pot reactions. Furthermore, cyclodextrin units are orderly assembled in oligomers and polymers to show their cooperation for advanced properties. Recently, cyclodextrin-based metal-organic frameworks and polyoxometalate-cyclodextrin frameworks have been fabricated and employed for unique applications. Cyclodextrins fulfill many requirements for green chemistry and should make enormous contributions to this growing field.

Abstract
A unique fluorescent supramolecular assembly was constructed using coumarin-modified β-cyclodextrin as a reversible ratiometric probe and an adamantane-modified cyclic arginine-glycine-aspartate peptide as a cancer-targeting agent via host-guest inclusion complexation. Importantly, the coumarin-modified β-cyclodextrin not only showed higher sensitivity than the parent coumarin derivatives owing to the presence of numerous hydroxyl groups on the cyclodextrin but also provided a hydrophobic cavity for encapsulation of a cancer-targeting agent. The assembly showed a reversible and fast response to biothiols with a micromolar dissociation constant, as well as outstanding cancer cell permeability, which can be used for high-efficiency real-time monitoring of biothiols in cancer cells. This supramolecular assembly strategy endows the fluorescent probe with superior performance for dynamic sensing of biothiols.

Abstract
l-Cysteine is one of the most promising biomass-based building blocks with great potential applications. Herein, we report a versatile synthetic route to produce cysteine-based 2,5-diketopiperazine (DKP) with good yield from the thiol-ene click reaction of l-cysteine and commercially available acrylates, followed by dimerization of the amino acid intermediates. The achieved DKP diastereomers were successfully separated and fully characterized by spectroscopic methods. Moreover, the chiroptical property of DKP in the presence of various metal ions was investigated by circular dichroism spectroscopy. The potential application of the optically active cysteine-based DKP as a chiral probe for detection of silver ion in water has been demonstrated.

Abstract
Cyclodextrins are well-known macrocyclic oligosaccharides that consist of α-(1,4) linked glucose units and have been widely used as artificial enzymes, chiral separators, chemical sensors, and drug excipients, owing to their hydrophobic and chiral interiors. Due to their remarkable inclusion capabilities with small organic molecules, more recent interests focus on organic reactions catalyzed by cyclodextrins. This contribution outlines the current progress in cyclodextrin-catalyzed organic reactions. Particular emphases are given to the organic reaction mechanisms and their applications. In the end, the future directions of research in this field are proposed.

Abstract
Since several years the inclusion of organic compounds (guests) within the hydrophobic cavity (host) of cyclodextrins (CDs) has been the subject of many investigations. Interestingly, the formation of inclusion complexes could affect the properties of the guest molecules and, for example, the influence of the delivery system can be a method to improve/change the photochemical behavior of the guest. In particular, very recent studies have shown the protective role of CDs preventing the degradation of the encapsulated guest. Starting from this consideration, in this work, only the structure and complexation mode of the inclusion complexes involving 4-thiothymidine (S(4)TdR, a known photosensitizer) and five CDs, namely 2-hydroxypropyl-α-cyclodextrin (2-HP-α-CD), 2-hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin (2-HP-β-CD), 2-hydroxypropyl-γ-cyclodextrin (2-HP-γ-CD), heptakis-(2,6-di-O-methyl)-β-cyclodextrin (DIMEB CD) and heptakis-(2,3,6-tri-O-methyl)-β-cyclodextrin (TRIMEB CD) were investigated by different spectroscopic techniques (UV-vis, FTIR-ATR, (1)H NMR) and cyclic voltammetry analysis (CV). This work is necessary for a prospective research on the photoreactivity of S(4)TdR in aqueous environment and in the presence of CDs to prevent its degradation under irradiation. UV-vis, FTIR-ATR and CV measurements suggested the formation of supramolecular structures involving the employed CDs and mainly the pyrimidine ring of S(4)TdR. (1)H NMR analyses confirmed such indication, unveiling the presence of inclusion complexes. The strongest and deepest interactions were suggested when TRIMEB and DIMEB CDs were studied. The S(4)TdR affinity towards CDs was also evaluated by using the Benesi-Hildebrand (B-H) equation at 25 °C employing CV and (1)H NMR methods. The stoichiometry of the interaction was also inferred and it appears to be 1:1 for all examined CDs.

Abstract
An aminocyclodextrin/Pd(OAc)2 complex is used as an efficient, reusable catalyst in the Mizoroki-Heck reaction of aryl halides/triflates with olefins to give carbon-carbon-coupled products in good to excellent yields. This simple, efficient catalytic system is applicable to a wide range of aryl and heteroaryl halides/triflates and olefins. This environmentally benign procedure is less hazardous, milder, uses a catalytic amount of ligand and Pd(OAc)2 , avoids an inert atmosphere, and catalyst recovery and reusability are achieved.

The HOPO vinyl sulfonamide 3 and the corresponding HOPO acrylamide 10, were easily prepared by short synthetic sequences. Investigation of the aza-Michael reactions of these linkers showed that they proceed at a higher rate in solvent systems containing water. The scope and limits of the aza-Michael reactions of 3 and 10 were examined. Reagents 3 and 10 reacted cleanly with piperazine to give the corresponding adducts which were deprotected to give the di-HOPO ligands 7 and 16. Reaction of HOPO acrylamide 10 with 1,4,7-triazacyclononane gave the tris-adduct 17 which was deprotected to give the desired tris-HOPO ligand 18. Overall, the aza-Michael reactions of 3 and 10 appear to be governed not only by the solvent but also by the nature of the amine and the solubility of the reaction intermediates.

Abstract
A highly efficient one-pot synthesis of enantiomerically enriched 2-aryl-2,3-dihydroquinolin-4(1H)-ones has been carried out for the first time using per-6-ABCD as a supramolecular host, chiral base catalyst, and a reusable promoter to give the corresponding scaffold with high yield (up to 99%) and enantiomeric excess (up to 99%). The catalyst is recovered and reused without loss in its activity.

Abstract
[reaction: see text] Catalyst-free conjugate addition of thiols to alpha,beta-unsaturated carbonyl compounds in water is reported. beta-Sulfido carbonyl compounds were formed at room temperature, in short times and with excellent chemoselectivity. Competitive dithiane/dithiolane formation, transesterification, and ester cleavage were not observed. Water played a dual role in simultaneously activating the alpha,beta-unsaturated carbonyl compound and the thiol. This new methodology constitutes an easy, highly efficient, and green synthesis of beta-sulfido carbonyl compounds.

Abstract
An environmentally benign and highly efficient procedure for the nucleophilic addition of trimethylsilyl cyanide to imines (Strecker reaction) has been developed under biomimetic conditions in water in the presence of beta-cyclodextrin to afford alpha-aminonitriles in quantitative yields. The use of cyclodextrin precludes the use of either acid or base, and the catalyst can be recycled a number of times without loss in activity.
