Abstract
A series of group 4 bis(isopropoxide) complexes M[N^O]2(OiPr)2, stabilized by guanidine-phenolate N^O ligands, have been prepared and used as catalysts for the polymerization of unpurified rac-lactide under solvent-free conditions at 130 °C. The resulting polylactic acid (PLA) presented heterotactic bias (P r = 0.56-0.62) with molecular weights similar to those obtained in control experiments with Zr(OiPr)4·iPrOH, Ti(OiPr)4, and Sn(Oct)2. The molecular weights were lower than expected for living polymerization due to chain transfer and/or transesterification. Zr complexes were more active than the Ti homologues, with rate constants ranging from 1.17-3.21 × 10-4 s-1, comparable to that observed with the free guanidine-phenol ligands. The corresponding bis(guanidine-phenolate) titanium dichloride complexes Ti[N^O]2Cl2 were also prepared and tested in ethylene polymerization. The low activity (up to 1.1 kgPE mol-1 h-1) was associated to the strong electron-donating ability of the guanidine moiety and to the trans-N,N-cis-O,O-cis-Cl,Cl coordination mode of the guanidine-phenolate ligand.

Abstract
This study reports the first structural elucidation of β-diketiminate anions (BDI-), known for strong coordination, in their unbound form within caesium complexes. β-Diketiminate caesium salts (BDICs) were synthesised, and upon the addition of Lewis donor ligands, free BDI- anions and donor-solvated Cs+ cations were observed. Notably, the liberated BDI- anions exhibited an unprecedented dynamic cisoid-transoid exchange in solution.

Abstract
A new class of zirconium and hafnium complexes coordinated by linear dianonic tetradentate NSSN ligands is reported. The ligands feature two amide functions coupled with two thioether groups linked by a central flexible ethane bridge and two lateral rigid phenylene bridges and differ for the substituents on the aniline nitrogen atoms, i.e., isopropyl, cyclohexyl, or mesityl substituents: NSSN-iPr, NSSN-Cy, or NSSN-Mes. They were prepared by reacting 2-aminothiophenol with dibromoethane to afford the NSSN ligands without substituents on the aniline nitrogen atoms, which were subsequently alkylated through a reductive amination of acetone or cyclohexanone or palladium-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction with mesityl bromide. The corresponding zirconium and hafnium complexes 1-5 were obtained through a transamination reaction between the neutral ligands and Zr(NMe2)4 or Hf(NMe2)4 [(NSSN-iPr)Zr(NMe2)2 (1), (NSSN-Cy)Zr(NMe2)2 (2), (NSSN-Mes)Zr(NMe2)2 (3), (NSSN-iPr)Hf(NMe2)2 (4), and (NSSN-Cy)Hf(NMe2)2 (5)]. They were characterized in solution by NMR spectroscopy and in solid state by X-ray diffraction analysis (except for 3). All complexes present an octahedral coordination geometry with a fac-fac ligand wrapping and a cis relationship between the other two monodentate ligands. The catalytic performances of 1-5 in the ring-opening polymerization of cyclic esters were investigated. Complex 1 was the most active: its polymerization activity was superior to those generally displayed by zirconium complexes featuring OSSO ligands and compared well with those of the most active group 4 complexes operating in a toluene solution.

Abstract
Dinuclear heteroleptic alkaline-earth-metal complexes are interesting synthetic targets because the close proximity of two metals allows for cooperative effects. However, these complexes are also prone to undergoing Schlenk-type rearrangements, affording less-active homoleptic complexes. Here we present the metalation of bis(β-diketimine) ligands possessing flexible bridging groups, i.e., 1,2-ethylene, 1,3-propylene, and trans-1,2-cyclohexylene, using calcium and magnesium precursors. Four mononuclear homoleptic calcium complexes were obtained, highlighting the pronounced tendency of calcium to undergo Schlenk-like redistributions. In the case of magnesium, however, the bridging group plays a crucial role, yielding seven dinuclear heteroleptic complexes but also one mononuclear and one dinuclear homoleptic complexes. In addition, a trinuclear mixed heteroleptic-homoleptic magnesium complex, which is a rare example of an intermediate of the Schlenk equilibrium, was isolated.

Abstract
The synthesis of two different types of bis(N,N',N'-substituted 1,2-ethanediamine)s, bridged either through the secondary (type 1) or tertiary (type 2) amine groups is reported. Selected protio-ligands have been applied in subsequent metallation reactions using aluminium, magnesium, tin, and zinc sources allowing to isolate five mononuclear and eight dinuclear complexes. All complexes have been fully characterized and their solid-state structures have been studied by means of single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. Nine of the 13 complexes carry reactive alkyl, amide or hydride groups, which indicates their potential as catalysts or supports for (transition) metals.

Abstract
A library of ten dinucleating bis(amidine) and bis(guanidine) ligands, in which the bridging groups, terminal rests, and backbone substituents were systematically altered, has been synthesized and subsequently applied in metallation reactions using three different magnesium sources. Eight Mg complexes could be isolated and fully characterized, and in seven cases their solid-state structure could be determined by means of single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The results evidence a versatile coordination behaviour, which ranges from the first dinuclear heteroleptic magnesium iodide complex to dinuclear homoleptic complexes. These findings indicate the crucial impact of both the ligand and the magnesium source not only on the accessibility of well-defined dinuclear complexes but also on the aggregation in solution and in the solid state.

Abstract
Polytopic ligands have become ubiquitous in coordination chemistry because they grant access to a variety of mono- and polynuclear complexes of transition metals as well as rare-earth and main-group elements. Nitrogen-based ditopic ligands, in which two monoanionic N,N-binding sites are framed within one molecule, are of particular importance and are therefore the primary focus of this review. In detail, bis(amidine)s, bis(guanidine)s, bis(β-diimine)s, bis(aminotroponimine)s, bis(pyrrolimine)s, and miscellaneous bis(N,N-chelating) ligands are reviewed. In addition to the general synthetic protocols, the application of these ligands is discussed along with their coordination chemistry, the multifarious binding modes, and the ability of these ligands to bridge two (or more) metal(loids).

Abstract
A series of well-defined group 4 permethylindenyl complexes have been prepared and fully characterised by NMR spectroscopy and X-ray crystallography. Me2SB(Cp,I*)ZrCl2 ({(η5-C9Me6)Me2Si(η5-C5H4)}ZrCl2; 1), Me2SB(CpMe,I*)ZrCl2 ({(η5-C9Me6)Me2Si(η5-C5H3Me)}ZrCl2; 2), Me2SB(Cp,I*)HfCl2 (3) and Z-Me2SB(Cp,I*)ZrCl(O-2,6-Me-C6H3) (4) were investigated as initiators for the ring-opening polymerisation (ROP) of l-, d- and rac-lactide monomers in the presence of benzyl alcohol. 1-4 displayed second order dependence on monomer concentration and produced isotactic and heterotactic (Pr = 0.81) polylactides for the polymerisation of l-, d- and rac-lactide respectively. The effects of temperature, catalyst concentration, co-initiator concentration, solvent and scale were studied. At 80 °C, with two equivalents of benzyl alcohol, 4 was the most active initiator for the ROP of l-, d- and rac-lactide (kobs = 6.39, 6.38 and 5.89 M-1 h-1 respectively). The polylactides were characterised by NMR spectroscopy, GPC and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry.

Abstract
The synthesis of titanium(IV), zirconium(IV) and hafnium(IV) complexes of Trost's semi-crown ligand is described. All complexes were fully characterized by 1H and 13C NMR and mass spectroscopy. The molecular structures of the representative complexes 2, 3 and 4 were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The X-ray diffraction studies reveal that complexes 2, 3 and 4 crystallized in an orthorhombic crystal system. Complexes 2 and 3 have a monomeric structure in the solid state with distorted octahedral geometry around the metal center, whereas complex 4 was found to crystallize in a trimeric structure bridging with an oxygen atom, where the geometry around the titanium is distorted trigonal bipyramidal. The activities and stereoselectivities of these complexes toward the ring-opening polymerization (ROP) of lactides (L-LA and rac-LA) and ε-caprolactone (CL) have been investigated. Complexes 1–4 were found to be efficient single-component initiators for the ring-opening polymerization of cyclic esters and yielded high molecular weight polymers (Mn) with narrow molecular weight distributions (MWD).The microstructure of the resultant polylactides (PLAs) from rac-LA was determined. Complexes 2 and 3 afforded isotactic-enriched PLA (Pm = 0.78–0.71) with narrow MWD (1.07–1.04), on the other hand complexes 1 and 4 produced atactic PLA. Kinetic and post polymerization studies confirm that the polymerization proceeds through the coordination–insertion mechanism.

Abstract
Diketimine ligands bearing N-benzyl, N-9-anthrylmethyl and N-mesitylmethyl substituents (nacnac(Bn)H, nacnac(An)H, and nacnac(Mes)H) were prepared from condensation of the amine with either acetyl acetone or its ethylene glycol monoketal. Chlorination with N-chlorosuccinimide in the 3-position yielded Clnacnac(Bn)H and Clnacnac(An)H. The ligands were reacted with Zn(TMSA)2 (TMSA = N(SiMe3)2) to yield nacnac(An)Zn(TMSA) and Clnacnac(Bn)Zn(TMSA). Protonation with isopropanol afforded nacnac(An)ZnOiPr and Clnacnac(Bn)ZnOiPr. Reaction of the diketimines with Mg(TMSA)2 afforded nacnac(An)Mg(TMSA), nacnac(Mes)Mg(TMSA), Clnacnac(Bn)Mg(TMSA) and Clnacnac(An)Mg(TMSA). Subsequent protonation with tert-butanol produced nacnac(Mes)MgOtBu and Clnacnac(Bn)MgOtBu, but only decomposition was observed with N-anthrylmethyl substituents. Most complexes were characterized by X-ray diffraction studies. TMSA complexes were monomeric and alkoxide complexes dimeric in the solid state. All alkoxide complexes, as well as nacnac(An)Mg(TMSA)/BnOH and Clnacnac(An)Mg(TMSA)/BnOH were moderately to highly active in rac-lactide polymerization (90% conversion in 30 s to 3 h). nacnac(An)ZnOiPr produced highly heterotactic polymers (P(r) = 0.90), Clnacnac(Bn)MgOtBu/BnOH produced slightly isotactic polymers at -30 °C (P(r) = 0.43), and all other catalysts produced atactic polymers with a slight heterotactic bias.
