Abstract
Zinc(II) and cadmium(II) chlorido complexes with an N,N-chelating nopinane-annelated 4,5-diazafluoren-9-one ligand (LO) were synthesized. While the zinc(II) complex is mononuclear and adopts a tetrahedral ZnN2Cl2 coordination geometry, its cadmium(II) analogue features a 1D polymeric structure due to the bridging coordination of chlorido ligands with Cd2+ ions having an octahedral CdN2Cl4 coordination geometry. The photophysical properties of the oxygen-containing LO ligand and its zinc(II) and cadmium(II) complexes were studied in solution and in the solid state and matched against the properties of its oxygen-free 4,5-diazafluorene congener L and its complexes of the same metal ions. Comprehensive experimental and theoretical studies revealed the impact of the oxygen atom in the ligand core on the luminescence of the ligands and the complexes. For the oxygen-free L ligand and L-based complexes, the structural differences between the S0 and S1 geometries are small, which leads to fluorescence with extraordinarily small Stokes shifts. The emission of these compounds is of locally excited character for L and of mixed locally excited + ligand-to-halide charge transfer character for the L-based complexes. The introduction of the oxygen atom in the ligand core results in a drastic red-shift of the emission band due to short-range charge transfer. The differences between the S0 and S1 geometries are much more pronounced for LO and LO-based compounds than those of their oxygen-free analogues, leading to an order of magnitude larger Stokes shifts. On going from solution to the solid state, LO and its complexes exhibit aggregation-induced emission (AIE) behaviour with photoluminescence quantum yields (PLQYs) reaching tens of percent.

Abstract
For the first time, the success of a methodology for the determination of enantiomeric excess (% ee) in chiral solid samples by vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) spectroscopy is reported. We have used camphor to determine the % ee in a blind sample constituted by a mixture of its two enantiomers as a test for the validity of our approach. IR and VCD spectra of different enantiomeric mixtures of R/S-camphor in Nujol mulls were recorded and linear regressions of VCD intensities (ΔAbs.) vs. % ee for selected bands were found. Finally, the VCD intensities of a blind sample were interpolated in these linear regressions, obtaining its % ee with a rms of 2.4. These results in the solid phase were complemented with the determination of % ee in the liquid phase by VCD and NMR techniques, which are proved to be complementary techniques to carry out this kind of analysis. In the same way as in the VCD solid phase, linear regressions of ΔAbs. vs. % ee for selected bands were established, obtaining a rms of 1.1 in the % ee determination of a blind sample. 1H NMR experiments at 600 MHz using the chiral solvating agent, (S,S)-ABTE, allow the determination of the proportions of enantiomers in CD2Cl2 solution with great accuracy. 13C CPMAS NMR spectra prove that this technique cannot be used for conglomerates and/or solid solutions.

Abstract
The π-conjugated tetrathiafulvalene (TTF) annulated ligand was introduced into a dicyanometallate for the first time, leading to the synthesis of the versatile redox-active dicyanideferrite building block [(n-Bu)4N][Fe(TTFbp)(CN)2] (H2TTFbp = N-(2-(4,5-bis(methylthio)-1,3-dithiol-2-ylidene)-5-(picolinamido) benzo[d][1,3]dithiol-6-yl) picol inamide). The incorporation of the new precursor with chiral MnIII Schiff-base complexes resulted in two enantiopure one-dimensional complexes, [Mn((R,R)-salphen)Fe(TTFbp)(CN)2]n (2-(RR)) and [Mn((S,S)-salphen)Fe(TTFbp)(CN)2]n (2-(SS)) (Salphen = N,N'-1,2-diphenylethylene-bis(salicylideneiminato) dianion), which were synthesized and structurally characterized. Circular dichroism (CD) and vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) spectra confirmed the enantiomeric nature of the optically active complexes, and structural analyses revealed the formation of neutral cyanide-bridged double chains in 2-(RR) and 2-(SS). Solution and solid state CV studies revealed the redox-active characteristics of the complexes. Antiferromagnetic couplings were detected between FeIII and MnIII centers within a chain, and a field-induced magnetic phase transition was observed (TN = 4.8 K). The introduction of electroactivity and chirality into cyanide-bridged complexes with interesting magnetic properties leads the way towards new multifunctional materials.

Abstract
The present article reviews the results on the application of vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) spectroscopy to the study of stereochemical properties of chiral metal complexes in solution. The chiral characters reflecting on the vibrational properties of metal complexes are revealed by measurements of a series of β-diketonato complexes with the help of theoretical calculation. Attention is paid to the effects of electronic properties of a central metal ion on vibrational energy levels or low-lying electronic states. The investigation is further extended to the oligomers of β-diketonato complex units. The induction of chiral structures is confirmed by the VCD spectra when chiral inert moieties are connected with labile metal ions. These results have demonstrated how VCD spectroscopy is efficient in revealing the static and dynamic properties of mononuclear and multinuclear chiral metal complexes, which are difficult to clarify by means of other spectroscopes.
