Abstract
An asymmetric mixed valence fluorophore with two different electron rich termini was investigated as a dual-role active material for electrochromism and electrofluorochromism. The fluorescence quantum yield (Φfl) and emission wavelength of the fluorophore were dependent on solvent polarity. The quantum yield of the material in an electrolyte gel, on a glass substrate and in a device was 40 %, 20 % and 13 % respectively. The fluorophore further underwent two near-simultaneous electrochemical oxidations. The first oxidation resulted in a 1000 nm red shift in the absorption to broadly absorb in the NIR, corresponding to the intervalence charge transfer (IVCT). Whereas the second oxidation led to a perceived green color at 715 nm with the extinction of the NIR absorbing IVCT. Owing to the dissymmetry of the fluorophore along with its two unique oxidation sites, the IVCT gives rise to a mixed valence transfer charge (MVCT). The coloration efficiency of the fluorophore in both solution and a device was 1433 and 200 cm2 C-1, respectively. The fluorescence intensity could be reversibly modulated electrochemically. The photoemission intensity of the fluorophore was modulated with applied potential in an operating electrochromic/electrofluorochromic device. Both the dual electrochromic and the electrofluorochromic behavior of the fluorophore were demonstrated.

Abstract
We report a novel series of vinylene-linked DPP compounds (1-5) formed via Knoevenagel condensation of dimethyl DPP (6) with various aromatic aldehydes. Incorporating the vinylene linkage and photo- and electro-active groups offered the distinct advantage of extending π-delocalization, resulting in deep-coloured solids with absorption maxima extending to 620-680 nm and low redox potentials. The DPP-triphenylamine compound (5) showed electrochromism in the near-infrared region. The colour of the solution changed from blue to green, and the absorption from 680 nm to 740 nm, leading to NIR-to-NIR absorption switching. This system exhibits rapid switching, swift response times (1.4 s and 1.2 s), and reversibility in electrochromic behaviour.

Abstract
Aromatic polyimide (PI) derivatives have recently been investigated as redox-active electrode materials for Li-ion batteries because of their high thermal stability and thermo-oxidative stability complemented by excellent solvent resistance, good electrical and mechanical properties, and chemical resistance. In this work, we report two PI derivatives from a newly synthesized 4,4'-diamino-3″,4″-dicyanotriphenylamine (DiCN-TPA) monomer and two dianhydrides, pyromellitic dianhydride (PMDA) and 1,4,5,8-naphthalenetetracarboxylic dianhydride (NTCDA); designated as TPA-PMPI and TPA-NTCPI, respectively, as electrode materials for Li-ion batteries. Characterizations of the PIs reveal excellent thermal stability and bipolar property. The incorporation of DiCN-TPA into the polymer structure resulted to a disordered chain arrangement, thus giving high glass transition temperatures (Tg). Electrochemical performance tests reveal that TPA-NTCPI cathode delivered a reversible specific capacity of 150 mAh g-1 at 0.1 A g-1 and exhibited a stability up to 1000 cycles. On the other hand, TPA-PMPI anode delivered a high specific capacity of up to 1600 mAh g-1 at 0.1 A g-1 after 100 cycles. The electrochemical performance of TPA-NTCPI cathode and TPA-PMPI anode are both among the best compared with other reported aromatic PI-based electrodes. The long cycle lifetime and excellent battery performance further suggest that TPA-NTCPI and TPA-PMPI are promising organic electrode materials for next generation Li-ion batteries.

Abstract
Nucleophilic aromatic substitution (SNAr) reactions can provide metal-free access to synthesize monosubstituted aromatic compounds. We developed efficient SNAr conditions for p-selective substitution of polyfluoroarenes with phenothiazine in the presence of a mild base to afford the corresponding 10-phenylphenothiazine (PTH) derivatives. The resulting polyfluoroarene-bearing PTH derivatives were subjected to a second SNAr reaction to generate highly functionalized PTH derivatives with potential applicability as photocatalysts for the reduction of carbon–halogen bonds.

Abstract
A copper-catalyzed, directed ortho C-H diarylamination of indoles, indolines, anilines, and N-aryl-7-azaindoles has been established. Only copper salt as the catalyst and oxygen as the terminal oxidant are used to synthesize triarylamines using various diarylamines including carbazole and phenothiazine. Mechanistic interrogation reveals that copper plays a dual role.

Electrooxidative para-selective C-H/N-H cross-coupling with hydrogen evolution to synthesize triarylamine derivatives. Nat Commun 2019; 10:639. Abstract
Oxidative C–H/N–H cross-coupling is one of the most atom-economical methods for the construction of C–N bonds. However, traditional oxidative C–H/N–H cross-coupling either required the use of strong oxidants or high reaction temperature, which makes it difficult to tolerate redox active functional groups. Herein we describe an external chemical oxidant-free electrooxidative C–H/N–H cross-coupling between electron-rich arenes and diarylamine derivatives. Under undivided electrolytic conditions, a series of triarylamine derivatives are produced from electron-rich arenes and diarylamine derivatives with high functional group tolerance. Both of the coupling partners are redox active in oxidative C–H/N–H cross-coupling, which enables high regioselectivity in C–N bond formation. Exclusive para-selectivity is observed for the coupling with anilines. Oxidative C–H/N–H cross-coupling is a convenient method to construct C–N bonds, however this is rarely achieved in a sustainable manner. Here, the authors show an oxidant-free electrochemical C–H/N–H cross-coupling between electron-rich arenes and diarylamines to afford triarylamines with exclusive para-selectivity.

Abstract
Dehydrogenative C-H/N-H cross-coupling serves as one of the most straightforward and atom-economical approaches for C-N bond formation. In this work, an electrochemical reaction protocol has been developed for the oxidative C-H amination of unprotected phenols under undivided electrolytic conditions. Neither metal catalysts nor chemical oxidants are needed to facilitate the dehydrogenation process. A series of triarylamine derivatives could be obtained with good functional-group tolerance. The electrolysis is scalable and can be performed at ambient conditions.

Abstract
In this study, four novel donor⁻acceptor systems, 4-(2,3-dihydrothieno[3,4-b][1,4]dioxin -5-yl)-N-(4-(2,3-dihydrothieno[3,4-b][1,4]dioxin-5-yl)phenyl)-N-(4-nitrophenyl)aniline (NETPA), 4- (4-methoxythiophen-2-yl)-N-(4-(4-methoxythiophen-2-yl)phenyl)-N-(4-nitrophenyl)aniline (NMOTPA), 4-(4-methylthiophen-2-yl)-N-(4-(4-methylthiophen-2-yl)phenyl)-N-(4-nitrophenyl) aniline (NMTPA) and 4-nitro-N,N-bis(4-(thiophen-2-yl)phenyl)aniline (NTTPA), were successfully synthesized by Stille coupling reaction and electropolymerized to obtain highly stable conducting polymers, PNETPA, PNMOTPA, PNMTPA and PNTTPA, respectively. The polymers were characterized using cyclic voltammetry (CV), step profiling and UV⁻Vis⁻NIR spectroscopy. The band gaps (Eg values) were 1.34, 1.59, 2.26, and 2.34 eV, for PNETPA, PNMOTPA, PNMTPA and PNTTPA, respectively. In addition, electrochromic switching showed that all polymers exhibit outstanding optical contrasts, high coloration efficiencies and fast switching speeds in the near-infrared region (NIR). These properties make the polymers suitable materials for electrochromic applications in NIR region.

Abstract
Organic electrochromic materials have gained constantly increasing interest over the years with respect to their inorganic counterpart due to essentially two distinctive characteristics: their processability through solution based low cost processes and their wide colour palette. Such characteristic features enabled their application in displays, smart windows, electronic paper and ophthalmic lenses. Alongside the established concept of donor-acceptor polymers, side chain functionalized multichromophoric polymers are gaining attention as a highly performing and synthetically feasible alternative, particularly relevant to applications requiring a complete colourlessness in one of the accessible redox states of the material. The primary aim of the present article is to review all the results involving the tuning of the native electrochromic properties of simple conjugated polymers through the introduction of a discrete electrochromic molecule as a side chain substituent.
