Abstract
A new synthesis of N-fused tetracyclic indole derivatives and their related polycyclic analogues has been developed based on ruthenium(II)-catalyzed C-H activation and intramolecular hydroarylation. A series of polycyclic indoles with a 3-formyl group have been prepared in good to high yields. Various aliphatic and aromatic amines have been studied to form a transient directing group with the aldehyde for the catalytic process. A significant impact of the structures of the aromatic amines was identified, and 1-naphthylamine was shown to enable the catalytic process. DFT computations were performed to gain further insight into the role of the transient directing groups.

Abstract
An efficient Mizoroki-Heck/amination cascade reaction of o-dihaloarenes with cyclic imines was realized by combining nickel and a sterically bulky N-heterocyclic carbene ligand. This protocol provides access to a variety of indole[2,1-a]isoquinolines from readily available starting materials. This cascade approach could be applied to produce straightforward synthesis of the natural product cryptowoline.

We report a Pd-catalyzed
route to heterocycles bearing a tetrasubstituted
alkene fragment. Our approach merges the intramolecular carbopalladation
of tethered alkynes with an alkylation step produced by the C–C
cleavage of cyclobutanol derivatives. An alkenyl-Pd(II) intermediate
has been isolated and characterized by X-ray diffraction studies.
Interestingly, the nature of the tethering alkynyl chain influences
the E/Z stereochemistry of the alkenyl
fragment in the functionalized heterocycles.

Abstract
A general synthesis of 1-vinyltetrahydro-β-carbolines (THBCs) has been achieved via palladium(0)-catalyzed cyclocondensation between allenyltryptamines and aryl iodides. Aza-spiroindolenines could also be accessed from the N-unsubstituted indole substrates by simply tweaking the reaction conditions. DDQ-mediated oxidation of THBCs easily afforded β-carbolines, which could be synthetically transformed into 1-aroyl-β-carbolines of pharmacological interest. Formal total syntheses of eudistomins Y1 and Y2 have also been achieved.

Abstract
A catalytic 1,6-nucleophilic addition/annulation cascade was developed for the first time, and used to produce 27 hitherto unreported ethylene-linked 1-naphthol-imidazole pairs with generally good yields and complete stereoselectivity. An Ag2O-catalyzed reaction of yne-allenone esters with tosylmethyl isocyanide proceeded efficiently, and provided a simple and convergent protocol for the synthesis of fully substituted (Z)-ethylenes whereas tetrasubstituted (E)-ethylenes were obtained when ethyl isocyanoacetate was employed in this transformation. The reaction pathway consists of [2+2] cycloaddition, 1,6-nucleophilic addition and [3+2] cycloaddition, leading to continuous multiple bond-forming events including C-C and C-N bonds to construct complex molecules.

Abstract
The first Pd-catalyzed multicomponent reaction of aryl iodides, alkenyl bromides, and strained alkenes has been developed, which allowed us to synthesize a variety of multisubsituted olefins in yields of 45-96% with excellent stereoselectivity. The configuration of the product was controlled by the configuration of the alkenyl bromides. Moreover, this practical methodology employing readily available substrates was found to be tolerant to a wide range of functional groups. Fifty six examples of highly stereoselective tri- or tetrasubstituted olefins have been successfully synthesized via this methodology. Most of the synthesized tetrasubstituted olefins are good aggregation-induced emission (AIE) luminogens.

Abstract
A versatile strategy for C7-selective boronation of tryptophans, tryptamines, and 3-alkylindoles by way of a single-pot C2/C7-diboronation-C2-protodeboronation sequence is described. The combination of a mild iridium-catalyzed C2/C7-diboronation followed by an in situ palladium-catalyzed C2-protodeboronation allows efficient entry to valuable C7-boroindoles that enable further C7-derivatization. The versatility of the chemistry is highlighted by the gram-scale synthesis of C7-boronated N-Boc-L-tryptophan methyl ester and the rapid synthesis of C7-halo, C7-hydroxy, and C7-aryl tryptophan derivatives.

Abstract
Rather u(Ni)que: Two new C-H alkenylation reactions, that is C-H/C-O alkenylation and decarbonylative C-H alkenylation, of azoles are uniquely catalyzed by Ni/dcype. These azole alkenylation reactions are successfully applied to the convergent formal synthesis of siphonazole B.

Abstract
The scope and the generality of gold versus silver catalyzed intramolecular hydroarylation reactions of 3-[(3-arylprop-2-ynyl)oxy]benzene derivatives in terms of rings substitution were investigated. Only products deriving from 6-endo cyclization were exclusively formed. The features of substituents had a considerable effect on the reaction outcome in the presence of silver catalysis, whereas gold catalysis revealed a unique blend of reactivity and selectivity and represented the only choice for the intramolecular hydroarylation reaction of the starting substrates bearing electron deficient arenes.
