Abstract
In the presence of Cu(OTf)2 (5 mol %) and KOtBu, a synergistic effect of the N-arylation process on 2-amino-3-arylquinolines is observed. Within 4 h, this method provides a wide variety of norneocryptolepine analogues with good to excellent yields. Overall, a double heteroannulation strategy for the synthesis of indoloquinoline alkaloids from nonheterocyclic precursors is demonstrated. Mechanistic investigations establish that the reaction proceeds via the SNAr pathway. Despite moderate yields, the one-pot, two-step double heteroannulation illustrates that this procedure is highly atom-efficient. Neocryptolepine, a natural product, is also synthesized from indoloquinoline. A brief study of the photophysical properties of selected norneocryptolepine analogues is also discussed.

Abstract
Various functionalised 4-amino-2-(methylthio)quinolines are synthesised through triflic acid-mediated N-heteroannulation of α-functionalized-β-anilino-β-(methylthio)acrylonitriles for the first time. The N-heteroannulation process is highly chemoselective and has mild reaction conditions. However, this process fails in the absence of the β-methylthio group in the acrylonitriles. In addition, a new double N-heteroannulation process is demonstrated to synthesise indolo[3,2-c]quinolines from non-heterocyclic precursors. Natural product isocryptolepine is synthesised in four steps from an acyclic precursor.

Abstract
A facile, metal-free method for the synthesis of substituted α-carbolines from secondary Morita-Baylis-Hillman (MBH) acetates of nitroalkenes is presented. The cascade reaction of MBH acetates with tosyliminoindolines occurs regioselectively to form various α-carbolines with a wide substrate scope. The reaction involves mild conditions, and the products are formed in high yields within a short reaction time. The amenability of the reaction to scale up and synthetic applications of the products have been demonstrated.

Abstract
An efficient approach to prepare trifluoromethyl-α-carbolines and ester group-substituted α-carbolines via the tandem cyclization reaction of 2-(2-aminophenyl)acetonitriles and trifluoromethyl 1,3-diones or β,γ-unsaturated α-ketoesters was reported. The transformation proceeded smoothly in the presence of catalytic environmental-benign iron salts, which are used to prepare the desired products in moderate to good yields.

Abstract
A silver/palladium relay catalyzed 1,3-dipole annulation/allylation reaction of iminoesters and Baylis-Hillman acetates for the construction of fully substituted allyl imidazolidines is reported. The reaction of both iminoesters and Baylis-Hillman acetates affords the fully substituted allyl imidazolidines in high yields and regioselectivities. The three component reaction is triggered by silver-catalyzed 1,3-dipole annulation, followed by the sequential palladium catalyzed allylation. Mechanistic studies reveal that the dual catalytic system plays a key role in the reaction. The developed methodology provides straightforward access to allyl imidazolidines under simple reaction conditions.

Abstract
A mild and efficient NBS promoted intramolecular oxidative cyclization/aromatization of β-tetralone oximes has been explored. Under the optimized conditions, fused α-carbolines containing pentacyclic rings were obtained in moderate to good yields. Furthermore, various benzo[5,6]chromeno[2,3-b]indoles were successfully synthesized in moderate yields from β-tetralones using slightly modified conditions. We proposed a possible reaction pathway based on the experimental results.

Abstract
The present review provides a comprehensive overview of the synthetic methods developed
recently for 6H-Indolo[2,3-b]quinoline. The review is classified into the following: 1) inheriting indole
skeleton and constructing quinoline ring; 2) inheriting quinoline skeleton and constructing indole ring,
and 3) convergent strategies constructing both rings simultaneously or step by step. This review
discusses the scope of multifunctional reactivity of indole and quinoline skeleton for constructing the
desired indoloquinolines as explored in various research strategies.

11-Substituted indolo[2,3-b]quinolines were obtained in reactions ofN-protected indol-3-yl-acetonitrile, -acetate, and -methylsulfone with nitrobenzene derivatives in presence of base and trialkylchlorosilanes.

Abstract
An effective and convenient method has been developed for the preparation of 2 or 2,4-substituted α-carbolines via a one-pot tandem reaction of α,β-unsaturated ketones with 2-nitrophenylacetonitrile in the presence of zinc dust, acetic acid and triethylamine. This protocol presents a simple, rapid and pot/step economical strategy for preparing biologically interesting α-carbolines with moderate anti-tumor activities.
