Abstract
The hydrolysis of imidazolinium chlorides takes place readily in a basic water/dichloromethane biphasic mixture at room temperature. Experimental parameters were optimized to afford full conversions and high yields of γ-aminoformamides starting from twelve symmetrical substrates with alkyl or aryl substituents on their nitrogen atoms, and five unsymmetrical 1-alkyl-3-arylimidazolinium chlorides. NMR and XRD analyses showed that the cleavage of unsymmetrical salts led to γ-alkylamino-N-arylformamides with a high regioselectivity and that bulky alkyl or aryl groups on the formamide moiety led to the isolation of the (E)-isomer in high stereoisomeric purity (>95 %), whereas smaller and more flexible alkyl substituents afforded mixtures of (E)- and (Z)-rotamers. Control experiments showed that the hydrolysis of 1,3-dimesitylimidazolinium chloride (SIMes ⋅ HCl) did not occur readily in pure or acidic water and that the presence of bulky aromatic substituents on the nitrogen atoms of 1,3-bis(2,6-diisopropylphenyl)imidazolinium chloride (SIDip ⋅ HCl) efficiently slowed down its hydrolysis under basic aqueous conditions. Most strikingly, this work highlighted the critical influence of the counteranion on the reactivity of imidazolinium cations. Indeed, the chloride salts underwent a facile hydrolysis in the presence of water and Na2 CO3 , whereas various other NHC ⋅ HX derivatives reacted much slower or remained essentially inert under these conditions.

Abstract
In this paper, Grubbs- and Hoveyda–Grubbs-type olefin metathesis catalysts featuring N-cyclopentyl/N’-mesityl backbone-substituted N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) ligands were synthesized. Their propensity to promote the alternating ring-opening metathesis copolymerization (ROMP) of norbornene (NBE) with cyclooctene (COE) or cyclopentene (CPE) was evaluated and compared to that shown by analogous N-cyclohexyl complexes. High degrees of chemoselectivity were achieved in both copolymerizations. The presence of the N-cyclopentyl substituent allowed for the achievement of up to 98% and 97% of alternating diads for NBE-COE and NBE-CPE copolymers, respectively, at low comonomer ratios. Density functional theory (DFT) studies showed that both the sterical and electronic effects of NHC ligands influence catalyst selectivity.

Abstract
Nitrogen-containing heterocycles constitute an important division of organic chemistry. The structural and functional diversity in nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compounds emanates from the presence and nature of the heteroatom that optimizes the compound for a specific application. Nitrogen heterocycles have been found to mimic various endogenous metabolites and natural products, highlighting their pivotal role in current drug design. Their applications are manifold and are predominantly used as pharmaceuticals, corrosion inhibitors, polymers, agrochemicals, dyes, developers, etc. Additionally, their catalytic behavior has rendered these compounds notable precursors in synthesizing various important organic compounds. The rate at which nitrogen heterocycles are synthesized explains this organic chemistry domain's vitality and usefulness. The present review article focuses on nitrogen-containing heterocycles as a versatile scaffold for current applications of organic chemistry.

Abstract
This review describes a distinct class of ruthenium olefin metathesis catalysts featuring unsymmetrical N-heterocyclic carbene (uNHC) ligands, from its historical beginning to the present state of the art. Thanks to advantageous traits, such as pronounced thermodynamic stability, chemical latency, outstanding selectivity, and compatibility with green solvents, these catalysts led to good results in a number of specialized metathesis transformations. Therefore, while being a niche, the uNHC complexes can potentially be implemented in a number of industrial processes, such as valorization of Fischer-Tropsch olefin fractions, ethenolysis of renewable products, and modern pharmaceutical production.

Abstract
A set of nitro-activated ruthenium-based Hoveyda-Grubbs type olefin metathesis catalysts bearing sterically modified N-hetero-cyclic carbene (NHC) ligands have been obtained, characterised and studied in a set of model metathesis reactions. It was found that catalysts bearing standard SIMes and SIPr ligands (4a and 4b) gave the best results in metathesis of substrates with more accessible C-C double bonds. At the same time, catalysts bearing engineered naphthyl-substituted NHC ligands (4d-e) exhibited high activity towards formation of tetrasubstituted C-C double bonds, the reaction which was traditionally Achilles' heel of the nitro-activated Hoveyda-Grubbs catalyst.

(±)-trans-1,2-Cyclohexanediamine-Based Bis(NHC) Ligand for Cu-Catalyzed Asymmetric Conjugate Addition Reaction. Catalysts 2019. Abstract
Bis(NHC) ligand precursors, L1, based on trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane were designed and synthesized. To introduce chirality at the hydroxyamide side arm on the NHC of L1, a chiral β-amino alcohol, such as enantiopure leucinol, was used. Cu-catalyzed asymmetric conjugate addition reactions of cyclic and acyclic enones with Et2Zn were selected to evaluate the performance of L1 as a chiral ligand. For the reaction of cyclic enone, a combination of [bis(trimethylsilyl)acetylene]-(hexafluoroacetylacetonato)copper(I) (Cu(hfacac)(btmsa)) with a (±)-trans-1,2-cyclohexanediamine-based bis(NHC) ligand precursor, (rac; S,S)-L1, which was prepared from (S)-leucinol, was the most effective. Thus, treating 2-cyclohexen-1-one (3) with Et2Zn in the presence of catalytic amounts of Cu(hfacac)(btmsa) and (rac; S,S)-L1 afforded (R)-3-ethylcyclohexanone ((R)-4) with 97% ee. Similarly, use of (rac; R,R)-L1, which was prepared from (R)-leucinol, produced (S)-4 with 97% ee. Conversely, for the asymmetric 1,4-addition reaction of the acyclic enone, optically pure (−)-trans-1,2-cyclohexanediamine-based bis(NHC) ligand precursor, (R,R; S,S)-L1, worked efficiently. For example, 3-nonen-2-one (5) was reacted with Et2Zn using the CuOAc/(R,R; S,S)-L1 catalytic system to afford (R)-4-ethylnonan-2-one ((R)-6) with 90% ee. Furthermore, initially changing the counterion of the Cu precatalyst between an OAc and a ClO4 ligand on the metal reversed the facial selectivity of the approach of the substrates. Thus, the conjugate addition reaction of 5 with Et2Zn using the Cu(ClO4)2/(R,R; S,S)-L1 catalytic system, afforded (S)-6 with 75% ee.

Abstract
Two simple unsymmetrical monometallic Ir(i) complexes with an N-heterocyclic carbene ligand and an analogous bimetallic Ir(i) complex were synthesised. These complexes were found to be extremely active catalysts for a range of C-X (X = N or O) and Si-N bond forming reactions involving alkyne and imine activation for dihydroalkoxylation, hydroamination and hydrosilylation reactions. These catalysts exhibited reaction rates far exceeding those of other Rh(i) and Ir(i) complexes previously reported. In addition, a small change to the ligand design (phenyl vs. mesityl) substantially affected both the reactivity and product selectivity of the catalyst. The Ir(i) complex bearing a mesitylene wingtip provided unprecedented regioselectivity in the dihydroalkoxylation reaction and a new kinetic product from the typical hydrosilylation protocol of 2-benyzlpyrroline to produce an N-silylaminoalkene. Our mechanistic studies indicated that this transformation proceeded via a dehydrogenative coupling mechanism.

Abstract
An overview on the catalytic properties of ruthenium complexes for olefin metathesis bearing monodentate unsymmetrical N-heterocyclic diaminocarbene ligands is provided. The non-symmetric nature of these NHC architectures strongly influences activity and selectivity of the resulting catalysts. The main achievements that have been accomplished in significant areas of olefin metathesis up to the current state of research are discussed.

Abstract
An abnormal N-heterocyclic carbene (aNHC) based homogeneous catalyst has been used for the reduction of carbon dioxide to methoxyborane in the presence of a range of hydroboranes under ambient conditions and resulted in the highest turnover number of 6000. A catalytically active reaction intermediate, [aNHC-H⋅9BBN(OCOH)2 ] was structurally characterized and authenticated by NMR spectroscopy. A detailed mechanistic cycle of this catalytic process via borondiformate formation has been proposed from tandem experimental and computational experiments.
