Evaluating the halogen bonding strength of a iodoloisoxazolium(III) salt

Diaryliodonium(III) salts have been established as powerful halogen-bond donors in recent years. Herein, a new structural motif for this compound class was developed: iodoloisoxazolium salts, bearing a cyclic five-membered iodolium core fused with an isoxazole ring. A derivative of this class was synthesized and investigated in the solid state by X-ray crystallography. Finally, the potential as halogen-bonding activator was benchmarked in solution in the gold-catalyzed cyclization of a propargyl amide.

The Potential of Self-Activating Au(I) Complexes in Gold Catalysis

Gold catalysis has emerged as a groundbreaking field in synthetic chemistry, revolutionizing numerous organic transformations. Despite the significant achieved advancements, the mechanistic understanding behind many gold-catalyzed reactions remains elusive. This Concept article covers the so-called "self-activating" Au(I) complexes, sorting out their pivotal role in gold catalysis. We comment on how Au(I) complexes can undergo self-activation, triggering diverse catalytic transformations without the need for external additives. The most important examples reported so far that underlie the catalytic activity of these species are discussed. This intrinsic reactivity represents a paradigm shift in gold catalysis, offering new avenues for the design of efficient and sustainable catalytic systems. Furthermore, we explore the factors influencing the stability, reactivity, and selectivity of these Au(I) complexes, providing insights into their synthetic utility and potential applications. This area of research not only advances our fundamental understanding of gold catalysis but also paves the way for the development of novel catalytic strategies with broad implications in organic synthesis and the chemical industry.

Iridium complexes of an ortho-trifluoromethylphenyl substituted PONOP pincer ligand

The synthesis and iridium coordination chemistry of a new pyridine-based phosphinito pincer ligand 2,6-(Ar^F₂PO)₂C₅H₃N (PONOP-Ar^F; Ar^F = 2-(CF₃)C₆H₄) are described, where the P-donors have ortho-trifluoromethylphenyl substituents. The iridium(III) 2,2'-biphenyl (biph) derivative [Ir(PONOP-Ar^F)(biph)Cl] was obtained by reaction with [Ir(biph)(COD)Cl]₂ (COD = 1,5-cyclooctadiene) and subsequent halide ion abstraction enabled isolation of [Ir(PONOP-Ar^F)(biph)]⁺ which features an Ir ← F-C bonding interaction in the solid state. Hydrogenolysis of the biphenyl ligand and formation of [Ir(PONOP-Ar^F)(H)₂]⁺ was achieved by prolonged reaction of [Ir(PONOP-Ar^F)(biph)]⁺ with dihydrogen. This transformation paved the way for isolation and crystallographic characterisation of low valent iridium derivatives through treatment of the dihydride with tert-butylethylene (TBE). The iridium(I) π-complex [Ir(PONOP-Ar^F)(TBE)]⁺ is thermally stable but substitution of TBE can be achieved by reaction with carbon monoxide. The solid-state structure of the mono-carbonyl product [Ir(PONOP-Ar^F)(CO)]⁺ is notable for an intermolecular anagostic interaction between the metal centre and a pentane molecule which co-crystallises within a cleft defined by two aryl phosphine substituents.

Gold(I)-Catalyzed Benzylic C(sp3 )-H Functionalizations: Divergent Synthesis of Indole[a]- and [b]-Fused Polycycles

Phenyl azides substituted by an (alkylphenyl)ethynyl group facilitate benzylic sp³ (C-H) functionalization in the presence of a JohnPhosAu catalyst, resulting in indole-fused tetra- and pentacycles via divergent N- or C-cyclization. The chemoselectivity is influenced depending on the counter-anion, the electron density of the α-imino gold(I) carbene, and the alkyl groups stabilizing the benzylic carbocation originating from a 1,5-hydride shift. An isotopic labeling experiment demonstrates the involvement of an indolylgold(I) species resulting from a tautomerization that is much faster than the deauration. The formation of a benzylic sp³ (C-H) functionalization leading to an indole-fused seven-membered ring is also demonstrated.

Transmetalation of boronic acids and their derivatives: mechanistic elucidation and relevance to catalysis

The Suzuki-Miyaura reaction (the cross-coupling reaction of boronic acids with organic halides catalysed by Pd complexes) has been recognised as a useful synthetic organic reaction that forms a C(sp²)-C(sp²) bond. The catalytic cycle of the reaction involves the transmetalation of aryl- and alkenylboronic acids with Pd(II) complexes. It migrates the aryl and alkenyl groups of boronic acid to Pd and produces a Pd-C bond. Many studies have investigated the mechanism of transmetalation. They elucidated the mechanism of the organometallic reaction and its role as a fundamental step in catalytic reactions. This perspective reviews studies on the transmetalation of aryl- and alkenylboronic acids with Pd(II) complexes. Emphasis was laid on the structures and chemical properties of the intermediate Pd complexes and the effects of OH^- on the pathways of the catalytic Suzuki-Miyaura reaction. The reactions of arylboronic acids with Rh(I)-OH complexes were investigated, which are relevant to the mechanism of Rh-catalysed addition of aryl boronic acids to enones and aldehydes. Recent studies on the transmetalation of boronic acids with other late transition metals such as Fe(II), Co(I), Pt(II), Au(III), and Au(I) are presented with the related catalytic reactions and their utilisation in the synthesis of aromatic molecules and π-conjugated materials.

Chemical Bonding in Homoleptic Carbonyl Cations [M{Fe(CO)5 }2 ]+ (M=Cu, Ag, Au)

Syntheses of the copper and gold complexes [Cu{Fe(CO)5 }2 ][SbF6 ] and [Au{Fe(CO)5 }2 ][HOB{3,5-(CF3 )2 C6 H3 }3 ] containing the homoleptic carbonyl cations [M{Fe(CO)5 }2 ]+ (M=Cu, Au) are reported. Structural data of the rare, trimetallic Cu2 Fe, Ag2 Fe and Au2 Fe complexes [Cu{Fe(CO)5 }2 ][SbF6 ], [Ag{Fe(CO)5 }2 ][SbF6 ] and [Au{Fe(CO)5 }2 ][HOB{3,5-(CF3 )2 C6 H3 }3 ] are also given. The silver and gold cations [M{Fe(CO)5 }2 ]+ (M=Ag, Au) possess a nearly linear Fe-M-Fe' moiety but the Fe-Cu-Fe' in [Cu{Fe(CO)5 }2 ][SbF6 ] exhibits a significant bending angle of 147° due to the strong interaction with the [SbF6 ]- anion. The Fe(CO)5 ligands adopt a distorted square-pyramidal geometry in the cations [M{Fe(CO)5 }2 ]+ , with the basal CO groups inclined towards M. The geometry optimization with DFT methods of the cations [M{Fe(CO)5 }2 ]+ (M=Cu, Ag, Au) gives equilibrium structures with linear Fe-M-Fe' fragments and D2 symmetry for the copper and silver cations and D4d symmetry for the gold cation. There is nearly free rotation of the Fe(CO)5 ligands around the Fe-M-Fe' axis. The calculated bond dissociation energies for the loss of both Fe(CO)5 ligands from the cations [M{Fe(CO)5 }2 ]+ show the order M=Au (De =137.2 kcal mol-1 )>Cu (De =109.0 kcal mol-1 )>Ag (De =92.4 kcal mol-1 ). The QTAIM analysis shows bond paths and bond critical points for the M-Fe linkage but not between M and the CO ligands. The EDA-NOCV calculations suggest that the [Fe(CO)5 ]→M+ ←[Fe(CO)5 ] donation is significantly stronger than the [Fe(CO)5 ]←M+ →[Fe(CO)5 ] backdonation. Inspection of the pairwise orbital interactions identifies four contributions for the charge donation of the Fe(CO)5 ligands into the vacant (n)s and (n)p AOs of M+ and five components for the backdonation from the occupied (n-1)d AOs of M+ into vacant ligand orbitals.

Synthesis and characterization of N-heterocyclic carbene-MOEt2 complexes (M = Cu, Ag, Au). Analysis of solvated auxiliary-ligand free [(NHC)M]+ species

We report the synthesis, characterization and computational analysis of coinage metal-ether complexes supported by N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHC), SIPr and Et2CAAC. The related water adducts are also included. The [(NHC)M]+(M = Cu, Ag, Au) species show the noteworthy ability to bind Et2O and H2O. This interaction towards Et2O and H2O is partly ascribed to a σ-hole bonding with an almost linear disposition, taking advantage of the enhanced σ-hole potential evaluated for such [(NHC)M]+ species. This enhanced ability is larger than those found for non-covalent interactions involving main group species.

Cocatalyst versus precatalyst impact on the vinyl-addition polymerization of norbornenes with polar groups: looking at the other side of the coin

Polymers derived from norbornenes with polar groups are of interest as modular templates and materials for membrane processes and microelectronic applications due to the attractive combination of their properties.

Metal-metal cooperative bond activation by heterobimetallic alkyl, aryl, and acetylide PtII/CuI complexes

We report the selective formation of heterobimetallic Pt^II/Cu^I complexes that demonstrate how facile bond activation processes can be achieved by altering the reactivity of common organoplatinum compounds through their interaction with another metal center. The interaction of the Cu center with the Pt center and with a Pt-bound alkyl group increases the stability of PtMe₂ towards undesired rollover cyclometalation. The presence of the Cu^I center also enables facile transmetalation from an electron-deficient tetraarylborate [B(Ar^F)₄]⁻ anion and mild C–H bond cleavage of a terminal alkyne, which was not observed in the absence of an electrophilic Cu center. The DFT study indicates that the Cu center acts as a binding site for the alkyne substrate, while activating its terminal C–H bond.

Organic Azide and Auxiliary-Ligand-Free Complexes of Coinage Metals Supported by N-Heterocyclic Carbenes

Organic azide complexes of copper(I) and silver(I), [(SIPr)CuN(1-Ad)NN][SbF₆], [(SIPr)CuN(2-Ad)NN][SbF₆], [(SIPr)CuN(Cy)NN][SbF₆], and [(SIPr)AgN(1-Ad)NN][SbF₆] have been synthesized by using Ag[SbF₆] and the corresponding organic azides with (SIPr)CuBr and (SIPr)AgCl (SIPr = 1,3-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imidazolin-2-ylidene). The copper and silver organic azide complexes were characterized by various spectroscopic techniques and X-ray crystallography. Group trends of isoleptic Cu(I), Ag(I), and Au(I) organic azide complexes are presented on the basis of experimental data and a detailed computational study. The ν_asym(N₃) values of the metal-bound 1-AdNNN in [(SIPr)MN(1-Ad)NN]⁺ follow the order Ag < Cu < Au. DFT calculations show that gold(I) forms the strongest bond with 1-AdNNN in this series, while silver has the weakest interaction. Furthermore, auxiliary ligand free coinage metal N-heterocyclic carbene complexes, [(SIPr)M][SbF₆], have been synthesized via metathesis reactions of (SIPr)MCl (M = Cu, Ag, Au) with Ag[SbF₆]. X-ray crystal structures of dinuclear [(SIPr)Ag]₂[SbF₆]₂ and [(SIPr)Au]₂[SbF₆]₂ are also reported. They show close metallophilic contacts. [(SIPr)Au]₂[SbF₆]₂ reacts with OEt₂, SMe₂, and CN^tBu to afford [(SIPr)Au(OEt₂)][SbF₆], [(SIPr)Au(SMe₂)][SbF₆], and [(SIPr)Au(CN^tBu)][SbF₆] adducts, respectively.

Photooxidative Generation of Dodecaborate-Based Weakly Coordinating Anions

Redox-active proanions of the type B₁₂(OCH₂Ar)₁₂ [Ar = C₆F₅ (1), 4-CF₃C₆H₄ (2), 3,5-(CF₃)₂C₆H₃ (3)] are introduced in the context of an experimental and computational study of the visible-light-initiated polymerization of a family of styrenes. Neutral, air-stable proanions 1-3 were found to initiate styrene polymerization through single-electron oxidation under blue-light irradiation, resulting in polymers with number-average molecular weights (M_n) ranging from ∼6 to 100 kDa. Shorter polymer products were observed in the majority of experiments, except in the case of monomers containing 4-X (X = F, Cl, Br) substituents on the styrene monomer when polymerized in the presence of 1 in CH₂Cl₂. Only under these specific conditions are longer polymers (>100 kDa) observed, strongly supporting the formulation that reaction conditions significantly modulate the degree of ion pairing between the dodecaborate anion and cationic chain end. This also suggests that 1-3 behave as weakly coordinating anions (WCA) upon one-electron reduction because no incorporation of the cluster-based photoinitiators is observed in the polymeric products analyzed. Overall, this work is a conceptual realization of a single reagent that can serve as a strong photooxidant, subsequently forming a WCA.

Synthesis and Applications of Perfunctionalized Boron Clusters

This Viewpoint describes major advances pertaining to perfunctionalized boron clusters in synthesis and their respective applications. The first portion of this work highlights key synthetic methods, allowing one to access a wide range of polyhedral boranes (B4 and B6-B12 cluster cores) that contain exhaustively functionalized vertices. The second portion of this Viewpoint showcases the historical developments in using these molecules for applications ranging from materials science to medicine. Last, we suggest potential new directions for these clusters as they apply to both synthetic methods and applications.

The electrophilic aromatic substitution approach to C–H silylation and C–H borylation

Several approaches toward electrophilic C–H silylation of electron-rich arenes are discussed, comprising transition-metal-catalyzed processes as well as Lewis-acid- and Brønsted-acid-induced protocols. These methods differ in the catalytic generation of the silicon electrophile but share proton removal in form of dihydrogen. With slight modifications, these methods are often also applicable to the related electrophilic C–H borylation.

Structurally versatile phosphine and amine donors constructed from N-heterocyclic olefin units

A general strategy for the synthesis of hindered N- and P-based donors is presented whereby the strongly electron releasing N-heterocyclic olefin (NHO) unit, IPr[double bond, length as m-dash]CH-, (IPr[double bond, length as m-dash]CH- = [(HCNDipp)2C[double bond, length as m-dash]CH](-); Dipp = 3,6-(i)Pr2C6H2) is linked to terminally bound phosphine and amine donors. Preliminary coordination chemistry is presented involving phosphine (IPr[double bond, length as m-dash]CH)PR2 (R = (i)Pr and Ph) and amine (IPr[double bond, length as m-dash]CH)NMe2 ligands and the Lewis acids BH3 and AuCl. Interestingly, (IPr[double bond, length as m-dash]CH)NMe2 binds AuCl through an exocyclic olefin unit, while the softer phosphorus centers in (IPr[double bond, length as m-dash]CH)PR2 coordinate to yield Au-P linkages; thus the reported NHO-based ligands exhibit tunable binding modes to metals.

Approaching monocoordination at a silver(i) cation

A series of highly electrophilic [(NHC)Ag]⁺ complexes (NHC = N-heterocyclic carbene) have been prepared which approach the limit of monocoordination for silver(i).

Role of σ,π-Digold(I) Alkyne Complexes in Reactions of Enynes

Gold(I) acetylide and σ,π-digold(I) alkyne complexes derived from one prototypical 1,6-enyne and from 7-ethynyl-1,3,5-cycloheptatriene have been prepared and structurally characterized. Their possible role in gold(I)-catalyzed cycloisomerizations has been studied by experiment and by DFT calculations. Gold(I) acetylides are totally unproductive complexes in the absence of Brønsted acids. Similarly, no cyclizations were observed by heating σ,π-digold(I) alkyne digold(I) at least up to 130 °C. Theoretical studies provide a rationale for the much lower reactivity of digold species in reactions of enynes.

Aryl Group Transfer from Tetraarylborato Anions to an Electrophilic Dicopper(I) Center and Mixed-Valence μ-Aryl Dicopper(I,II) Complexes

The synthesis of discrete, cationic binuclear μ-aryl dicopper complexes [Cu2(μ-η(1):η(1)-Ar)DPFN]X (Ar = C6H5, 3,5-(CF3)2C6H3, and C6F5; DPFN = 2,7-bis(fluoro-di(2-pyridyl)methyl)-1,8-naphthyridine; X = BAr4(-) and NTf2(-); Tf = SO2CF3) was achieved by treatment of a dicopper complex [Cu2(μ-η(1):η(1)-NCCH3)DPFN]X2 (X = PF6(-) and NTf2(-)) with tetraarylborates. Structural characterization revealed symmetrically bridging aryl groups, and (1)H NMR spectroscopy evidenced the same structure in solution at 24 °C. Electrochemical investigation of the resulting arylcopper complexes uncovered reversible redox events that led to the synthesis and isolation of a rare mixed-valence organocopper complex [Cu2(μ-η(1):η(1)-Ph)DPFN](NTf2)2 in high yield. The solid-state structure of the mixed-valence μ-phenyl complex exhibits inequivalent copper centers, despite a short Cu···Cu distance. Electronic and variable-temperature electron paramagnetic resonance spectroscopy of the mixed-valence μ-phenyl complex suggest that the degree of spin localization is temperature-dependent, with a high degree of spin localization observed at lower temperatures. Electronic structure calculations agree with the experimental results and suggest that the spin is localized almost entirely on one metal center.

Friedel-Crafts-Type Intermolecular C-H Silylation of Electron-Rich Arenes Initiated by Base-Metal Salts

An electrophilic aromatic substitution (SE Ar) with a catalytically generated silicon electrophile is reported. Essentially any commercially available base-metal salt acts as an initiator/catalyst when activated with NaBAr(F)4. The thus-generated Lewis acid then promotes the SE Ar of electron-rich arenes with hydrosilanes but not halosilanes. This new C-H silylation was optimized for FeCl2/NaBAr(F)4, affording good yields at catalyst loadings as low as 0.5 mol %. The procedure is exceedingly straightforward and comes close to typical Friedel-Crafts methods, where no added base is needed to absorb the released protons.

Anatomy of gold catalysts: facts and myths

This review article covers the main types of gold(i) complexes used as precatalysts under homogeneous conditions in organic synthesis and discusses the different ways of catalyst activation as well as ligand, silver, and anion effects.

The use of the sterically demanding IPr* and related ligands in catalysis

This account highlights the synthesis and applications of one of the very bulky NHC ligands, IPr* (1,3-bis(2,6-bis(diphenylmethyl)-4-methylphenyl)imidazo-2-ylidene). This ligand and some of its derivatives have been found very effective in several catalytic applications and have enabled the isolation of highly reactive organometallic complexes. More specifically, applications of this ligand in Pd and Ni chemistry have permitted challenging transformations under mild reaction conditions and low catalyst loadings. We report the successes as well as the limitations encountered using transition-metal systems bearing this ligand-type. This report will hopefully serve as a guide to synthetic chemists, providing insights as to when the very sterically demanding IPr* ligand (and its congeners) and in a broader context, very bulky NHC ligands, should be used.

Expanded-ring N-heterocyclic carbenes for the stabilization of highly electrophilic gold(I) cations

Strategies for the synthesis of highly electrophilic Au(I) complexes from either hydride- or chloride-containing precursors have been investigated by employing sterically encumbered Dipp-substituted expanded-ring NHCs (Dipp=2,6-iPr2 C6 H3 ). Thus, complexes of the type (NHC)AuH have been synthesised (for NHC=6-Dipp or 7-Dipp) and shown to feature significantly more electron-rich hydrides than those based on ancillary imidazolylidene donors. This finding is consistent with the stronger σ-donor character of these NHCs, and allows for protonation of the hydride ligand. Such chemistry leads to the loss of dihydrogen and to the trapping of the [(NHC)Au](+) fragment within a dinuclear gold cation containing a bridging hydride. Activation of the hydride ligand in (NHC)AuH by B(C6 F5 )3 , by contrast, generates a species (at low temperatures) featuring a [HB(C6 F5 )3 ](-) fragment with spectroscopic signatures similar to the "free" borate anion. Subsequent rearrangement involves BC bond cleavage and aryl transfer to the carbophilic metal centre. Under halide abstraction conditions utilizing Na[BAr(f) 4 ] (Ar(f) =C6 H3 (CF3 )2 -3,5), systems of the type [(NHC)AuCl] (NHC=6-Dipp or 7-Dipp) generate dinuclear complexes [{(NHC)Au}2 (μ-Cl)](+) that are still electrophilic enough at gold to induce aryl abstraction from the [BAr(f) 4 ](-) counterion.

Uranium(IV) halide (F-, Cl-, Br-, and I-) monoarene complexes

The syntheses of four nearly isostructural uranium(IV) monoarene complexes, supported by the arene anchored tris(aryloxide) chelate, [((Ad,Me)ArO)3mes](3-), are reported. Oxidation of the uranium(III) precursor [(((Ad,Me)ArO)3mes)U], 1, in the presence of tetrahydrofuran (THF) results in THF coordination and distortion of the equatorial coordination sphere to afford the uranium(IV) η(6)-arene complexes, [(((Ad,Me)ArO)3mes)U(X)(THF)], 2-X-THF, (where X = F, Cl, Br, or I) as their THF adducts. The solvate-free trigonally ligated [(((Ad,Me)ArO)3mes)U(F)], 2-F, was prepared and isolated in the absence of coordinating solvents for comparison.

Silver-free two-component approach in gold catalysis: activation of [LAuCl] complexes with derivatives of copper, zinc, indium, bismuth, and other Lewis acids

Complexes of type [LAuCl] (L = phosphine, phosphite, NHC and others) are widely employed in homogeneous catalysis, however, they are usually inactive as such and must be used jointly with a halide scavenger. To date, this role has mostly been entrusted to silver salts (AgSbF6 , AgPF6, AgBF4, AgOTf, etc.). However, silver salts can be the source of deactivation processes or side reactions, so it is sometimes advisable to use silver-free cationic gold complexes, which can be difficult to synthesize and to handle compared with the more robust chloride. We show in this study that various Lewis acids of the transition and main group metal families are expedient substitutes to silver salts. We have tested Cu(I), Cu(II), Zn(II), In(III), Si(IV), Bi(III), and other salts in a variety of typical Au(I)-catalyzed transformations, and the results have revealed that [LAuCl] can form active species in their presence.

Dissecting Anion Effects in Gold(I)-Catalyzed Intermolecular Cycloadditions

From a series of gold complexes of the type [t-BuXPhosAu(MeCN)]X (X=anion), the best results in intermolecular gold(I)-catalyzed reactions are obtained with the complex with the bulky and soft anion BAr4F- [BAr4F-=3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)phenylborate] improving the original protocols by 10-30% yield. A kinetic study on the [2+2] cycloaddition reaction of alkynes with alkenes is consistent with an scenario in which the rate-determining step is the ligand exchange to generate the (η2-phenylacetylene)gold(I) complex. We have studied in detail the subtle differences that can be attributed to the anion in this formation, which result in a substantial decrease in the formation of unproductive σ,π-(alkyne)digold(I) complexes by destabilizing the conjugated acid formed.

Gold-catalyzed oxidative coupling of arylsilanes and arenes: origin of selectivity and improved precatalyst

The mechanism of gold-catalyzed coupling of arenes with aryltrimethylsilanes has been investigated, employing an improved precatalyst (thtAuBr3) to facilitate kinetic analysis. In combination with linear free-energy relationships, kinetic isotope effects, and stoichiometric experiments, the data support a mechanism involving an Au(I)/Au(III) redox cycle in which sequential electrophilic aromatic substitution of the arylsilane and the arene by Au(III) precedes product-forming reductive elimination and subsequent cycle-closing reoxidation of the metal. Despite the fundamental mechanistic similarities between the two auration events, high selectivity is observed for heterocoupling (C-Si then C-H auration) over homocoupling of either the arylsilane or the arene (C-Si then C-Si, or C-H then C-H auration); this chemoselectivity originates from differences in the product-determining elementary steps of each electrophilic substitution. The turnover-limiting step of the reaction involves associative substitution en route to an arene π-complex. The ramifications of this insight for implementation of the methodology are discussed.

On the silver effect and the formation of chloride-bridged digold complexes

Abstraction of chloride anion from Au(I) complexes such as JohnPhosAuCl in noncoordinating solvents with 1 equiv of a silver salt, or even larger amounts, leads to the formation of chloride-bridged dinuclear gold(I) complexes, irrespective of the counteranion, which are substantially less reactive as catalysts. This incomplete removal of chloride ligand could lead to false negative results when using the in situ generation of the gold(I) active species by silver-promoted chloride abstraction.

Addition of H2 to [Rh((i)Bu2PCH2CH2P(i)Bu2)(NBD)][BAr(Cl)4] (NBD = norbornadiene, Ar(Cl) = 3,5-Cl2C6H3) in the solid-state results in the rapid formation of zwitterionic [Rh((i)Bu2PCH2CH2P(i)Bu2){(η(6)-C6H3Cl2)BAr(Cl)3}] by a gas/solid reaction. This undergoes slow C-Cl bond cleavage in the solid-state to ultimately afford the dimeric Rh(III) complex [RhCl((i)Bu2PCH2CH2P(i)Bu2){C6H3Cl(BAr(Cl)3)}]2. This reactivity is mirrored in solution (CH2Cl2). Kinetic data for the C-Cl activation in both the solid-state and solution are reported.
