Abstract
Dinuclear heteroleptic alkaline-earth-metal complexes are interesting synthetic targets because the close proximity of two metals allows for cooperative effects. However, these complexes are also prone to undergoing Schlenk-type rearrangements, affording less-active homoleptic complexes. Here we present the metalation of bis(β-diketimine) ligands possessing flexible bridging groups, i.e., 1,2-ethylene, 1,3-propylene, and trans-1,2-cyclohexylene, using calcium and magnesium precursors. Four mononuclear homoleptic calcium complexes were obtained, highlighting the pronounced tendency of calcium to undergo Schlenk-like redistributions. In the case of magnesium, however, the bridging group plays a crucial role, yielding seven dinuclear heteroleptic complexes but also one mononuclear and one dinuclear homoleptic complexes. In addition, a trinuclear mixed heteroleptic-homoleptic magnesium complex, which is a rare example of an intermediate of the Schlenk equilibrium, was isolated.

Abstract
We report the synthesis, characterization, and reactivity of a new low-symmetry β-diketimine featuring a pendant amino(methyl)phenol donor and its corresponding heteroleptic rare-earth (RE) complexes. This includes the first structurally characterized examples of alcoholysis and insertion from an isolated REIII amide in a β-diketimine framework. The flexible methylene linkage leads to REIII complexes with tunable dynamic solution behavior that defines their stoichiometric and catalytic reactivity. The addition of a strong neutral donor ligand, tricyclohexylphosphine oxide, suppresses a prevalent catalyst degradation pathway (base-promoted elimination) and dramatically enhances the catalyst performance in the stereospecific ring-opening polymerization of rac-β-butyrolactone. Our results further demonstrate the importance of ligand reorganization in the stoichiometric and catalytic activity of REIII ions.

Abstract
The synthesis of two different types of bis(N,N',N'-substituted 1,2-ethanediamine)s, bridged either through the secondary (type 1) or tertiary (type 2) amine groups is reported. Selected protio-ligands have been applied in subsequent metallation reactions using aluminium, magnesium, tin, and zinc sources allowing to isolate five mononuclear and eight dinuclear complexes. All complexes have been fully characterized and their solid-state structures have been studied by means of single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Nine of the 13 complexes carry reactive alkyl, amide or hydride groups, which indicates their potential as catalysts or supports for (transition) metals.

Abstract
A library of ten dinucleating bis(amidine) and bis(guanidine) ligands, in which the bridging groups, terminal rests, and backbone substituents were systematically altered, has been synthesized and subsequently applied in metallation reactions using three different magnesium sources. Eight Mg complexes could be isolated and fully characterized, and in seven cases their solid-state structure could be determined by means of single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The results evidence a versatile coordination behaviour, which ranges from the first dinuclear heteroleptic magnesium iodide complex to dinuclear homoleptic complexes. These findings indicate the crucial impact of both the ligand and the magnesium source not only on the accessibility of well-defined dinuclear complexes but also on the aggregation in solution and in the solid state.

Abstract
Polytopic ligands have become ubiquitous in coordination chemistry because they grant access to a variety of mono- and polynuclear complexes of transition metals as well as rare-earth and main-group elements. Nitrogen-based ditopic ligands, in which two monoanionic N,N-binding sites are framed within one molecule, are of particular importance and are therefore the primary focus of this review. In detail, bis(amidine)s, bis(guanidine)s, bis(β-diimine)s, bis(aminotroponimine)s, bis(pyrrolimine)s, and miscellaneous bis(N,N-chelating) ligands are reviewed. In addition to the general synthetic protocols, the application of these ligands is discussed along with their coordination chemistry, the multifarious binding modes, and the ability of these ligands to bridge two (or more) metal(loids).

Abstract
The monoamido lanthanide complexes stabilized by Schiff base ligand L(2)LnN(TMS)(2) (L = 3,5-Bu(t)(2)-2-(O)-C(6)H(2)CH═N-8-C(9)H(6)N, Ln = Yb (1), Y (2), Eu (3), Nd (4), and La (5)) were synthesized in good yields by the reactions of Ln[N(TMS)(2)](3) with 1.8 equiv of HL in hexane at room temperature. It was found that the stability of 1-5 depends greatly on the size of the lanthanide metals with the increasing trend of Yb ≈ Y < Nd < La. The amine elimination of Ln[N(TMS)(2)](3) with the bulky bidentate Schiff base HL' (L' = 3,5-Bu(t)(2)-2-(O)-C(6)H(2)CH═N-2,6-Pr(i)(2)-C(6)H(3)) afforded the monoamido lanthanide complexes L'(2)LnN(TMS)(2) (Ln = Yb (9), Y (10), Nd (11), and La (12)). While the amine elimination with the less bulky Schiff base HL'' (L'' = 3,5-Bu(t)(2)-2-(O)-C(6)H(2)CH═N-2,6-Me(2)-C(6)H(3)) yielded the desired monoamido complexes with the small metals of Y and Yb, L''(2)LnN(TMS)(2) (Ln = Yb (13) and Y (14)), and the more stable tris-Schiff base complexes with the large metals of La and Nd, yielded L''(3)Ln as the only product. Complexes 1-14 were fully characterized including X-ray crystal structural analysis. Complexes 1-5, 10, and 14 can serve as the efficient catalysts for addition of amines to carbodiimides, and the catalytic activity is greatly affected by the lanthanide metals with the active sequence of Yb < Y < Eu ≈ Nd ≈ La.

Abstract
The incorporation of rigid aromatic linkers into β-diketiminate ligands creates a binucleating scaffold that holds two metals near each other. This paper discloses the synthesis, characterization, and reactivity of mBin(2-), which has a meta-substituted xylylene spacer, and pBin(2-), which has a para-substituted xylylene spacer. Lithium, aluminum, and zinc complexes of each ligand are isolated, and in some cases are characterized by X-ray crystallography. The lithium complexes are coordinated to solvent-derived THF ligands, while the zinc and aluminum complexes have alkyl ligands. Complexes of the mBin(2-) ligand have an anti conformation in which the metals are on opposite sides of the macrocycle, while pBin(2-) complexes prefer a syn conformation. The (1)H NMR spectra of the complexes demonstrate that the conformations rapidly interconvert in the lithium complexes, and less rapidly in the zinc and aluminum complexes.

Abstract
Reaction of YI(3)(THF)(3.5) with one equivalent of the potassium beta-diketiminate (BDI) complex [HC{C(CH(3))NAr}(2)K] (Ar = 2,6-Pr(i)(2)C(6)H(3)) affords the monomeric, mono-substituted yttrium BDI complex [HC{C(CH(3))NAr}(2)YI(2)(THF)] in good yield. Reaction of with DME affords [HC{C(CH(3))NAr}(2)YI(2)(DME)] in quantitative yield, which is monomeric also. Reaction of the primary terphenyl phosphane Ar*PH(2) (Ar* = 2,6-(2,4,6-Pr(i)(3)C(6)H(2))(2)C(6)H(3)) with potassium hydride, and recrystallisation from hexane, affords the potassium primary terphenyl phosphanide complex [{Ar*P(H)K(THF)}(2)] in high yield. Compound is dimeric in the solid state, constructed around a centrosymmetric K(2)P(2) four-membered ring, the coordination sphere of potassium is supplemented with an eta(6) K[dot dot dot]C(aryl) interaction. The reaction of with one molar equivalent of in THF affords the THF ring-opened compound [HC{C(CH(3))NAr}(2)Y{O(CH(2))(4)P(H)Ar*}(I)(THF)]. Compound is formed as a mixture of endo(OR) and exo(OR) isomers (: = approximately 2 : 1) which may be separated by fractional crystallisation from hexane-toluene to give pure . Attempted alkylation of with two equivalents of KCH(2)Si(CH(3))(3) affords the potassium yttriate complex [Y{micro-eta(5):eta(1)-ArNC(CH(3))[double bond, length as m-dash]CHC([double bond, length as m-dash]CH(2))NAr}(2)K(DME)(2)] in moderate yield; contains two dianionic dianilide ligands, which are derived from C-H activation of a backbone methyl group, each bonded eta(5) to yttrium in the solid state. The reaction of with one equivalent of KC(8) affords [{HC(C[CH(3)]NAr)(2)YI(micro-OCH(3))}(2)], derived from C-O bond activation of DME, as the only isolable product in very low yield. Compounds , , , , , and have been characterised by single crystal X-ray diffraction, NMR spectroscopy and CHN microanalyses.

Abstract
The synthesis and catalytic activity of lanthanide monoamido complexes supported by a beta-diketiminate ligand are described. Donor solvents, such as DME, can cleave the chloro bridges of the dinuclear beta-diketiminate ytterbium dichloride {[(DIPPh)2nacnac]YbCl(mu-Cl)3Yb[(DIPPh)2nacnac](THF)} (1) [(DIPPh)2nacnac = N,N-diisopropylphenyl-2,4-pentanediimine anion] to produce the monomeric complex [(DIPPh)2nacnac]YbCl2(DME) (2) in high isolated yield. Complex 2 is a useful precursor for the synthesis of beta-diketiminate-ytterbium monoamido derivatives. Reaction of complex 2 with 1 equiv of LiNPri2 in THF at room temperature, after crystallization in THF/toluene mixed solvent, gave the anionic beta-diketiminate-ytterbium amido complex [(DIPPh)2nacnac]Yb(NPri2)(mu-Cl)2Li(THF)2 (3), while similar reaction of complex 2 with LiNPh2 produced the neutral complex [(DIPPh)2nacnac]Yb(NPh2)Cl(THF) (4). Recrystallization of complex 3 from toluene solution at elevated temperature led to the neutral beta-diketiminate-lanthanide amido complex [{(DIPPh)2nacnac}Yb(NPri2)(mu-Cl)]2 (5). The reaction medium has a significant effect on the outcome of the reaction. Complex 2 reacted with 1 equiv of LiNPri2 and LiNC5H10 in toluene to produce directly the neutral beta-diketiminate-lanthanide amido complexes 5 and [{(DIPPh)2nacnac}Yb(NC5H10)(THF)(mu-Cl)]2 (6), respectively. These complexes were well characterized, and their crystal structures were determined. Complexes 4-6 exhibited good catalytic activity for the polymerization of methyl methacrylate and epsilon-caprolactone.

Abstract
A series of racemic N-aryl-substituted trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexyl (t-1,2-DACH)-linked bis(amidines) were synthesised and their solution behaviour, and solid-state structures were investigated. The amidine functionalities within these compounds were extremely sterically hindered, with ortho-aryl substitution found to hinder N-Ar bond rotation. The results of these studies were used to rationalise the lack of reactivity of these compounds with [Y{N(SiMe(3))(2)}(3)]. Dilithiation of the t-1,2-DACH linked bis(amidines) did, however, proceed easily and the solution behaviour and solid-state structures of the resulting THF-solvated lithium amidinates were investigated. All the compounds showed similar structures in the solid-state, while NMR experiments indicated that the solid-state structures were likely to be maintained in solution. Attempted metathesis reactions with YCl(3) did not, however, yield the desired yttrium chloride complexes.
