Abstract
Tetrafunctionalized calix[4]resorcinarene cavitands commonly serve as supramolecular scaffolds for construction of coordination-driven self-assembled capsules. However, due to the calix-like shape, the structural diversity of assemblies is mostly restricted to dimeric and hexameric capsules. Previously, we reported a spontaneous heteroleptic complexation strategy based on a pair of self-recognizable terpyridine-based ligands and CdII ions. Building on this complementary ligand pairing system, herein three types of nanocapsules, including a dimeric capsule, a Sierpiński triangular prism, and a cubic star, could be readily obtained through dynamic complexation reactions between a tetratopic cavitand-based ligand and various multitopic counterparts in the presence of CdII ions. The dimeric capsular assemblies display the spacer-length-dependent self-sorting behavior in a four-component system. Moreover, the precise multicomponent self-assembly of a Sierpiński triangular prism and a cubic star possessing three and six cavitand-based motifs, respectively, demonstrates that such self-assembly methodology is able to efficiently enhance architectural complexity for calix[4]resorcinarene-containing metallo-supramolecules.

Abstract
Construction of large multi-component coordination cages becomes much more challenging as the number of building blocks increases. A giant hexameric calix[4]resorcinarene-based coordination cage (cage-1) was successfully designed through the precise tuning of ancillary rigid tetracarboxylic acid. Significantly, cage-1 exhibited reversible uptake of volatile iodine, suggesting that it could serve as a porous material for efficient capture and separation of radioactive iodine.

Abstract
Coordinative halogen bonds have recently gained interest for the assembly of supramolecular capsules. Ion mobility-mass spectrometry and theoretical calculations now reveal the well-defined gas-phase structures of dimeric and hexameric [N···I+···N] halogen-bonded capsules with counterions located inside their cavities as guests. The solution reactivity of the large hexameric capsule shows the intriguing solvent-dependent equilibrium between the hexamer and an unprecedented pentameric [N···I+···N] halogen-bonded capsule, when the solvent is changed from chloroform to dichloromethane. The intrinsic flexibility of the cavitands enables this novel structure to adopt a pseudo-trigonal bipyramidal geometry with nine [N···I+···N] bonds along the edges and two pyridine binding sites uncomplexed.

Abstract
A new chromogenic, self-assembled molecular capsule G@22is developed by introducing four (N,N-dimethyl-4-aminophenyl) azobenzyl moieties on the upper rim of a resorcin[4]arene-based amidoimino-cavitand. The tuning of conjugation between amido and (N,N-dimethyl-4-aminophenyl)azobenzyl groups by acid–base titration allows naked-eye observation of molecular capsule formation.

Abstract
Heterofunctionalized C(2v) symmetrical cavitand 1 with 4-pyridylethynyl and 3-carbamoylphenyl groups in alternating arrangement was designed and synthesized. A 1:1 mixture of the cavitand 1 and a cis-coordinated palladium(II) or platinum(II) complex self-assembled into a hybrid supramolecular capsule via both metal-ligand coordination bonds and hydrogen bonds. Formation of the capsular assembly was confirmed by NMR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry. The hybrid capsule encapsulated the appropriate guest, the molecular sizes of which fit the size of the capsular cavity. Structural alteration of the hybrid capsule was induced by the guest encapsulation. A C(2h) structure for the encapsulation complex was assigned by 2D NMR spectra analysis. Thermodynamic and kinetic properties of the guest encapsulation were investigated. The kinetics of in/out guest exchange was strongly influenced by hydrogen bonding in the hybrid capsule.
