Abstract
The development of catalysts has significantly advanced the progress of polyolefin materials. In particular, group 4 (Ti, Zr, Hf) non-metallocene catalysts ligated with [N,N] bidentate ligand(s) have garnered increasing attention in the field of olefin polymerization due to their structurally stability and exceptional polymerization behaviors. Ligands containing nitrogen donors are diverse and at the core of many highly active catalysts. They mainly include amidine, guanidinato, diamine, and various N-heterocyclic ligands, which can be used to obtain a series of new polyolefin materials, such as ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene (UHWMPE), olefin copolymers (ethylene/norbornene and ethylene/α-olefin) with high incorporations, and high isotactic or syndiotactic polypropylene after coordination with group 4 metals and activation by cocatalysts. Herein, we focus on the advancements and applications of this field over the past two decades, and introduce the catalyst precursors with [N,N] ligand(s), involving the effects of ligand structure, cocatalyst selection, and polymerization conditions on the catalytic activity and polymer properties.

Abstract
Metalation of N-(2,6-dibenzhydryl-4-tolyl)adamantane-1-carboxamide (1, Ar*N(H)-C(O)-Ad) with M(NMe2)4 (M = Ti, Zr, Hf) yields amidate complexes Ar*N=C(Ad)-O-Ti(NMe2)3 (2) as well as bis(amidate) compounds (Ar*N=C(Ad)-O)2M(NMe2)2 (M = Zr (3), Hf (4)). In 2, the amidate ligand acts as a monodentate base via the oxygen atom with the Ti center in a slightly distorted tetrahedral environment. The steric requirement of the amidate ligand stabilizes the small coordination number of four of the Ti atom. In congeners 3 and 4, two bidentate amidate ligands exist in the coordination spheres, leading to hexacoordinate group IV metal atoms. The small bite angles of the Zr- and Hf-bound amidate ligands lead to severe distortion of the octahedral environments of the Zr and Hf centers. Titanium compound 2 is an unsuitable choice to catalyze hydrofunctionalization of alkynes with amines and phosphane oxides and despite the significantly smaller pKa value of the carboxylic amide, formation of carboxamide 1 is the dominant reaction upon addition of amines or phosphane oxides to release intramolecular steric strain introduced by the very bulky adamantylamidato ligand.

Abstract
A series of titanium and zirconium bis(amidate) complexes of the type L2MX2, where L is an amidate ligand, and X is either –NMe2 or –Cl, were prepared in 60%–83% yield and fully characterized. Multiple binding motifs are observed as the amidate ligand can bind in κ1- and κ2-modes. These complexes were then subjected to screening the catalytic polymerization of ethylene. All catalysts, after reaction with suitable co-catalyst, were functional for ethylene polymerization, though not for the copolymerization of ethylene and longer linear 1-alkenes. Polyethylene was formed in the range of 1000–4000 kDa, and with PDI values as low as 1.3. These long polymeric chains are considered as ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE).
